CHRISTIAN HOSPITALITY

Day in and day out, we are required to make judgment calls informed by tough, durable, serviceable Christian love. We do what we can do, and God takes notice. God is in charge of rewards, and a glass of water will do when that is what we have to offer with a glad and open heart. Paul gives us a clear theology for the missionary work we do whenever anybody is close at hand. He reminds us that our work, our ministry, is carried on in concert with Christ. We have been baptized into his death and life. In

any given moment both life and death are there, a kind of play of shadow and light. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell where shadow leaves off and light begins. God will take care of that, too. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Farewell From Fr. Rick My Dear Parish Family: It is very hard to write to you today. I wish we could all be together in our House of Prayer. Some of you know that I have been the Pastor of St. Pius X and Visitation Parishes for almost 12 years, and the Pastor of St. Raymond Parish for over five years. Hard to believe! I was hoping to be with all of you for many more years. But, the Bishop has asked me to take on a new assignment. I will be the new Pastor of Holy Family Parish in Latrobe, PA. My moving day is July 8, 2020. Words cannot express the many blessings I have had over the past years as your Pastor. Baptisms, First Communions, Weddings and Funerals were a way we truly were a community of faith. Our weekday and Sunday celebrations were a true faith family experience for me. Believe me, you helped me grow in my priesthood. My hope is that I, in some way, helped your journey closer to the Lord. Thank you for your support over these many years. Please continue to give of your time, talents and treasury to our Parishes. We are truly a vibrant Christian community. I will treasure our time together. Thank you for understanding my weaknesses. I am sorry if, in any way, I did not respond to your spiritual needs. Due to the limitations with large gatherings, we might not be able to personally say good-bye. If you are able, I have been told the parishes are planning outdoor receptions in the parking lots after 4:30 P.M. Mass at Visitation Church on June 27th and after the 10:30 A.M. Mass at St. Pius X Church on June 28th. I am hoping to see you before I leave. If not, my new address is below. I know we will see each other in the future as I am not that far away! Again, thank you for your prayers, love and support.

God Bless you all,

Fr Rick Pastor

Welcome to the parish family, Sophie Ann Rendine, daughter of Jared & Anne Whitaker Rendine, who received the Sacrament of Baptism on Sunday, June 21st at

St. Pius X Church. May God bless her.

It’s with great joy and sadness that Sal Juliano, the sacristan of St. Pius X Church, has decided to retire after almost 19 years with us. Sal’s kindness, heart warming smile, compassion and dedication

will be truly missed! He has been a blessing to St. Pius X Church and our entire parish community.

Happy Retirement, it’s well deserved!

Being a Welcoming Community We warmly welcome Kayla Heffernan into our faith community. Kayla celebrated her

sacraments of initiation on Monday afternoon, June 22. We would ordinarily welcome Kayla into our faith community by celebrating sacraments of initiation during weekend Mass. She wisely decided on a private celebration out of health cautions to protect her young family. We support Kayla as she chooses to follow Jesus in the Catholic way and pray that she be open to its God’s many graces as she continues her faith journey with us.

Praise be God for His Blessing upon Us Father Marc Dunmire was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Greensburg on Saturday, June 20. We praise God for Fr. Marc’s courage and generosity in responding to the call from God to devote his life to the service of the people of God, the Church of the Diocese of Greensburg. Father Marc will first serve as Parochial Vicar at St. Paul and St. Bruno Churches in Greensburg. By serving our brothers and sisters in these parishes, Father Marc serves us all. Thank you, Father Marc. May the Holy Spirit bless you in the days ahead in many surprising ways.

Pathways, a Great Local Opportunity Let your faith “seek understanding” about what it means to be a Catholic disciple of Jesus Christ who is called and gifted by God for others. Pathways for 2020-2021 is offered at St. John the Baptist Church, Scottdale. Brochures are available in the back of church. Nothing could be more convenient! Can’t afford it? Do not fret; application can be made to the Francis Fund of the Diocese of Greensburg. Do not let this opportunity pass you by. Contact Sister Edie or the Diocese directly.

Celebrating Creation This Is the 5th anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ On Care for Our Common Home. Pope Frances has given us guidelines for a year of increased efforts to curb climate change, and thus respond to “the cry of the earth…and the cry of the poor.” Our Creation Care Team will be working with those guidelines. If you are interested in joining the Creation Care Team, please contact Sister Edie at the parish office.

June Prayer Intention from Bishop Edward C. Malesic For high school and college graduates. That as they enter a world drastically altered by COVID-19, give them the strength and courage to persevere in faith as they begin the next phase of their lives confronted by new, unexpected challenges.

Online Parish Offertory With the streaming of Sunday Masses on the Diocesan website, they have added an Online Parish Offertory tab to the bottom border of the home page (www.dioceseofgreensburg.org). If you click on the tab, it will take you to a form to complete that will allow you to set-up a one-time or recurring offertory gift. Please take advantage of this safe and secure method if this is an option you would like to use. During our time away from masses at our churches, 22 parishioners from St. Pius X and 18 parishioners of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary have done so; many of them recurring offertory contributions. Also, we are grateful to those givers who have mailed to or dropped off at the Parish Office their envelopes on a weekly or monthly basis. You can continue to mail them to your Parish name, 740 W. Walnut St, Mount Pleasant, PA 15666. Although the contributions have been down somewhat during this time, it has helped to support the payment of expenses of the parishes. If you have been holding your envelopes during this time, please bring them to mass and drop them in the basket when you are able to return. Please feel free to call the Parish Office at 724-547-1911 with any questions.

Guidelines for recommencing in-person worship

For the foreseeable future, all people will remain dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays. Those who feel vulnerable because of their age or health are encouraged to stay home, while those who are sick should not attend public worship. Streaming Masses will continue. Here are some additional guidelines: All people must wear a mask and must be

seated at least in every other pew to ensure adherence to social distancing guidelines of six feet, which equates to approximately 25% capacity inside the church. Members of the same household, however may sit

together. All communicants will be encouraged to receive the Sacred Host in the hand. The chalice of the Precious Blood will not be offered. The Sign of Peace, at this time, will not include a handshake, instead we will turn to the person next to us and offer a reverential bow.

St. Pius X Church will be open from 8am until 12noon,

Monday through Friday, for private prayer.
