The Martyr Eulalia, born of Christian parents in the town of Barcelona, lived during a terrible time of persecution against the Christians in Spain. Completely dedicated to Christ as her Bridegroom, completely immersed in Holy Scripture, Eulalia ceaselessly disciplined herself in voluntary ascesis of the body and spirit. When the torturer Dacian – a merciless killer of Christians throughout Spain – came to Barcelona, Eulalia secretly left from her parents at night, came before the torturer, and, in the presence of many people, rebuked him for slaughtering innocent people and confessed her faith in Christ the Living Lord. The enraged Dacian ordered that Eulalia be disrobed and beaten with rods. The holy virgin showed that she did not feel pain from being tortured for her Christ. The torturer then bound her to a wooden cross and ordered that her body be burned with torches. Then the torturer asked her: “Where is your Christ, now, to save you?” Eulalia answered: “He is here with me, but you are unable to see Him because of your impurity.” Under savage torture, Eulalia gave her soul to God. When she reposed, snow instantly fell from the sky and covered the naked body of the martyr like a white garment. (Excerpt taken from The Prologue of Ochrid)

A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: By God’s grace, we were blessed with a beautiful summer and hopefully, we have allowed ourselves

that time to rest and recuperate. But the Church knows only ONE season, the season of the Lord, and our work continues! We have been gifted the presence of His Grace, our Bishop Gregory, who has joyously agreed to join us for our annual Kermeš,

taking place the weekend of November 20, 2016. Eis Polla eti Despota! Many years, Master! NEXT WEEK, THE BLESSING OF CHILDREN & TEACHERS: Since next week will begin the Sunday School program for 2016-2017, there will be a blessing of our parish children & teachers taking place before 10 AM Divine Liturgy. For those involved, please allow enough time in your schedule to arrive at least 15 minutes early that day to participate in the blessing. NEXT WEEK, 9/11 MEMORIAL SERVICE: Next Sunday will mark the 15th anniversary of the falling asleep of victims in the 9/11 attacks in 2001. Following Divine services, all are welcome to remain for the singing of music and the celebration of Parastas as we continue to ask God’s care for the fallen victims, that they may abide in “a place of light where there is no pain, nor sorrow, nor sighing, but life everlasting.” UP & COMING PARISH MEETINGS:

PARISH BOARD MEETING, Next Sunday Jr. ACRY MEETING, Next Sunday LADIES ALTAR SOCIETY, October 2nd

A REMINDER THAT HUNGER DOESN’T TAKE A VACATION

For this reason, we will be collecting food through the summer in #2 Hall. If you can’t get to the grocery store, please consider making a monetary donation to Bob Zizik.
