P astoral Reflections Second Sunday of Lent As the season of Lent advances, God reveals him-

self in the Word and defines his relationship with all of us more clearly. In today’s Gospel, God reveals the glory promised to those who are faithful to the Covenant, Jesus remind his apostles that the transfiguration is not an escape from the real world but, rather, a goal that announces the victory of live over death. Life on earth is a journey of suf-fering and of joy, of rejection and misunderstandings, of hope and of success. definir con mas precisión su relación con nosotros. En el Evangelio de hoy, Dios revela la gloria prometida a los que son fieles a la Alianza. Jesús recuerda a los apóstoles que esta experiencia de la transfiguración no es un escape, sino una meta que anuncia la victoria sobre la muerte. La vida terrena es un camino de sufrimientos y de gloria, de rechazos e incomprensiones y de esperanzas y alegría. La fe nos permite afrontar la vida con toda confianza, abra-zándonos a aquel que nos conduce hacia la felicidad eter-na.

February 21, 2016 Second Sunday of Lent Many icons depicting Jesus’ transfiguration bear the Greek title Metamorphosis, a technical term also for nature’s springtime transformation. Fittingly, this Jubilee Year of Mercy coincides with the Lection-ary’s Year of Luke, for only Luke specifies Moses and Elijah speaking about Jesus’ “exodus that he was go-ing to accomplish in Jerusalem” (Luke 9:31). Israel’s exodus liberated from slavery; Jesus’ exodus liber-ates from sin’s living death of selfishness. Pope Francis suggests that Lent’s prayer, fasting, and works of charity can transfigure the world, if Christians translate Isaiah’s challenge into our daily lived experience of Jesus’ life-giving exodus by releasing those bound un-justly, setting free the oppressed, sharing your bread with the hungry, bringing the afflicted and homeless into your house, clothing the naked, not turning your back on your own. “If you remove from your midst op-pression, and malicious speech . . . then light shall rise for you in the darkness . . . you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose water never fails” (Isaiah 58:9, 10, 11). —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. Casualmente, este Año Jubilar de la Miseri-cordia coincide con el Año C en el que los domingos se lee el Evangelio de Lucas, además solamente Lucas menciona que Moisés y Elías “hablaban del éxodo de Jesús, que él estaba a punto de cumplir en Jerusalén” (Lucas 9:31). El éxodo de Israel liberó de la esclavitud; el éxodo de Jesús libera de la muerte en vida del pecado del egoísmo.
