Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 1, 2017 Have in you the same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus. — Philippians 2:5

October is St. John’s month to staff the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen at Christ Lutheran Church in Woodstock.

Soup, bread, beverages and dessert are served. Soup is prepared by area restau-rants and bread is donated by local estab-lishments. We are very fortunate that the DBSK now has “permanent volunteers: on Mondays (thanks to John Mocarski and his daughter) and Wednesdays. So,

barring any unforeseen changes or emergencies, we are actually only looking for Friday volunteers from 3:30-6:15 pm. Volunteers are needed to do the following: ♦ Pick up the soup from area restaurants and deliver it

to the Christ Lutheran Church by 3:45. ♦ 2 adults (and 1 CCD student) are needed to set up,

serve and cleanup. (No heavy lifting required!) (Only 1 CCD student per shift…and only with parental per-mission, please.)

♦ We can also use substitutes, because emergencies do happen. There will be a spot for you to sign up if you’d like to be called as a substitute throughout the year.

If you have any questions, please call Barbara Runz at 973-222-5489.

C E L E B R A T I N G T H E 1 0 0 T H A N N I V E R S A R Y O F OUR LADY OF FATIMA APPARITIONS This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Blessed Virgin Mary appearing to three little shepherds in the small town of Fatima, Portugal. Our Lady en-trusted to them a message for the world: pray for world peace and the con-version of sinners, bring-ing requests for penance, prayer and a devotion to her Immaculate Heart. Mary’s requests are as relevant today as they were in the troubled times of 1917.

Join us after 5pm Mass on Saturday, October 14th for a Candlelight Procession to Our Lady’s Grotto to pray the Rosary for world peace and the conversion of sinners.

GOD’S WAYS In the stream of readings during this portion of Ordi-nary Time one week’s texts can often appear to pick up exactly where the previous week’s concluded. The senti-ments expressed in today’s first reading seem to be a di-rect reaction to the Gospel passage we heard last week. In that Gospel, the landowner pays the same wages to his workers whether they worked for a full day or for only a few minutes. Today Ezekiel gives us the lament, “The LORD’s way is not fair!”(Ezekiel 18:25). These Sundays in Ordinary Time offer us a glimpse into the ways of the Lord. We see how God’s way has the tendency to turn the accepted conventions of the day upside down. Those who always expected that their way to heaven was guaranteed are disappointed. Those who thought they never had a chance are given that chance. Today offers us another opportunity to discover the abundance of God’s mercy and love. ~Father George
