ST. MARY CATHEDRAL LANSING, MICHIGAN

HURRICANE RELIEF RESPONSE Thank you, thank you, thank you for the great response you gave last week through that special second collection that was taken up after Holy Communion concluded last weekend at the three Masses. Your donations totaled $5457.90! Awesome! We will be forwarding a check to the Diocese late this coming week. Any monies received this weekend will be combined with the previous amount and all of it will be combined with the collections from all the other Lansing Diocese parishes and sent to Catholic Charities USA, and to the Dioceses most affected by the Hurricanes. Again, thank you for your generosity. HELP SPREAD THE FAITH – September 23-24 Thank you for making last year’s Help Spread the FAITH Appeal a success. Thank you for answering Christ’s call to evangelize. The Help Spread the FAITH Appeal makes our own local evangelization efforts, like FAITH magazine and the televised Outreach Mass, possi-ble. Bishop Earl Boyea believes that FAITH magazine has been an important part of our evangelization plan. FAITH magazine is sent to your home and every Catholic home each month by our parishes and diocese. Many of our fel-low Catholics have become disconnected from the life of the Church, and Bishop Boyea believes that FAITH maga-zine has been the best way to reach out to them. In addi-tion to FAITH magazine, our diocese continues to evange-lize with interactive websites, weekly television Masses, the U.S. bishops’ national efforts and local parish initia-tives. By supporting the Help Spread the FAITH Appeal, you will help us continue to answer Christ’s call to reach out with the Gospel message. Your gift to Help Spread the Faith will support: • FAITH magazine: a monthly magazine sent to you and

every Catholic in the Diocese – 65,000 homes. • FAITHpub.com: and interactive online resource with

daily changing content. • Television Outreach Mass: a weekly broadcast of the

Diocese of Lansing. • U.S. bishop’s national evangelization efforts: impact-

ing the media and our society. FAITHpub app: Free iPhone/iPad mobile apps.

By supporting St. Mary Cathedral and our diocese in this Help Spread the FAITH Appeal, you will enable us to car-ry out evangelization efforts here in the parish, in our dio-cese and across the nation. Your support ensures that FAITH magazine will continue to be sent to every Catho-lic home in the Diocese of Lansing. You will ensure that the Outreach Mass will continue to be broadcast and the U.S. bishops will continue their national evangelization efforts. Christ called us to proclaim the Gospel from the moun-taintop. In today’s society, that is a big challenge. We all know the power of the media. With your support, we can use that power to reach out with a positive message – a message that we belong to someone – Jesus.

MARK THE DATE In cooperation with Rite Aid Pharmacy, there will be a flu clinic at St. Mary Parish Hall on Friday, September 29, from 10am-12pm. Flu shots and pneumonia shots will be available. Bring your proof of insurance/Medicare card with you when you come. Appointments not re-quired.

Please use either the special envelope included in your bi-monthly packet next weekend, or you can use the enve-lope inserted in the most recent copy of FAITH magazine. Both can simply be dropped in the regular collection bas-ket as it comes around next weekend. Thank you for your consideration. ~Fr. B

ST. MARY CATHEDRAL MUSIC MINISTRY Do you have musical gifts to share? Consider serving as a cantor, member of the choir, or instrumentalist. Opportunities begin this month, and everyone high school through adult is welcome. The choir sings at 11am Sunday Mass (10am warmup) with rehearsals in the choir loft on Thursdays, 7-9pm. There are openings for all voice parts, but particularly in the bass section. A pleasant voice and the desire to sing as part of a group are the most important qualities. Cantors lead the assembly in song at all the weekend Masses, should have a pleasing voice and have the ability to learn music independently (training provided.) There are opportunities for instrumentalists throughout the liturgical year, but especially at celebrations such as Christmas and Easter. The ability to learn music independently and availability for rehearsals is required. To sign up or learn more, contact Timothy Costigan, Director of Music at [email protected] or stop by the loft after any weekend Mass. ORGAN RECITAL– SEPTEMBER 24 Dr. James Kibbie, professor and chair of the Organ Department and University organist at the University of Michigan, will perform Louis Vierne’s Symphony No. 6, Op. 59 here at St. Mary Cathedral on Sunday, September 24 at 3pm. For details, contact Tim Costigan, Director of Music at [email protected].

PANCAKE BREAKFAST Join us TODAY, Sunday, September 17 for our KofC Pancake Breakfast, after each of the Masses.
