JANUARY 10, 2021 The Baptism of the Lord
THE MISSION OF ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH
IS TO EXTEND THE KINGDOM OF GOD
BY SHARING GOD’S LOVE IN THE CHURCH COMMUNITY
THROUGH SPIRIT-FILLED LITURGIES,
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION, AND SERVICE TO OTHERS.
A Pastorate of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana
-
Welcome! I want to personally and warmly welcome all of you! For 25 years now, St. Maria Goretti
parish has been building the Kingdom of God, not with a few people, but with everyone! I pray that you
will come to know St. Maria Goretti as we all hope it to be and are continuing to strive in our efforts to
make it — this is our Spiritual Home and a Loving Community. We are glad you are here and look
forward to meeting you! God Bless you. —Father Dudzinski
A NOTE FROM FATHER DUDZINSKI
+JMJ+
Greetings and God’s bless-
ings to all of you! Happy and
holy solemnity of the Bap-
tism of the Lord!” “Where
your treasure is, there will
your heart be also.” — Mt. 6:21
Are you “fired up?” Yes, “fired up” for this cele-
bration of the Baptism of the Lord!
The waters of Baptism were made holy by
the Baptism of the Lord. We know Jesus didn’t
need to be Baptized, but He wanted to show us
the way to eternal life. He showed us the way
by His own humble submission to the Father’s
will! Jesus wants us to know by His Baptism
that it is necessary for us to follow the path that
He Himself has taken and desires for us!
The scriptures make it very clear that
Baptism is necessary for eternal life. Out-
side of that, we do not have the assurances that
we do from the fullness of God’s revelation in
the person of Jesus Christ and the Church He
founded. Baptism gives us God’s life
(Sanctifying Grace) and takes away Original
Sin. Once this happens we are able to move
forward in faith and allow God to strengthen
and guide us in our faith journey.
So, it is important to note as well, it is not
enough to just receive Baptism; we need to live
out that Baptism the way God and the Church
have asked of us. This takes a humble trust
in the Lord and what He has established for
us. We cannot say, “Oh, I’m saved!” And then
that is it. We need to be reflecting and radi-
ating Christ in our lives.
We are called to grow in holiness and faith
and share that faith with others. How are we
doing with this? A very important point re-
garding our Faith is that we know, at any given
time, whether we are where we need to be in
our journey of faith or not. Are we walking
with God? Have we separated ourselves from
Him by grave sin? If we can honestly say that
we are walking with God and confessing our
sins on a regular basis, especially as needed,
then we should be good to go (we are on the
right track).
This is not to say we have earned anything.
All is grace and a free gift from God! It
means we have united our wills with God and
have accepted the graces necessary for our sal-
vation. Thus, we will know the answer to the
Question… and the hope is that we can say, not
necessarily that we are saved, but that we have
accepted the salvation we have been offered
and we have the assurances that offers us!
Remember, it’s a journey of faith all the
way to the end!
St. Maria Goretti… pray for us!

To find clues as to the meaning of life, we first look at ourselves. You are one among
billions on this planet. Who are you? This week, watch Episode 2—Who Are You? at
http://smgonline.formed.org/. Join with your spouse, a small group, or be part of the
virtual group by contacting Connie Anderson at [email protected].
After watching, reflect and share the following:
a) the great gift you are—have you realized you are gift?
b) you are made for something more—how do you react to that?
c) what does it mean to you to be made in the image and likeness of God?
ADULT BIBLE STUDY—HEBREWSEmbark on a guided tour of the “Holy of Holies” of biblical theology. Join Andrew Swafford and Jeff Cavins
as they draw out the riches of the book of Hebrews in a way that is easy to understand and help partici-pants to appreciate the generosity of God. All adults are welcome to join on Wednesday evenings, 7-8:30 pm; Thursday mornings, 9-10:30 am; or
virtually Thursday afternoons, 1-2 pm, beginning January 20 and 21. Registration forms are located on Realm or by contacting David Bain, 317-575-8945; Bret Clement, 317-438-050; or Connie Anderson, [email protected]. for details.
Uniting in Heart is the Diocesan pastoral plan to unite our diocese in the heart of Jesus Christ through living out the 3 Pillars of Mission, Community, and Witness.
This week we learn we must “evangelize” ourselves before chipping away at the world’s unbelief.
BEHOLD, I MAKE ALL THINGS NEW. —REV 2:5 DOL-IN.ORG/[email protected]@DIOLAFIN
I am a new missionary pastor. While I spent a year as a parochial administrator in one of my previous assign-ments, I think this is different. The diocese is undergo-ing a process of conversion and change, in order for eachpastorate (and each individual) to be led into a deeper experience of Christ, and to share the Gospel with others.
The word “evangelization” is still foreign to many Catholics, and the very word itself conjures up images of knocking on unsuspecting peoples’ doors, trying to convince them to “join us.” While there is some truth to this image, as I am sure many of us have experienced the “knock,” this is not what we are talking about in Uniting in Heart.
The vision of Uniting in Heart is to share the Good News, the Gospel, the saving work of Jesus Christ, with the world, and we do that one person at a time, one relationship at a time, one conversation about God at a time. Many people think that evangelization and
Church-growth are one and the same. They are not. While we want to see the Church grow in numbers, we need to see the Church grow in depth of spirituality. When we speak of evangelization, we need to evangelizeourselves first. We cannot give what we do not have. Our hope is that as people hear the Good News, they will find its fulfillment with us in the Catholic Church.
It takes a while to change a culture, and we have to chip away at it as if we were digging a tunnel. I am confident that with patience and time we will all see the fruit of our labors, if we use the right tools and we tunnel in the correct direction. We need to use the sav-ing message of Jesus Christ to chip away at the indif-ference and cynicism in our hearts. Eventually we’ll reach the other side to eternal life with Christ.
~ Father Sean Pogue is the Missionary Pastor for Sa-cred Heart of Jesus Church in Cicero.

NEW HOUR WITHOUT AN ADORERAt least 20 slots are available forevery hour our Lord is exposed in the Holy Spirit Chapel. Ideally, more than one adorer should be with Jesus every hour. Regular
adorers often say it is the most important prayer time of the week. Contact Jeff Brown, 317-417-1540, to schedule an Adoration hour that fits your timeta-ble. Perhaps you would consider the Thursday, 11pm hour as your own. Currently, no adorer is scheduled then.
Right to Life of Indianapolis has once again planned the Indiana March for Life Memo-rial Service and Rally for Fri-day, January 22, starting at noon in downtown Indianapo-
lis on Georgia Street. The Midwest Diaper Drive hopes to collect more than 130,000 diapers to help moms and babies. The number represents the aver-age number of babies aborted each year in the Mid-west. You can go to marchforlifechicago.org or rtlindy.org for more information.
The E6 Catholic Men’s
Conference will be held
at the All Saints Parish–
St. Joseph campus in St.
Leon on Saturday, Feb-
ruary 27. COVID-Compliance limits attendance, but
more significantly, there is unlimited live-streaming
of the conference, so individuals or groups (families,
men’s groups, or entire parishes) can witness and par-
ticipate with a single enrollment. Feature speakers are
Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, Jason Evert, and Patrick
Coffin. In-person or live-streaming registration has be-
gun. To register, to go e6catholicmensconference.com.
