St. John Neumann, pray for us!
A few years ago I traveled, with two priest friends, to Prachatice in the Czech Republic, the birthplace of St. John
Neumann. As a priest of Philadelphia, knowing the impact of St. John Neumann on our local church, I felt honored to
not only visit his hometown, but also to have the opportunity to celebrate Mass in a small chapel where he
was baptized. It was there, in the Church of St. James in that
small town in the Czech Republic, that John Neumann was welcomed into the Church and began to answer his call to be
priest, bishop and saint.
St. John Neumann holds a prominent place in the history of our Archdiocese. It was he who would begin the Catholic
School System to educate the young; he who actively invited religious orders to establish houses within the diocese; he
who endeared himself to the many new immigrant commu-
nities in the city – founding the first Italian national parish in the country; and he who introduced the Forty Hours
Devotion to the faithful of Philadelphia.
It was the fervent prayer of Bishop Neumann that adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament would become a vital part
of the life of his young diocese. Although he faced much opposition, Bishop Neumann courageously introduced the
Forty Hours of continual adoration of Jesus in the Blessed
Sacrament. Today, more than 150 years after his death, the Forty Hours devotion continues to be a practice and
devotion of many parishes throughout Philadelphia.
For a parish community, the opportunity to gather before the Blessed Sacrament is a most graced time. We, at
St. Patrick Parish, are blessed with the opportunity each Monday to come before the Blessed Sacrament in adoration.
As individuals, the time before the Blessed Sacrament is a
time for personal prayer, a time of thanksgiving and a time to sit in quiet with our Lord. Yet, it is also a blessing for us
as a parish family; for whenever we gather before the Lord, all of us experience the overwhelming generosity of
Love….Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.
I pray, through the intercession of St. John Neumann, that we may experience Christ’s many blessings as we spend
time with Him in adoration. May each of us be graced with
a deep longing for a deeper love for the Eucharist and yearn to come before the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament more
frequently.
O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All Praise and All Thanksgiving
be every moment Thine.
God Bless You,
Father Redcay

Catholicism ~ The Pivotal Players Over the course of Catholic history there lived people who were so influential, so pioneering, it’s hard to imagine what the
church would look like without them. Through their words and actions they have not only shaped thousands, but have challenged the status quo and advanced civilization They are the pivotal players.
We will join Bishop Robert Barron on a global adventure to learn the stories of remarkable historical figures ~ Francis of Assisi, Catherine of Siena, G.K. Chesterton, Thomas Aquinas, Michelangelo, and John Henry Newman. A study begins Thursday, September 21st at 7PM in the Parish Center. You may register for the study after all of the Masses next weekend - September 9/10 or by calling the parish office at 610-647-2345.

Ministry Help Needed: Catechists and Aides
Our parish PREP program is still in need of volunteer cate-
chists and catechist aides to teach the faith to our young pa-
rishioners. Our need is at the 4:45 to 6:00 session on Mon-
day or Tuesday in 2nd grade or 4th grade. Would you pray
and discern if this is a ministry you could be involved with?
The rewards are great…an abundance of grace from our
Lord. Our program holds classes weekly from September

great offering to Jesus and His Church. Our Lord will not be
outdone in generosity, and you will be blessed for your gift to
Him! Please contact Sr. Eileen at 610-296-8899 or

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Is there a non-Catholic you know who has expressed inter-
est in our faith and becoming a member of our Church fam-ily or, perhaps, is a baptized Catholic who has not com-
pleted their Sacraments of Initiation? If so, you can be an evangelizer by telling them of our parish’s RCIA process,
which offers catechesis and faith formation in preparation for the Sacraments and initiation into the Catholic Church.
Sister Eileen will be happy to give further information and
answer any questions about the RCIA. You can contact
her at 610-296-8899 or [email protected].
What’s Happening at St. Patrick’s School A total of 330 students have returned to St. Patrick School after a well-deserved
summer vacation. This is the highest enrollment count for the beginning of a school
year since 2007; with the PreK-3 and Kindergarten classrooms at capacity. The second PreK-3
classroom is a new addition for our school – and it is full.
• The students will be welcomed back by several new
classroom teachers, a teachers’ aide and staff members.
• Two seminarians from St. Charles Seminary will be
teaching 7th & 8th grade religion classes once a week for the school year.
• The core purpose of our school is to assist our students in developing a deep relationship with Jesus. Each day
this school year (and for many school years to come) will end with a period of a Daily Examen. An
opportunity for faculty, staff and students to recognize God’s presence in their lives and to deepen that
relationship with Him.
• To enhance the learning environment the students will
be engaged with Virtual Reality Google Expedition. This new learning experience will allow teachers and
students to visit the Great Barrier Reef, travel the human circulatory system, examine the Great Wall of
China, and so much more.
There are also some experiences that will remain part of the St. Patrick School student life:
• Beginning the day with daily prayer.
• Celebration of our Faith at Mass, the Sacrament of
Reconciliation, the praying of the Stations of the Cross and other service opportunities.
• The House Program for our junior high students allows grades 5-8 to collaborate and team up in Houses one
period per week. Activities that happen during House are speakers, service opportunities, games, team
building, prayer, and more.
• The Genius Hour Program for our 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade
students allows freedom to ask a question, research, and present their findings on a personal passion or interest.
Students use iPads and Chromebooks to research and give presentations to their classmates.
On the weekend of September 23/24 the Sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHMs) will be selling chances before and after the Masses for the benefit of their nursing home, Camilla Hall. The pro-

ST. PATRICK’S is offering 2 COURSES of Walking With Purpose this fall.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 26 - 9:45a-11:15 am (childcare provided) OR THURSDAY, SEPT. 28 - 7:00p-8:30 pm Opening Your Heart is an incredibly effective guide to deep, lasting transformation of the heart. Join us as we take a
deeper dive into the questions that we need to wrestle with if we want to experience all that God has for us. For example: What is the role of the Holy Spirit in my life? How can I conquer my fears?
What are the limits of Christ’s forgiveness? Why and how should I pray? What is the role of suffering in my life?
Beholding His Glory shows us how all Old Testament Scripture points us to Jesus. As we look at the Old Testament people and events, we’ll encounter problems only Christ will solve, needs that only He will satisfy and promises that only He can deliver. We’ll learn to recognize and appreciate God’s plan for our own lives, His awe-inspiring majesty, and His desire for personal
intimacy with each one of us. *Opening Your Heart is a prerequisite for this course.*
Walking with Purpose is a Catholic Bible study that aims to bring women to a deeper, per-sonal relationship with Christ through personal study and small group discussions that link our everyday challenges with solutions given to us through the teachings of Christ and the Catholic Church. Info. go to www.walkingwithpurpose.com or [email protected]. Suggested Donation for Course/Book:$55
