ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH
From the Pastor’s Laptop
Father Mark Wagner
“Everything that the Father has is mine.”
These are the words of an heir, a s o n w h o i s confident that he will receive e v e r y t h i n g f r o m h i s father. Jesus at the Last Supper, even though He knew that the following day He would have to obey His Father’s will and accept crucifixion, nevertheless was confident that everything would be His in His Father’s Kingdom. (John 16:12-15)
Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, which celebrates the fact that God is a community of persons, like a family. We celebrate our confidence that we, too, become heirs in our Father’s kingdom, because the Holy Spirit of Adoption makes us also “children of God and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him” (Romans 8:17).

The important thing is that we don’t try to go it alone. We are communal beings created in God’s image for a life of community. That is why Jesus also says in today’s Gospel reading: “He will not speak on His own.” Jesus explains that His Holy Spirit takes from what is his and declares it to us. What belongs to the Father a n d t o t h e S o n i s communicated to us by the Holy Spirit.
Some people are loners and separate themselves from their families and from the family of God. There are men who are not closely united to their wives
“Everything that the Father has is mine”
in communicating the faith to their children, which is why we once again invite men to grow stronger in their faith by attending our Central Valley Men’s Conference on June 11!
“We’re all filled with the Holy Spirit.”

of Memorial Day. Normal daily Mass schedule.

May: Comfort the Afflicted
Come to evening Mass on Wednesdays, when we pray for the intercession of our Mother of Perpetual Help.
Check the front office or our events calendar for meeting/contact
information about groups meeting at St. Joseph’s, including : AA Al Anon (Spanish and English) Alateen Encourage Courage Call “211”, a free and confidential service that helps people find the

Sometimes the people who suffer the most are the ones who suffer in silence. Be a friend to someone and show concern for their well- being. Try to always be a comforting Light of Jesus in the world.
Step in when you see someone being degraded or bullied, and put a stop to it. You can change the course of someone’s life with a simple act of Mercy.
Don’t ignore people; try to be that person who listens when someone
is talking to you about their concerns.
Actions for this month:
It’s a simple concept. Baby bottles filled with coins. That’s the Baby Bottle Campaign. But this simple concept yields impressive results. This change adds
up, and truly changes lives. Through hosting a Baby Bottle Campaign and partnering with Modesto Pregnancy Center, you allow us to continue being
dedicated to protecting the unborn, and providing for those facing an unplanned pregnancy, as well as the many other services we offer.

How can we show others the mercy of God? We say that
God is compassionate, but we ignore the poor. We say that God loves us and has mercy on us, but we hold grudges
against our friends. Our actions need to authentically
reflect God's mercy. Click below to explore the different ways that you can live out that
mercy every day!

Parish Stewardship — a way of life
Marie Fournier Marie Fournier and her h u s b a n d h a v e b e e n parishioners of St. Joseph’s for many years. Among the many ministries in which Marie participates, is serving as a catechist for our children in our Parish School of Religion. Marie has also coordinated the special May session of Sacramental Preparation for First Holy Communion, using a new curriculum and preparing the materials to be used by the small group of catechists during this month.
“Her love for the Lord and for the faith permeates all
that she does in our parish. “
In addition to teaching, Marie also helps with our beautiful F i r s t Ho ly Communion ceremonies. She is a member of the Secular Carmelites and is the current president of the community in Modesto. Marie also serves as a Eucharistic Minister, teaches Lectio Divina (the Reading of Sacred Scripture), for the adults in the RCIA program. Her love for the Lord and for the faith permeates all that she does in our parish. Thank you for your stewardship, Marie!
Our Parish has been “blessed” by the spectacular Blessings Weekend on May 7-8, when we “counted” our blessings, acts of service and enjoyed talented children’s artwork, a delicious
free breakfast that served 550 and heart-warming music by our Children’s Cheribum Choir!
Thanks to the leadership of our Development Committee, over 550 guests were served a delicious pancake breakfast as they enjoyed music, children’s
artwork and the chance to connect with fellow parishioners over a cup of coffee. We are blessed by the leadership of Daniel Del Real, shown here with two of his children. Thank you to Daniel and the
Development Committee for helping us to “count” our parish blessings each year.
