RELIGIOUS FREEDOM
WEEK
Religious Freedom Week will be celebrated in dioceses nationwide from June 22 to June 29. Throughout the week we will focus on the importance of pre-serving the essential right of religious freedom, both now and in the future, for Catholics and all people of faith. This year’s theme is “Serving Others in God’s Love” reminding us that reli-gious liberty allows people of faith to serve God and others freely in ministries like healthcare, adoption and foster care, edu-cation, and migration and refugee services to name a few. The significant feast days during the week (Saints Thomas More and John Fisher – June 22, Saint John the Baptist – June 24, and Saints Peter and Paul – June 29) inspire us to follow the example of these great saints who loved God above all and remained faithful in the face of adversity. Please visit www.usccb.org/ReligiousFreedomWeek to download the “Pray-Reflect-Act” one-pagers for each day on various religious liberty topics. These excellent resources are intended to inspire us to learn more about religious liberty from a Catholic perspective, help us to pray about particular issues, and provide us with tools to act on what we learn. Additional information can be found at www.worcesterdiocese.org/religiousfreedomweek.
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
FAREWELL FR. JUAN
As Fr. Juan celebrates his last weekend with us at St. Mary’s, I want to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation and gratitude for all that he has done for me and the St. Mary’s parish community during his three years as our Associate Pastor. From the first weekend he came in the Summer of 2015, Fr. Juan instantly touched our hearts with his warmth, enthusiasm and deep faith. A young priest with wis-dom and grace well beyond his years, Fr. Juan has ministered so faithfully and so well to the people of St. Mary’s and be-yond. THANK-YOU Fr. Juan for baptizing our infant children, for sharing your joy with the young children in our parish school and religious education program, for helping so many of them prepare for their First Reconciliation and First Communion, and for joining our high school youth for their Confirmation retreats and Summer Service Trips. THANK-YOU for working so faithfully as a member of the St. Mary’s Parish Staff, for leading the parish Liturgy Committee and helping to train altar servers, lectors and Eucharistic Minis-ters, for working with the Respect Life Committee, the Men’s Group, and the Pure in Heart young adults. THANK-YOU for the loving care you have extended to parish-ioners in the hospital and nursing homes and those who are confined to their own homes. Thank-you for the counsel you gave to many who sought your advice and prayers. Thank-you for the pastoral care of families at the time of a loved one’s death and for the beautiful funeral liturgies which have brought so much consolation to so many. THANK-YOU for being our priest every day and every week. Your love of the liturgy and your inspiring homilies have nur-tured our faith. Your love of people, your love of God and Je-sus Christ, and your love for the Church have made us all the richer and better. Your oft quoted phrase at the end of every Mass we know was so sincere. And so as you say “Love You All” one more time this weekend, may we say to you that we will “Love You Al-ways. God Bless you Fr. Juan ! Fr. Mike

Over 60 St. Mary’s parishioners have participated in one of our Light of the World Retreats. We hope you will join us this coming year. The Light of the World parish retreat gives parishioners the opportunity to grow in their faith together. The experience helps people to live the Catholic Christian life with more zeal and enthusiasm. The retreat weekend will take place from Fri-day evening through Sunday here at St. Mary’s.
