Jesus summoned the Twelve and began
to send them out two by two and gave them
Authority over unclean spirits. He said to them,
"Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you
leave. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen
to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet
in testimony against them."

RCIA
God bless all of you this sum-mer with joy, peace and reju-venation during your vaca-tions!
The RCIA program is on hiatus during the summer, but we still have 4 partici-pants who are preparing for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Please keep each of them in your prayers as they con-tinue their journey to become members of the Catholic Church and our St. Pio family! During this time, it is a great opportuni-ty to pray for and encourage your family, friends, work friends and those you meet who are looking for something more in their lives, to think about turning their lives over to God. When you are happy and at peace in your lives, it shows to other people and they may ask you why you are so happy. All you need to do is share with them how knowing and lov-ing Jesus Christ and following his Good News has transformed your lives. Ask them if they would like to know more about the Catholic Church and become renewed in their lives. We have had many faithful people par-ticipate in the RCIA process since St. Pio came into being 4 years ago. The trans-formations in their lives have been so wonderful to watch and to be a part of. Our team is very grateful to have the opportunity to help these people in their spiritual lives and lead them to the Cath-olic Church. We need the help of each of you to con-tinue this ministry in our St. Pio family. Please pray for those you know who are looking for a new purpose in their lives. Encourage them to come and find out what the RCIA process is all about. They can call the office at (586) 777-9116 and talk to Janice Paz at ext. 5. She will lead them and give them the information they need to begin their journey. Our new sessions will start the week after Labor Day in September. We meet on Sundays between the 9:00 and 11:00 am liturgies. We are excited to meet those who are interested in learning more about the Church and transform-ing their lives, through Jesus Christ.
Blessings, Ellen Olivier RCIA Coordinator

21 Days to Good Habits
At a retreat I was at back in April we learned that it takes 21 days, basically 3 weeks, for
a true habit to be formed by doing some-thing specific every day. We learned that making a spiritual practice for ourselves could assist us in forming healthy habits. We were encouraged to make a list of seven things that we wanted to do each day to improve something in our lives. Here are some examples that can be used 1. Spend time outside every day, experi-encing something God created in nature. Give thanks for these gifts. 2. Stop dur-ing your day and take three deep breathes, be aware of breathing in and then letting your breath go. Feel the re-lease. 3. Take an inventory of your day and count your blessings. Make note of things you experienced and sensations you felt. 4. Let other people’s words in-spire you. Find a prayer or reflection and let those words guide you through your day. 5. Connect with someone who is important to you through a phone call, text, or pay them a visit. 6. Don’t watch the evening news; instead pay attention to the world around by using your sens-es of sight, smell, sounds and taste. Praise God for the gift of your senses. 7. Give yourself totally to your work day. Don’t complain, daydream or wish away your day. Give thanks for the gift of work. Do you see this as something you could do in 21 days? Even taking one thing and carrying it through for three weeks can be the foundation to healthier habits. Give thanks to God for the chance to create a new you.

Music Notes
Greetings, This week, I thought I would share the biography of Sr. Su-zanne Toolan. She is the compos-
er of I Am the Bread of Life. I hope you enjoy her story. Suzanne Toolan, RSM On the first Friday of every month, Taizé evening prayer around the cross is cele-brated in the chapel at Mercy Center, a retreat facility in Burlingame, California. The event attracts hundreds every month who gather to sing the music of Taizé, to hear God's word, and to reflect in the at-mosphere of candlelight. the director of this prayer experience is Sister Suzanne Toolan, RSM. most of us know her as the composer of "I Am the Bread of Life." Born in Lansing, Michigan, Sister Suzanne moved to Hollywood at age seventeen. It was in Hollywood she became a student of Richard Keys Biggs. After her profession as a Sister of Mercy, she earned a masters degree in humanities and then began her teaching career. In addition to her academ-ic duties, she has directed choirs for high schools, colleges, parish, and seminaries. A while back, she constructed some sketches for a eucharistic piece to be used at an upcoming archdiocesan event. Disap-pointed with the results, she tore up the manuscript and threw it into the waste can. Leaving the room, she encountered a freshman student who asked what she was playing. The student thought it was beau-tiful. Sister Suzanne rescued the shred and reworked it. The item was "I Am the Bread of Life," and it has certainly enjoyed a life of its own. It appears now in more hymnals and collections than any other title in the GIA catalog and has been translated into a least ten other languages. Sister Suzanne is known to many as a quiet woman of gentle manner who values pray-er in all the dimensions of her life. Her book entitled Canticles and Gathering Prayers (Winona, Minnesota: St. Mary's Press), is a composite of services and canti-cles written for groups gathered in prayer. Her compositional skills have enriched the prayer life of thousands of Catholics who have made their way to her workshops or who have sung her music. For those Catho-lics, and for all people who have enjoyed her work and who are able to pray better, a large thank you to Sister Suzanne, as well as that freshman student who encouraged her to root through her trash can. What a loss that would have been. What a treasure it is.

St. Pio Intercessory Prayer Ministry
Come join us after Mass in the church and experience the
Holy Spirit at work with our newest ministry! Prayer teams are available after all weekend Masses. Intercessory prayer is a prayer that pleads with God for your needs and the needs of others. Often the problems we face seem too big for us. No matter how much we try, we cannot solve them on our own. It's times like these when we need to turn to the Lord in intercessory prayers.
