Do you Like to Read?

We have a library full of books for you to borrow and enjoy? The books

are in categories and listed alphabetically. We have a database with all

the books. Please make sure you sign the books out. Take the card out

of the back of the book and sign your name and the date, then place the

card in the pink box on the shelf under the letter of your last name. You

may check the books out for three weeks but if you need more time just

recheck it out. When you return the books just put them back in the green

basket and I will check them back in and reshelf them. If you have any

questions or want to check database for specific book see Linda Smith in

the office. If you have books that you no longer want, you can donate

them to the library. Just put them in the green basket.

CARE TEAM NEWS

We are a branch of the GO Team but definitely not limited to those who are part of the GO Team. Our team is anyone who wants to be involved in helping others in any way possible. Part of our focus is the residents at Fox Trail, a home for seniors who require assistance in day to day living. We have served meals a couple of times this year, taken over special treats and cards for them, had visitations during the week with individuals, and held worship time with them to include Communion the first three Sundays and the fifth Sunday of each month. Our main focus is being available for members of our church family when needed whether it be a visit in the hospital or a phone call. Holly Cooke diligently sends cards to members of our church family on special occasions as part of showing love and care for them. One could say the care extends beyond the immediate community of St. Mark's because care is shown to those in different communities by several people from St. Mark's, sharing the love of God. Anyone who wants to be considered a part of the team is welcome to participate whenever we have something requiring extra TLC. If anyone knows someone who needs a visit or other attention, feel free to contact Lucy Brewer or Pam Bryan. May God be with each and every person during the year 2020. In Christ, Lucy Brewer

EQUIPPING TEAM NEWS

Sunday School/Children’s Church News January

By Robin Cameron

January: So they went out and proclaimed that people should change their hearts and lives. (Mark 6:12)

December was a Beautiful Month! The Church was filled with gorgeous decorations. Children’s church was thrilled to decorate the Christmas tree in the church narthex. Our children also had great fun making Christmas cards for Fox Trail. We also spent time getting ready for the Church play. Brody and Pat played their parts as Donkeys very well. Brody says, “Never try to play pin the tail on the donkey with me in the room.” January 5th our story is entitled: Jesus is Baptized (Mark 1:9-11) January 12th our story is entitled: Jesus Brings Good News (Luke4:14-30) January 19th our story is entitled: Jesus Calls Levi (Luke 5: 27-32) January 26th our story is entitled: Jesus Sends the Disciples (Mark 6:7-13)

Children’s church will continue the study of each story with arts and crafts, plays, and games. Ms. Susie will be leading Children’s Church.

GO TEAM NEWS

Happy New Year from the Go Team! I hope you had a blessed Christmas

with your family and friends. We are now looking forward to a great year of

ministry with the folks in our community. My personal challenge this year will

be for us to have a more “outward” focus. We have worked hard to reach

folks in our community and share Christ’s love with them. I have been

following the Ministry called “See all the People” with Rev. Junius B. Dotson,

General Secretary Discipleship Ministries, The United Methodist Church.

(https://www.seeallthepeople.org/) His focus is on discipleship and

evangelism. He has lots of good info on being in ministry in our communities.

He challenged his congregation to get outside of the box. Here is a list of

those things that you can think about!

· go outside and see all the people.

· intentionally introduced yourself to someone you do not know in the church

neighborhood

· have coffee, breakfast or lunch with a new non-church related friend.

· host an intentional activity that happened outside our doors that was open

and welcoming to non-church members.

· intentionally engage with a non-Christian in order to listen to his or her story

and share theirs.

· See if you can look at the world differently over the next three months

Community Dinner

The community dinner is right around the corner. We had a wonderful time at

the Christmas Dinner. Forty folks came to fellowship and worship Christ

through Christmas Carols preceded by our pastor’s message. I am happy to

say that we had more guests than congregation. Several takeout dinners

were also provided for some folks that are in our community that need a little

extra help making ends meet. Many thanks to all the folks that worked to get

the room ready and worked in the kitchen or provided foods for our dinner.

Our January Community Dinner is on Monday, January 20, 2020. The menu

will be Turkey Noodle Soup, Baked potato and Ham Soup, Grilled cheese

sandwiches, salad and desserts. Pease bring your friend and come join us

for a night of fellowship and good food.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be on January 22 at 7:30PM. Our primary focus will be

the community dinner menus for February, March & April. I would also like

our committee to think of some creative new ways to reach our community.

We recently did events with Yorkshire School and the Leland House in

Centreville to be a presence but we may have other things that we can do.

Please pray about it and bring your ideas to the meeting!

MUSIC DIRECTOR NEWS

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;

Naught be all else to me save that thou art.

Thou my best thought, by day and by night,

Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

The hymn “Be Thou My Vision” has its origin early in Irish history. The lyrics

come from an Irish poem that may have been written as early as the

8th century. The music comes from an old Irish folk song called

“Slane”. “Slane” is named for a hill in Ireland where, according to tradition, St.

Patrick lit an Easter fire in defiance of the local pagan king. The king was

impressed by Patrick’s devotion and allowed Patrick to continue his work as

Ireland’s first Christian missionary.

As we enter the new year, I pray that we strive to follow God’s vision for our

lives.

Jacob

ST MARK’S WOMEN’S NEWS

The year 2019 has been a busy one for the St. Mark's Women's Group,

nothing unusual. We have had a good year of working together as a team in

different situations. We've collected, sorted, packed, and delivered. We've

shared God's love in many ways, sharing time with each other and by

providing for others in difficult situations. We have supported financially

organizations in our community as well as those who are in different parts of

Virginia and globally. Many of the times of helping others has been with the

great generosity of the congregation and their support. We've also had social

times during our meetings around the table. Have to have some pleasure

with the serious times. We are facing 2020 with eagerness and will be

planning our annual agenda at our January meeting, hoping to add new

projects that bring us in more direct contact with those we help. From all of us

to all of you, have a very safe and Happy New Year!

In Christ,

Lucy Brewer
