BAPTISMS: Every third Sunday of the month at 12:00. Parents are expected to attend Pre-Baptismal Classes. Arrangements to be made at the Parish Office. Only practicing Catholics may act as Godparents. MARRIAGES: Specific time is set for the celebration of marriage on Saturdays. The common Policy for all the Dioceses of New Jersey requires a period of preparation for the sacrament of Marriage, which includes sessions with the parish priest and attendance at either the Pre-Cana conferences or the Engaged Encounter Weekend. Therefore, arrangements are to be made at least one year in advance and before any social plans are finalized. FIRST PENANCE, FIRST EUCHARIST, CONFIRMATION: Though immediate preparation is given to children before receiving these sacraments, it is expected that children receive a Christian education within their family life, through formal religious education classes, and by attending Sunday worship services. PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: Arrangements for Communion Calls to the sick at home may be made by calling the Parish Office. PARISH REGISTRATION: Our parish welcomes new members to our faith community. Catholic persons new to our area must complete a registration form and be interviewed by the pastor. Please call or stop by the Parish office to complete a registration form. TODAY’S READINGS

First Reading - Isaiah speaks of the Servant whom the Lord upholds; he shall bring forth justice to the nations. Second Reading - Jesus was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit; he went out healing and doing good. Gospel - A voice comes from heaven proclaiming Jesus as the beloved Son, with whom God is well pleased.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Merry Christmas! Share that cheerful greeting with some folks today. They may wonder if you have had any Elvis sightings lately, attended Star Trek conventions, or were Cleopatra in a previous lifetime. Despite the skeptics, today is solidly with-in the Christmas season. In fact, in some strands of the Christian tradition it represents the clearest manifestation of the mystery of the Incarnation. On Christmas Day, for example, the Gospel read-ing is the Prologue of John’s Gospel, which re-veals the glory of Christ shining through our hu-manity precisely in his baptism. At any rate, this is an ancient feast, celebrated first in Egypt sixteen centuries ago. More than most other ancient people, the Egyptians under-stood the life‑giving properties of water. On this day, they drew water from the Nile, so central in the history of their people, and reserved it in hon-or. Many other places copied the custom, so that St. John Chrysostom wrote of people in Antioch gathering at midnight to collect flowing water into vessels they brought from home since “today there is a blessing on the water.” At home for dinner to-night, decorate the table with beautiful bowls of water and white candles, toast one another with goblets of sparkling water, and light a Christmas candle in the window one last time.

ANNOUNCEMENT

I would like to introduce a few things for our Sunday liturgies during the cold and flu sea-son. We will offer Communion under one spe-cies only, the Body of Christ.
