*** A Note from the Pastor ***

My Brothers and Sisters, Today we stand with Jesus and the Apostles to witness a poor widow put two small coins in the collection, which Jesus recognizes as more than all the others have given! It is important for us to understand why we give to our Church or place money in the collection! The first reason is to show that “in God, we trust”. Tithing of 10% of our income is recommended to show that we trust God more than money. The widow gave all she had to show that she trusted God more than the coins. The second reason is that every Church Member is charged with “helping provide for the needs of the Church” (CCC 2041). This may be financially or by volunteering your time. The Church relies on you...even as it is dedicated to serving our community. Lastly, the collection is an old tradition connected to the bringing up of the gifts. Where crops and chickens used to be given for redistribution and helping the community...it is now money collected. Let your contribution never be forced or feel like a fee...but be seen as an opportunity to serve God from the gifts He has given you! God love you!!!

Sunday Reading Insights

“Jesus knows the full worth of the poor widow who contributes to the Temple treasury ’all she had, her whole livelihood.’ Although her alms financially amounted to almost nothing, she remained certain that God would be pleased with her sacrifice. For, more than her money, she sacrificed to God the last shreds of her self-sufficiency. Like the widow of Zarephath, she believed in a bounty beyond her meager means. ’The jar of flour shall not go empty,’ for it has become the Bread of Life, Jesus, who provides for those who make their lives a total gift of self to Him. In that action we discover our full worth. That is what Christ presents to the Father as He ’appears before God on our behalf.’ ” (Taken from November-Magnificat, Pgs. 152-153)
