Dear St. Nicholas Parish Family,
With a Parish Family like ours, nothing can stop us, not even CODID-19. Whatever need our parish has, our beloved parishioners respond two fold.
Our spiritual Fathers, along with the Parish Council, are working hard to adhere with all Metropolis and CDC requirements and regulations to keep us safe.
We have been granted permission to conduct sacraments under the Parish COVID Safety guidelines and we are grateful for everyone’s understanding and cooperation. Please call the church office to schedule your sacraments and memorials. Koliva is still not permitted, but paximathia are available for purchase through Philoptochos to take home.
Our parish giving is steady, the online giving is a great resource for our parishioners, if you have not made your pledge please consider doing so.
Our mortgage will refinance on August 1, 2020, through the efforts of our Finance Committee, Basil Pappas, John Russon, John Koch, and George Ellis, we have secured the same rate of 3% for the next 5 years. Our sincere gratitude for their tireless efforts to secure this great rate with our lender and friend, Jefferson Bank & Trust.
I am excited to share with you our community project of Gyros for Heroes. On July 16, we prepared and served lunch to Barnes Jewish Hospital doctors and nurses, Royal Oak nursing home behind our church, St. Louis Fire Department Engine House #28 and Engine House #29, and the 5th & 6th District of the St. Louis Police Department. A total of 350 lunches were served to our first response heroes. This beautiful endeavor was underwritten with donations from several generous parishioners. We humbly thank you. A similar event will he held for the first responders at our West County Facility in August. Details to follow.
The Taste of the Greek Festival COVID style occurred on July 24, 25 & 26. This was our first attempt at Curbside Orders, our Friday night was a little rocky, but by Saturday morning we had ironed out all bugs and were in perfect harmony handling all orders timely and efficiently. Patrons placed their order via their computer or phone, chose a pick up time and their order was ready and waiting for them as they drove through the FLC parking lot. A HUGE HEARTFELT THANK YOU to all that supported and to all that volunteered. It truly was wonderful to be back doing what we love. Our gross receipts for the weekend were $50,500. Incredible!! The Labor Day Greek Festival will work the same way, we are excited about our new festival venture. Please stay tuned for more details.
Thank you for your continued love and support of our beloved St. Nicholas Church as we all navigate through this strange and uncertain time. “Love is the passport with which we pass through all the heavily doors without obstacle.”-- St. John Chrysostom In Christ’s Work, Helen Yiatras Carey

Dear St. Nicholas Family & Friends,
Traditionally, the annual Greek Festival presents a tremendous opportunity for us to unite together as family & friends to share our faith and culture with the St. Louis community. This year, we are faced with “non-traditional” challenges due to the circumstances of the pandemic.
The Metropolis of Chicago formed a Parish Festival Analysis Committee led by Father Doug Papulis, along with clergy and festival chairs from six parishes including our parish of St. Nicholas. The purpose of the committee was to develop profitable ideas for parishes to implement as alternatives to the “traditional” Greek Festivals, in accordance with local guidelines. Each Parish is required to submit their Festival plans, along with a completed COVID safety team checklist, to the Metropolis for approval prior to proceeding.
We have received approval from His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago to move forward with our summer festivals in a creatively modified format. The plan is to offer curbside pick-up ONLY at both the Taste of the Greek Festival at the Family Life Center and the Greek Festival over Labor Day weekend. We are offering a focused menu based on best sellers, profitability and logistics. Patrons order through an online platform that manages incoming orders, secures pre-payment, and tracks inventory.
Our first attempt at curbside pick-up at the Taste of the Greek Festival was a HUGE SUCCESS! Although we faced some challenges on Friday evening, we were able to discuss and make immediate adjustments for the balance of the weekend. Our gross revenue from curbside sales was $50,500. Thank you for your support by volunteering or purchasing food!
As the situation changes day to day, we will keep you informed with the details of the revised format and guidelines. As always, there will be volunteer opportunities at the Greek Festival over Labor Day weekend.
In the meantime, we are continuing to seek monetary donations to help fund the festival expenses. Each year, we receive generous donations from you, our parishioners, that directly affects our net Income. Please make checks payable to St. Nicholas Greek Festival and mail to the Church address.
Thanks for your consideration, generosity and support!

Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society
Philoptochos Prayer O Lord Jesus Christ, we bow our heads before You, and with humble hearts we give thanks to You for the abundant blessings, which You have poured forth upon us. We praise You for gathering us together as members of the Ladies Philoptochos Society in the service to Your Holy Church. We bless You for the selfless sacrifice of countless generations of women who have faithfully fulfilled the philanthropic mission entrusted to them. Through Your ineffable wisdom and Your Divine power, You have enabled us to minister to those who are in need of Your love, Your comfort, and Your care. Make us instruments of Your peace and of Your hope, O Lord. Where there is pain and suffering, may we bring Your healing and comfort. Where there is loneliness and isolation, may we bring the fellowship of Your Holy Church. Where there is despair and discouragement, may we inspire hope and faith in You. Where there is hatred and strife, may we be peacemakers producing the fruits of love and reconciliation.
We also ask You, O Lord, to guide our deliberations, our decisions, our fellowship, and all our labors, so that in all we do, or say, we may bring glory to Your Holy Name, of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
