"Going Deep" this Superbowl Sunday

This evening, millions of Americans will gather

around screens in their homes, at restaurants and bars, and on their tablets, phones and lap-tops. For most, it will be to watch the Superbowl game itself. For others, it will be seeing those $5

million commercials! In either case, they will have a front row seat to something extraordinary: the two best teams in the country trying to win the game and advertisers trying to sell us their wares.

Not being a big sports fan personally, I will leave the analysis of the game to the professionals. But

those commercials; through the miracle of the media, we, in 30 seconds, can learn the main sell-ing points of the newest car, electronic device or even snack food. Advertisers will use the most

clever and eye-catching ways possible to sell us on their products. A quick hit to make a point.

In today's Gospel, Jesus healed Simon's mother-in-law and an entire town of sick people who had shown up. News was spreading by word of mouth. That was the only "social media" available. Jesus

cured all these people, but instructed them not to tell others about his miracles. Why? Why didn't He want that free publicity?

Because people were coming to him for a quick fix. They wanted to be healed and then move on with their lives. More importantly, Jesus came to touch and change lives by preaching the Good

News. And until they listened to Him and realized what He was all about, He could have been like any other impostor who claimed to be a miracle work-er. But Jesus was - and is - so much more than a

worker of miracles. Hopefully our encounters with Jesus are deeper

than just calling upon Him when we want Him to do something for us. Get to know more about the products rather than

making an impulse buy based on a flashy 30-second commercial. Get to really know Jesus more intimately than just reading about His miracles or

asking Him for something. Speak with Him as you would with a trusted friend. Your prayer experience and intimacy with Jesus will be all the fuller. Then

Parish Survey St. Patrick's will be participating in a parish survey about discipleship conducted by the

Catholic Leadership Institute.

The survey will ask you to reflect on your own spiritual growth and provide feedback on our

parish’s efforts to help you grow. All responses will be confidential and the parish will only receive information about the community as a whole. This information will be invaluable to Fr. Redcay, the parish staff and our various ministries as we plan for the future and strive to be the best disciples we can be. Your response is important as we plan for the future of our parish.

In order to maximize our response rate, please be sure to update your email address with the parish office.

The survey goes live on February 5th

and will be primarily accessible online but paper copies will be available to those who need them. Thank you for your participation in this

important project!

LIGHT & LOVE HOLY HOUR Second Fridays

A Friday Night of Praise and Worship Friday, February 9th 7PM - 8PM

End your week with a new tradition of nighttime prayer at St. Patrick Parish. On the second Friday of each month, you are invited to bring the good and the bad, the highs and lows of your week and simply be present with God as you enter a restful weekend. Each Light & Love event will begin with a featured speaker or musician, silent reflection, and time for reconciliation in order to guide our thoughts and prayers. After cleansing our souls, we will enter into adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, simply appreciating God’s endless love for us. Finally, we will close with shared worship and song to celebrate the glory of being God’s beloved children.

for a pilgrimage to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. While there, we will experience the serenity of the St. Charles’ campus as we visit two holy chapels and spend time in quiet prayer and reflection. We will also join the Seminarians as they pray Vespers and Benediction. We will depart by bus, immediately following the 12:00 noon Mass, and will return that evening at 7:30 p.m. Our group will stop for dinner on our way back to Malvern.
