Mulligan, William Goff, Alice Fahmie, Tom Averill, and Barbara
Sweeney each for $100. The winner of $500 was Nora Drefin,
and the $1,000 winner was Patricia Moore. Nancy Ducas won the
$300 Gas Card and dinner for two. Angela Houlihan won $200 in
the 50/50. We thank all the committee members and the

WHEELBARROW DAY– At 10:00 AM on Saturday,
September 30th, Deacon Bob Cranston is asking for
some help to move the pile of chips in the parking lot
onto the contemplative walk that is being built in the
woods right behind the parking lot. If we can get at least four
people to shovel, 10-15 wheelbarrows, and two to four people to
rake, with a few extra people to take turns at each position, I think
we can have the pile and the path taken care of in a few hours. If
you have a wheelbarrow, it would be appreciated if you could
bring it. Come on out for some exercise and fun, and see the new
contemplative walk.
PARISH COUNCIL– Will be meeting on Wednesday,

THE TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in the Good God,
I am writing this letter to you on Sunday evening,
September 17th. We just had a very eventful weekend for our
parish. On Saturday, September 16th, we had the largest turnout for
Junk in the Trunk as far as sellers and, thanks to the members of
the Advisory Committee for Parish Development and several other
terrific parishioners, we had the biggest amount of funds raised for
the parish in the 11 Junk in the Trunks so far: approximately
$1,700. I want to thank, ever so much, anyone and everyone who
made this most recent Junk in the Trunk so successful!!!
On Sunday, September 17th, we had the All-Day
Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament and I wish to express
my deepest gratitude to all of you who spent time with Our Lord
in the Eucharist!!!
We also had a very successful 20-Week Club Dinner at
Anthony’s. I want to thank wholeheartedly the entire 20-Week
Club Committee and other wonderful parishioners plus all the
members who made this most recent 20-Week Club such a great
fun and fund raiser!!!
This weekend, September 23rd and 24th, at the homily
time, I will give a very brief homily and then use the next ten to
twelve minutes to give to you the seventh annual State of the
Parish Address. I wish to thank you in advance for your kind
attention concerning our parish: primarily spiritually (our parish
mission is the same as the Church’s mission universally: THE
SALVATION OF SOULS) and secondarily the temporal aspects
of our parish. I also request that you take a copy of this bulletin
home with you to review our financial summary from the past
fiscal year that ended on August 31st. I CONTINUE TO SAY
THAT YOU ARE THE MOST GENEROUS FOLKS THAT I
HAVE EVER KNOWN; YOU ARE GENEROUS BY GIVING
OF YOURSELVES, YOUR TIME, YOUR TALENTS, AND
TREASURES; YOU REALLY LOVE YOUR PARISH.
I am deeply grateful to you. In terms of our Religious
Education (Faith Formation) Program, on Monday, September
25th, Joan Corton, our Coordinator, will be conducting a Bible
Paraliturgy for the 6th and 4th Graders while I will be hearing
Confessions (the Sacrament of Penance/Reconciliation) for the 5th
and 3rd Graders. I have decided to double the number of times that
I will be hearing Confessions for the children throughout the year
to show how important it is to participate in this Sacrament; my
hope and my prayer that all of our parishioners will take advantage
of the Sacrament more frequently. Please note that I hear
Confessions from 3:30 until 4:30 P.M. every Saturday afternoon
and ANY TIME, DAY OR NIGHT, UPON REQUEST.
The Parish Council will meet this coming Wednesday
evening, September 27th, at 6:30 P.M., in the Church Hall; you are
most welcome to attend and participate in the meeting.
On Saturday, September 30th, at the 5:00 P.M. Holy
Mass, I will be presenting to the parish the children preparing for
First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion plus the young
people who are preparing for Confirmation. Also, I will be
commissioning the Catechists who teach the children and young
people the Catholic Faith. The 5 P.M. Holy Mass will be the
conclusion of Confirmation Preparation Day that afternoon which
starts with my hearing their Confessions as the best way to prepare
their souls to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the state of
sanctifying grace on Sunday, October 8th.
Next Sunday, October 1st, begins Respect Life Month by
celebrating Respect Life Sunday. I invite as many of you as
possible to join me in the Life Chain, a legal, peaceful, and
prayerful way to show our commitment to the sacredness of the
5th, 6th, and 9th Commandments of God; it will be on Ulster
Avenue from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M.
Also on that day, I will bless pets at 11:45 A.M. in the
parking lot and I will conduct the Instructional Prayer Meeting in
the Chapel from 12 Noon until 1 P.M.; the topic is: “Why Respect
Life Month?”
Sincerely, with prayers,
Father Bill Woodruff
P.S.: Father Al and Father Bill send their prayerful best.
RECOVERY SUNDAY– Today our parish is celebrating
Recovery Sunday. We wish to affirm and pray for all those
individuals and their families who are struggling with and in
recovery from addictive illnesses. There are many addictive
illnesses, including addictions to alcohol, drugs, gambling, and
pornography. Please join us today as we pray for healing, health,
and freedom for all those affected by addictions.
INSTRUCTIONAL PRAYER MEETING- Will take place
October 1st at noon. The topic of discussion is “Why Respect
Life Month?”. Come learn more about your Catholic Faith. This
discussion will be led by Fr. Bill. Question and Answer period to
follow.
LIFE CHAIN 2017- The Life Chain is schedule for October 1st.
Stand up for the unborn who have died and for those who
continue to die every day to the horror of abortion. All are urged
to meet from 2 to 3 PM on Ulster Avenue in Saugerties to make
an outward sign of your commitment to life. If you would like to
meet at St. John’s parking lot first, come at 1:30 PM.
BLESSING OF ANIMALS- Will take place on October 1st, in
honor of the Feast of Francis of Assisi, at 11:45 AM in the church
parking lot.
SPECIAL COLLECTION- There will be a second collection
next weekend for St. Joseph’s Seminary. Your financial
assistance will enable us to continue our policy of removing
tuition obstacles for men studying for the priesthood at St.
Joseph’s Seminary. His Holiness Pope John Paul II reminded us
that the seminary is “the single most important verification of the
vital church.” Please give generously.
PUBLIC ROSARY RALLY– Will be held on Saturday, October
7th at the Knights of Columbus Parking Lot on Route 9W in
Saugerties at noon. In the historic year of the Fatima Centennial
(1917-2017), please join us to “Pray for Peace” through praying
the Rosary of His Most Holy Mother. Please contact Anita Yates
at 246-4016 or Joyce Brazier at 246-8949 for more information.
This event is being sponsored by St. Mary/St. Joseph Rosary
Society together with the Columbiettes.
PRAYER FOR LIFE
Jesus, Mary and Joseph we love you very much.
Help us spiritually adopt and protect all human life
from preborn to natural death.
Amen.
