Prayer Before Mass Accept, O most Holy Trinity, this Holy Sacrifice of the Mass enacted once by the Divine Word, which is now renewed on this altar through the hands of your priest. We unite ourselves to the intentions of Jesus Christ, Priest and Victim, that we may be consumed for Your glory and for the salvation of all people. We intend through Jesus Christ, with Jesus Christ, in Jesus Christ, to adore Your eternal Majesty, to thank Your immense goodness, to satisfy Your offended justice, and to beg for Your mercy for the Church, for our dear ones, and for ourselves here present. Amen. Introductory Rites

FirstReading:IS60:1-6Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. See, darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the LORD shines, and over you appears his glory. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance. Raise your eyes and look about; they all gather and come to you: your sons come from afar, and your daughters in the arms of their nurses.

Then you shall be radiant at what you see, your heart shall throb and overflow, for the riches of the sea shall be emptied out before you, the wealth of nations shall be brought to you. Caravans of camels shall fill you, dromedaries from Midian and Ephah; all from Sheba shall come bearing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises of the LORD. TheWordoftheLordThanksbetoGod.

Gloria:Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise You, we bless You, we adore You, we glorify You, we give You thanks, for Your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. [R].Lord,everynationonearthwilladoreyou. O God, with your judgment endow the king, and with your justice, the king's son; He shall govern your people with justice and your afflicted ones with judgment. [R]. Justice shall flower in his days, and profound peace, till the moon be no more. May he rule from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. SecondReading:EPH3:2-3a,5-6Brothers and sisters: You have heard of the stewardship of God's grace that was given to me for your benefit, namely, that the mystery was made known to me by revelation. It was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit: that the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel . All:Alleluia,Alleluia,AlleluiaGospel:MT2:1-12 Jesus When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage." When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, He inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet: Andyou,Bethlehem, landofJudah, arebynomeansleastamongtherulersofJudah;sincefromyoushallcomearuler, whoistoshepherdmypeopleIsrael." Then Herod called the magi secretly and ascertained from them the time of the star's appearance. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage." After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way ’” TheGospeloftheLordPraisetoYouLordJesusChrist

Liturgy of the Eucharist

Profession of Faith TheNiceneCreedI believe in one God, the Father almighty, mak-er of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, True God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven, (Bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the for-giveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Universal Prayer: (Prayer of the Faithful)

APrayerforProtectioninTimeofPandemic

O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O loving Mother, you know what we need and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of the Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our suffering and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen. Underthyprotectionweseekrefuge,OHolyMotherofGod.Inourneeds,despisenotourpetitionbutdeliverusalwaysfromalldangers.OgloriousandblessedVirgin,Amen.

THE HOLY STAR O Father, may that holy star Grow every year more bright And send its glorious beams afar To fill the world with light.—William Cullen Bryant

GENTLENESS Feelings are everywhere—be gentle.

T. S. Elliot observed that the journey of the Magi (wise men) took place at the worst time of the year, from the East to Bethlehem. Even today, at this time of year, the weather, and the services along the routes may not be at their best; the movement of livestock/vehicles may be difficult because of the snow, busi-nesses may be closed when needed most, and ac-commodations may be scarce or expensive. Howev-er, just like the modern astrologers or astronomers, the Magi took time to prepare to travel to far places against all odds. Astrologers are always close to na-ture, and therefore, they may see supernatural things better than others (The Book of Jesus, Calvin Miller, p.133). The Feast of the Epiphany is a declaration or mani-festation of Jesus Christ to the gentiles represented by the three wise men: Caspar, Melchior, and Bal-thasar. They acknowledged a spectacular power in a Bethlehem baby, (Jesus Christ). The newborn king attracted the noble men to pay homage to him, and present their gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The gold symbolizes the kingship of Jesus, who leads his people through justice and peace. Frankincense sym-bolizes the priesthood of Jesus as the celebrant of the offertory and the sacrificial lamb. A worthy sacrifice to reconcile humanity with God. The myrrh symbolizes the horrible death Jesus had to undergo to seal his mission of saving humanity through humble obedi-ence. The traditions of marking door posts with their initials: C+M+B 2021 (Caspar, Melchior, Balthasar)

followed by the year unfolding, is for Catholics to re-main focused in seeking the Lord Jesus as the year goes on. Later the initials were given additional spiritual meaning: “Christus Mansionem Bene-dicat” (Latin) which means Christ, Bless this House (Catholic Conpendium, Dennis J. Driscoll p.261). The wise men offer us a challenge: not only to seek Jesus and to pay homage, but to travel physical and spiritual distances in order to encounter Jesus, and witness his message, as our mission in the world. Furthermore, our treasures can be laid at the foot of Jesus for the advancement of the gospel. It is im-portant to note that the people like Herod are still around us. People, who for their own selfish reasons will want the destruction of those that have a sense of purpose and direction. As Catholics, we should be conscious of our divine assignment, caretakers of the world, and therefore, we have to account for whatever we were assigned to do. The visit of the wise men from distant parts of the world proves the fact that Je-sus Christ is here for the whole of humanity. In addi-tion, the wise men did not reserve the best for them-selves; they rather drew the attention of the great and the mighty rulers, through their visit and gifts. The generosity of the wise men points to the fact that the person of Jesus is greater than all the treasures in the world. This encounter beckons us on to quickly seek Jesus wherever He is and to offer our souls as our great treasures. It is wonderful to be friendly with an eternal savior/king, Jesus Christ.

As we all know, Larry was a big supporter of the semi-narians, as he chaired our annual dinner for them on a number of occasions, and they lovingly called him “Chicken Larry” for his serving chicken so many times! Larry’s wishes were announced at his funeral, and a number of brothers stepped forward early; then at our November membership meeting it was brought up again and when all had turned in their pledges, we had exactly $1,000!! This delighted Larry’s wife Judy, and she along with GK Kirk LaPlante and PGK/FS Jack Swartz made a trip to the Diocesan Seminary to present the check to Father Paul Sullivan on Nov. 10. He was joined for the picture by several current seminarians.

In all, 20 Knights contributed to the $1,000 fund; they were: Francis Abijaoude, Jim Cairo, Fred Cosme, Fr. Bruno Cuario, Rich Diefendorf, Al Gillis, Artie Hauer, Bill Hintze, GregHuelskamp, Tom Karl, Don Kolb, Kirk LaPlante, Dan McGinn, Gary Parsons, Tom Russell, Rick Smith, Jerry Surdakowski, Jack Swartz, Martin Terminel, and Roel Zamora.

AZ SEMINARIANS BENEFIT FROM LARRY MACKIN’S WISHES When our dear brother Knight, Larry Mackin passed away, he stated that anyone

interested in memorializing him should contribute to the Arizona Seminarians Fund.

L. to R. : GK Kirk LaPlante, Fr. Paul Sullivan, Chris Lukaszewski, David Vallier, Judy Mackin, Andrew Geer-ling, Zachary Zazick, PGK/FS Jack Swartz, and Fr. Fernan-do Camou.

UPDATE: The Knights received an acknowledgment from Bishop Olmsted thanking them for the generous gift, in support of forming seminarians “To make them true shepherds of souls after the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, teacher, priest and shepherd.” (Optatam Totius, Decree on Priestly Training.) Bishop Olmsted asked the Knights [and all parishioners] to pray for our seminarians and priests here in our Diocese and that many more will respond with courage to the Lord’s call in their lives. The Bishop added, “Please be assured of my prayers for you and your families. “
