FROM THE DESK OF FR. STEVE

Today we enter into the fifth Sunday of Lent. It is important for us to recognize where our Lenten ob-servance has been lacking over the last four weeks. Have I slacked in my penance or offerings? Now is the time for us to “turn up the heat on the stove“ so to speak, and make right for where we have lacked over these last few weeks. That is why we have 7 weeks of Lenten Penance—because the human heart, in our weakness needs to move slowly. So let’s all step it up a bit over these next two weeks. Ideas to make offering in last weeks of Lent: Perhaps we can turn off the TV for a particular time. Read the Passion narrative in the Bible. Si-lence our radio in the car. Get out of bed when the alarm clock rings. Make a gift offering to the parish food bank. Schedule: Please see the bulletin and announcements for our Lenten confession schedule and the Holy Week schedule at both parishes. One of the best ways for us to communicate information is by word-of-mouth. Make sure everyone in our small towns knows the holy week schedule. What are your plans for Holy Week? It is so important to make a plan now so that you can hold yourself accountable to it when Holy Week comes. I encourage and challenge all of you to come to at least one of the Holy Week Sacred services. Holy Thursday: the mass of the Lord’s supper. Good Friday: the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The Easter Vigil: the Solemn Resurrection of Jesus. Enter into the mystery of what our God has done for us. Preaching series: We continued our preaching series on the seven last words of Christ. This week we heard Jesus exclaim: “I Thirst!” More than water or food Jesus is thirst-ing for you. He wants your heart your sins and deeper conversion. This is the whole purpose of Lent! That we might grow in greater union with Him who died for us! Know of my prayers—please pray for me In the Heart of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Steve

ANGEL GARDEN An ongoing project

Do you know that we have our own Angel Garden? Look out-

side of the Lower Narthex windows. If you would like to have a brick engraved in memory of a loved one, pick up the order form, which is on the end table, down in the Narthex. There are instructions on how to fill it out. The sizes of bricks are there also. After you decide on the wording, please return it to the Parish Office, along with your check. You may also put it in an envelope marked Angel Garden and place it in the offertory basket. We will be sending an-other batch to be engraved soon. Then, Spring will arrive and they will be placed in the garden.
