Dear parish family, 5 Sunday A Let’s welcome Jessica Jaramillo to be back once again as a Parish Staff. She now assumes as our new Parish Secretary to replace Debbie Heasty. Due to personal & family needs, Debbie retired from her position she occupied for 15 years. We are so grateful for her outstanding and valuable service to this parish church. She will be greatly missed by many of us. So we were scrambling to find someone who knows the office and the parish very well to fill her shoes. Thank goodness that Jessica is willing to move back here to fill up the vacancy – she is a perfect fit for the job since she is already familiar with the office and most of all she knows the parishioners. Jessica was formerly our CCE coordinator but resigned last May to move on to work at the Catholic Charities office downtown. Her former position is now assumed by Shari Davis with Graciela Lopez assisting. By the way, we are also very grateful to all the donors of our Christmas wish gift to the church to fund a new Video Cam Security System in our parish premises. We have them installed this week. This is crucially important for Insurance and protection purposes. Obviously we need evidentiary record if there are any incidents. However we always hope and pray that there would not be any. Jesus in the gospel this Sunday tells us that we are the “salt of the earth and the light of the world.” We know the metaphor. As salt gives flavor to food, transforms a tasteless meal into a rich dish, we are called to transform the world into an expression of beauty and goodness. And we ought to bring light that dissipates the darkness of the world we live. Maybe what challenges and scares us today is the word “You.” As Christians we are tasked to be worthy of the name we bear - “Christ.” Jesus is not speaking vaguely in general. The work of the kingdom belongs to us being “the salt of the earth and light of the world.” He is practically and directly saying to each and every one of us, “I'm counting on you.” Blessings to all and have a good week. Fr. Tony

Querida familia parroquial, 5 domingo A

Fr. Tony
