St Patricks Primary School Together in Faith & Learning Nau mai, welcome to a new year of discovery. What a blessing it is to be back. Thank you all so much for the way in which your children were ready for the year. Stationary is important but the mental positive attitude is life changing. Your children were so positive the first week and this week. Last Sundays Gospel invited us to be salt to each other. I dont think Jesus wanted us to give each other heart disease or to harden arteries, but he was asking us to bring the flavour out of the other person, to make them be a better person. Salt by itself is not a great snack, but by adding it to other foods, it brings the flavours out more fully. It allows the other food to be more full of flavour, taste and subtlety. We too are asked to help bring out the best in those we come in contact with, to be salt. So the question is what can you do today to help bring the best out in someone else? A word of warning though; the Gospel for this coming week commands us to love our enemies, not just our friends. A challenging proposition for us all one would think. However, your children have a wonderful capacity for forgiveness of each other and acceptance of each other. It is so heartening to see them play together, work together, problem solve together and just betogether. Welcome to our new families. Nau mai, welcome to a new year of discovery. What a blessing it is to be back. Thank you all so much for the way in which your children were ready for the year. Stationary is important but the mental positive attitude is life changing. Your children were so positive the first week and this week. Last Sunday’s Gospel invited us to be salt to each other. I don’t think Jesus wanted us to give each other heart disease or to harden arteries, but he was asking us to bring the flavour out of the other person, to make them be a better person. It is so heartening to see them play together, work together, problem solve together and just ‘be’ together. Welcome to our new families. Our Mercy Values

Encourage your child to think about our Mercy values and write a prayer for our prayer wall.

Happy Birthday to You! This fortnight we pray for the following children who have celebrated or will celebrate their birthdays in January and February this year.

We start our year reviewing our gospel values

Meet the teacher evening This went really well. Thanks for coming along and supporting your children. Having strong family – school ties sup-

ports your child’s learning. If you were not able to attend, please contact your child’s teacher to make an appointment.

PARKING SAFETY Thank you to the Parish for enabling our Parents to park in the Parish car par before and after school. Please make sure YOU still walk into the playground to pick up your child/ren as we have seen some children running over on their own.

We are a Positive Behaviour for Learning School. We encourage our children to be Go getters, this means that they are ready to learn, respectful of people and property and take responsi-bility for their actions. Ask your children about our new traffic light system that encourages our students to take on leadership and make good choices. This is how our Traffic light system works: • Every class uses the Traffic Light system to monitor DAILY student behaviour. • Every student starts on the green zone each day. • When a student makes positive choices, in particular the ones that you are focusing on that week, THEY get to move their name up to pink – great choices! If throughout the day a student continues to make positive choices, ( we link these choices to our PB4L values, the 3RS of being ready to learn, responsible for actions , respectful of people and property) then the student moves up to the yellow light and is a Go getter for the day.

Those on Go Getters 2 or more times a week get to take home a special certificate that acknowledges their efforts. Go Getter certificates are presented in assembly and acknowledged in the newsletter. So keep an eye out for certificates coming home

so we can all celebrate your child/ren’s success.
