Note from Mrs Mathews This week we lit the first candle of Advent, the purple candle of Hope symbolizing the expectation and hope surrounding Jesus' birth. Eleven months in to a global pandemic, there couldn’t possibly be a more timely occasion to focus on hope. December really is a magical month in a primary school, and I wish everyone could experience it! On Thursday I discovered some shepherds following a star across the playground and couldn't resist the temptation to watch the dress rehearsal for the Form I and II Nativity. Forms III to VI have been busy rehearsing with Mr Whitfield and Miss Reis - I have seen Father Christmas, Rudolph, and twelve drummers trying to put Mrs Freight off her work, but as yet, I haven’t managed to find out what they are up to! Not much longer to wait though as we have plans to stream all performances to parents. The dates and times of each performance will be announced via ClassDojo over the next few days. Recordings will also be available as a permanent reminder of this very different Christmas at St Philomena’s. I am looking forward to Christmas Enrichment Day on Friday and have my Christmas jumper ready. The children will be off timetable completing Christmas activities and challenges and we are joining schools across the country to take part in the National Santa Dash. Bring on the Christmas fun!

FORM IV ASSEMBLY Thank you to Form IV for such an entertaining assembly about Henry VIII. They spoke beautifully and performed
with confidence.
Each week the class teachers nominate one or two pupils from their class. Pupils can be nominated for a variety of reasons such as showing care, courtesy and consideration to others, for trying their very best in a subject they find particularly challenging, for an excellent attitude to learning, for exemplary manners. We hope to value the whole child with this award, not just the academic achievements.
Reception Mollie Sharpe For great performance skills during the filming of our Nativity.
Form I Wren Wright For taking a more careful approach to her learning. Her reading and writing are improving as a result. Well done.
Form II James Cleverly For learning his lines for the Nativity off by heart! Well done.
Form III Luca Wright For having an excellent attitude towards learning his times tables and corresponding division facts.
Form IV Zach Riseborough For being very helpful.
Harry Dellow For making great progress in his work on fractions.
Form V Scarlet Ellis Excellent work with translation, reflecting shapes and interpreting graphs.
Form VI Lucy Glading For well-structured and detailed biographical writing.
