2020 Annual Catholic Appeal: Seeing Christ in the Faces of Others
“No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one
another, God remains in us, and His love is brought to perfection in us.” 1 John 4:14.
The Annual Catholic Appeal, with its theme, “Seeing Christ in the Faces of Others”
continues throughout our diocese. Funds raised though the Appeal bring hope, comfort, compassion and love into the lives of many people. Appeal supported ministries touch thousands of individuals and families throughout Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore providing essential service that knows no race, no age, no social class, but rather knows only those who come to the Church for help are special in the eyes of Our Lord. Now more than ever, these ministries are needed. Your support demonstrates your compassion and concern for God’s people and your willingness to share your blessings with those in need.
During the week of June 1st, you may receive a mailing from Bishop Malooly inviting your participation in the Annual Catholic Appeal. For those of you who have given to this year’s Appeal, thank you for your generosity. For those who have not, please prayerfully consider supporting this important effort. In the meantime, you are encouraged to learn more about the Annual Catholic Appeal by visiting www.cdow.org/annualcatholicappeal. Please view the brief video offering inspiring testimony from recipients of featured Appeal supported ministries: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80gz5V5VaH8&t=2s.
PENTECOST PRAYER REQUEST: May 31st
The Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Father, send now your Spirit over the earth. Let the Holy
Spirit live in the hearts of all peoples, that they may be preserved from degeneration, disasters, and war.
May the Lady of all Nations, the Blessed Virgin Mary, be our Advocate. Amen.
Video Link Explaining the Reason for Request: https://www.motherofallpeoples.com/post/what-s-your-
role-for-a-new-pentecost-through-mary
A group of Marian lay leaders of the People of God are inviting you to participate in a very important worldwide Marian initiative! This upcoming May 31, 2020, is an extremely important day. Along with being the Solemnity of Pentecost, it is also typically the Feast of the Visitation of Mary, which concludes Our Lady’s special month of May.
In the video link above Mariologist Dr. Mark Miravalle asks us to think about a New Pentecost through Mary this May. He also explains the reason for this international request for a prayer to Mary, Mother of All Nations/Peoples on the Feast of Pentecost asking Mary to intercede on our behalf for a new action of the Holy Spirit- another Pentecost!
Please join together on this upcoming Pentecost Solemnity, May 31st, praying through the Advocacy of Mary for a new descent of the Holy Spirit, in order to prevent Coronavirus and other aspects of moral degeneration, disasters and war threatening humanity today.
Father Kirk is pleased to announce the newly formed SMM Parish Reopening Task Force.
The task force members are as follows:
Stephanie Casey, Bill Dowdell, Howard Eck, Garvan McDaniel, Megan McGlinchey, and
Melissa Calvanico-Pollio.
They have been charged with creating guidelines for the reopening of SMM Church and the resumption of Masses. Father Kirk expects their work to be completed as quickly as possible however please be aware that this will still take some time. Bishop Malooly will be issuing directives for reopening in the very near future. We will issues updates as they become available.
Keep praying.
Stay patient.
UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE:
Mass Intentions: During the coronavirus quarantine, all mass intentions are still being fulfilled. Father Kirk is saying daily masses & we will be posting one a week online for people to view, as well as the weekend mass. Previous masses are available on St. Mary Magdalen’s Parish YouTube channel. (If anyone wants to change their current intention until after the quarantine, please call the parish office to make those arrangements or email [email protected].)
Bulletins: Until we are able to gather again as a parish community, bulletins will be shortened in size and be available every other week on our website.
Website: Our website www.smmchurch.org contains all updates due to the coronavirus (important announcements, masses, videos & YouTube channel updates, etc.). Please check the website regularly.
PENTECOST SUNDAY
AKA: “Birthday of the Church”
Date: Fifty days after Easter (Pentecost literally means “50”)
Celebrates: The day the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles & they were granted the gifts of the Holy Spirit:
Wisdom, Wonder & Awe, Understanding, Reverence, Right Judgement, Courage,
and Knowledge
These gifts helped them to fulfill their mission to preach the Gospel to all nations, speaking in tongues. On that first Pentecost Sunday, over 3,000 people were converted and baptized. For us, these gifts are given to us at the sacrament of Confirmation, helping us to live a Christian life.
CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES!
In our next bulletin, June 7th, we will be congratulating our graduates from SMM
School (8th grade graduates) & our parish high school graduates.
ATTENTION FAMILIES WITH
COLLEGE GRADUATES:

We would also like to publish a list of parishioners that graduated from college as the Class of 2020. If you are a
parishioner & have a graduate from college this year, please send their name, college name, & major in an email to [email protected] and we will publish
