Minot Catholic School News Scrip Profit Report: Bishop Ryan Catholic School earned $17,606.58 in Scrip rebates from October through December, 2017. Out of that total, $7,923.00 was credited toward fami-ly tuitions; the remainder is for the school's use. Thank you to those who purchase Scrip regularly. We encourage everyone to use Scrip gift cards for all your purchases of groceries, gas, household items, dining out, remodeling or building, or as gifts. Using Scrip helps lower tuition amounts and supports Bishop Ryan at the same time. The Scrip Program is such an easy fundraiser! You're shopping anyway for groceries, filling gas, eating out, buying household supplies, and the list goes on - why not use Scrip? By using Scrip, you’re supporting our Catholic school (a mission to our par-ish), and you're not at risk for credit card fraud. For those of you who are new to this, Scrip is using gift cards to pay for your purchases. Scrip is sold in the Bishop Ryan administration office, after the weekend Masses at all four parishes, and in the parish offices.

Living Stewardship In today’s first reading, we hear Samuel respond ea-gerly, “Here I am!” each time the Lord calls him. May we, too, be listening for the call of God in our lives and be ready to say like the Psalmist,

“Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.”

Pray for Our Military We pray for our troops and their families, for their many sacrifices, and for their safety. Every Friday, red, white and blue candles burn in St. John’s for all our mili-tary and veterans.

FORMATION

January 14, 2018 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

From The Pastor Happy New Year to all! I pray that this note finds you feeling abundantly blessed by God. A couple of months ago I spoke about discerning the gifts that God has given to each of us, and praying about how each of us will share our time and talent with our parish family. Now we are to make our commitment of treasure! I ask each one of us to intentionally place our financial commitment to God and His Church at the top of our priorities. I offer you my deepest gratitude for all that you have done, are doing and will do for our parish family. We depend on everyone’s generosity to thrive as God’s children. The following explains an objective layout and definition financial component of stewardship. God calls us to respond to His generous blessings with a joyful return of 10% from our first fruits. • Our parish is living the life of stewardship by making a 10% tithe to our Bishop/Diocese each month. The parish tithe is split: one-half of the 10% goes toward our God’s Share and the other half is distributed among our nine national collections. • By committing 3% of annual income for charities of your choice and by making a 7% commitment of treas-ure to our parish family, one is considered a full stew-ard. Your 7% is covering the Diocesan collections, tui-tion, heat, electricity, employee and priest payroll, and all other normal needs of the parish. • When a person/family chooses to tithe at “7% or greater,” you are verifying that you are giving a full tithe to your parish, 7%, and at least 3% to the poor (charities of your own choosing). Thus, you will not be expected to be assessed for the above listed items but can always give more if you desire to. Making our financial commitment helps the parish plan and budget for the future needs and avoid capital campaigns of sorts. (Cont. in next column)

(Pastor cont.)

• When a person/family chooses to tithe at lower than 7% but are working towards 7%”, you are giving the most you are able to at the current time to your parish and the poor; while working and praying to be at 10% (7%-parish; 3%-poor) within the next year or two. You will not be assessed typical fees such as CCD tuition, but will remain on the God’s Share mailing list. • When a person/family does not intentional deter-mine a percentage tithe and/or does not fill out a fi-nancial commitment form, things will remain as it has been in the past. Making our financial commitment helps the parish plan and budget for the future needs and avoid capital campaigns of sorts. It also helps families to budget as well as receive the benefits that come with charitable donations. May God’s blessing be upon you all

His mercy endures forever ✝ Fr. David Richter
