Dear Parishioners,
Normally this time of the year we have our Religious Education
volunteer end of the year party. I will miss it. But I do want to
take this time and thank all of our volunteers especially those
involved with the religious education of our children and
adults. I appreciate you sharing your faith. Thanks also to all
of those who do so much around the church and our grounds.
God’s blessings to you.
We also had scheduled eighth grade graduation this week but
it is postponed. It is scheduled for later in the summer. I do
want to say congratulations and I thank you for all that you
did at St. Pius/St Leo School.
We continue to prepare our Church for public Masses. I should
be able to announce next week when we will start. I will
include all the guidelines that we must follow.
Have a great week.

In Pursuit of Life, Love and
Happiness
By: Deacon Jim Shipman
We continue to explore the Gos-
pel of John, Chapter 14 this week.
Again Jesus is teaching the Apos-
tles and us some very important
Theology. Jesus says, “Whoever
loves me will be loved by my Fa-
ther, and I will love him and reveal
myself to him.” We all want close
personal relationship with Our
Lord and that is the key.
Jesus goes on to tell His Disciples
and us that He is going to ask the
Father to send an Advocate, that is
the Holy Spirit that we receive at
Baptism and strengthened in Con-
firmation. That Holy Spirit guilds
us to The Truth, but unfortunately
God’s Truth is not always recog-
nized by the world. Jesus goes on
to say, “On that day you will real-
ize that I Am in My Father and you
are in me and I in you.” Once we
accept this in faith, that’s when we
start building a solid relationship
with Our Lord and He will reveal
himself to us.
Our second reading gives us a
couple of examples on how to let
the Holy Spirit work within our
lives. Peter says in his letter,
“Sanctify Christ as Lord in your
hearts. Always be ready to give
an explanation to anyone who
asks you for a reason for your
hope, but do it with gentleness and
reverence.” When we keep that in
mind and follow the Lord’s teach-
ings, our hearts will burn with
great joy and excitement and we
will be able share the Gospel.
We will begin to understand
God’s Will and do what our Lord
asks of us. Our lives will be
changed forever and those who
we meet will experience God’s
Grace and His Love flowing from
us.
Omaha Gives 2020 Is May 20!
St. Leo Parish is proud to be participating in Omaha
Gives!, a 24-hour charitable challenge organized by
the Omaha Community Foundation. The online giving
holiday will take place May 20 from midnight to mid-
night. Mark your calendars because we will need your
help! We will be joining more than 800 local nonprofits
to raise money together and compete for prize mon-
ey—the more donors we get to give to us, the more
likely we are to win prizes. Save the date for this 24-
hour, online giving event organized by the Omaha Com-
munity Foundation on May 20, 2020! You can schedule
your donation early at www.omahagives.org. Search
for St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.

~ Praying For Vocations ~
Jesus commanded us to pray for vocations with his words, “Pray, there-
fore, the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Mt.
9:38). Take on prayer for vocations as your personal effort to increase
the number of priests, sisters, brothers, deacons, and lay
ministers.

Our Pantry Is Running Low on Soup
We are in need of soup for our pantry. If you can drop off a
few cans, we would appreciate it. At this time, we cannot accept
cream of mushroom or cream of chicken or chicken broth. We
need ready to eat soup. Thanks so much!
Pray the Rosary in the Holy Family Garden
Daily at 6:30pm
May is the month of Mary. For the last few
years, we have been praying the Rosary in the
Holy Family Garden during May. This year we
are praying while we practice social distancing.
Many people find comfort in praying the Ro-
sary. It is a great way to ask for God’s assis-
tance through Mary’s intercession. Mary is the
Patron Saint of the United States. Now is the
time to ask for her help for our country and an
end to the coronavirus. Please join us in praying
the Rosary at 6:30 every night in May. If you
can join us in person that would be great; other-
wise, pray wherever you are. We’ve decided to
focus on an additional intention each day. Be sure to add your own inten-
tions, too. The main intention for every day is for our country and for an
end to the coronavirus.
Monday – For those suffering from illness (mental, emotional, or physical)
Tuesday – For the return of those who have left the Church
Wednesday – For parents and families
Thursday – For those who are isolated in care facilities or at home
Friday – For the health and safety of our workforce
Saturday – For protection from natural disasters/storms
Sunday – For help in hearing what God is saying to us
