However as human as we are, we may tend to revert to our comfort zones, to the previous way of life before we encounter Christ. St Peter is one example of this. Jesus made him the rock upon which the Church was to be built. Such was Peters privilege or dignity. Peter promised that he would stay by Jesus no matter what, only to deny the Lord three times on the night of the Passion. And after the death of Jesus, as in the gospel today, Peter said to the other disciples: Im going fishing’, which entails he would like to go back to his old way of life. We know the rest of the story, they caught nothing. The good thing about our God, about Jesus is that once we met him, he will never forget us. He will never abandon us. Even if we sinned against him, he will never write us off. It is we, sometimes who tend to look at another direction. As in the gospel today, Jesus initiated the encounter with his disciples, his third apparition to his disciples after he has risen from the dead. The encounter changed the disillusionment of the disciples of the death of Jesus into a wonderful encounter with the risen Lord over breakfast, prepared by the Lord himself. The encounter with the risen Christ, changed their feeling of loss into a feeling of satisfaction and abundance, and even overflowing of blessings, as symbolized by the many fish they caught. The encounter with Jesus, the risen one, changed Peter from denying Christ before others to be a staunch advocate and a fearless proclaimer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people, regardless of the prohibition of the authorities. Every time we attend Mass or celebrate the Sacraments or help the poor, the weak, the marginalized, we encounter the risen Christ. Are we changed by those encounters by the way we love, the way we care, the way we live? PRAYER OF POPE FRANCIS

God of Joy, the joy of the Gospel is such that it cannot be taken away from us by anyone or anything.

The evils of our world - and those of the Church - must not be excuses for diminishing our commitment and our

fervour. Let us look upon them as challenges which can help us to grow.

With eyes of faith, may we see the light which your Holy Spirit always radiates in the midst of darkness,

remembering that “where sin increased, grace has abounded all the more’. (Rom 5:20).

In our own lives, help us to discern how wine can come from water and how wheat can grow

in the midst of weeds. Let us disagree with prophets of doom,

always forecasting disaster! May we always be confident that, in our times, your

divine Providence is leading us to a new order of human relations, which, by human effort, and even beyond all

expectations, are directed to the fulfilment of your designs.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

[Prayer from Pope Francis’ words ‘The Joy of the Gospel’ (Evangelii Gaudium)]

him back again. Let us never tire of also going out to the other son who stands outside, incapable of rejoicing, in order to explain to him that his judgement is severe and unjust and meaningless in light of the father’s boundless mercy. May confessors not ask useless questions, but like the father in the parable, interrupt the speech prepared ahead of time by the prodigal son, so that confessors will learn to accept the plea for help and mercy pouring from the heart of every penitent. In short, confessors are called to be a sign of the primacy of mercy always, everywhere, and in every situation, no matter what. 18. During Lent of this Holy Year, I intend to send out Missionaries of Mercy. They will be a sign of the Church’s maternal solicitude for the People of God, enabling them to enter the profound richness of this mystery so fundamental to the faith. There will be priests to whom I will grant the authority to pardon even those sins reserved to the Holy See, so that the breadth of their mandate as confessors will be even clearer. They will be, above all, living signs of the Father’s readiness to welcome those in search of his pardon. They will be missionaries of mercy because they will be facilitators of a truly human encounter, a source of liberation, rich with responsibility for overcoming obstacles and taking up the new life of Baptism again. They will be led in their mission by the words of the Apostle: “For God has consigned all men to disobedience, that he may have mercy upon all” (Rom 11:32). Everyone, in fact, without exception, is called to embrace the call to mercy. May these Missionaries live this call with the assurance that they can fix their eyes on Jesus, “the merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God” (Heb 2:17). I ask my brother Bishops to invite and welcome these Missionaries so that they can be, above all, persuasive preachers of mercy. May individual dioceses organize “missions to the people” in such a way that these Missionaries may be heralds of joy and forgiveness. Bishops are asked to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation with their people so that the time of grace made possible by the Jubilee year makes it possible for many of God’s sons and daughters to take up once again the journey to the Father’s house. May pastors, especially during the liturgical season of Lent, be diligent in calling back the faithful “to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace” (Heb 4:16).

ROSTERS

Life’s Like That Praise The Lord!

There was a preacher that was trying to sell his horse. A potential buyer came to the church for a test ride.

"Before you start," the preacher said, "you should know that this horse only responds to church talk. Go is Praise the Lord; and stop is Amen."

So the man on the horse says, "Praise the Lord," and the horse starts to trot. The man again says, "Praise the Lord," and the horse starts to gallop. Suddenly there is a cliff right in front of the horse and the man yells

"Amen!!!" The horse stops just at the edge of the cliff.

The man wipes the sweat from his brow and says, "Praise the Lord."
