Journey Together with SJVMM

A Prayer to the Eternal High Priest

Christ Renews His Parish O Jesus, eternal Priest, keep your priests within

the shelter of your most Sacred Heart, where

none can touch them. Keep unstained their

anointed hands, which daily touch

your Sacred body. Keep unsullied

their lips daily tinged with your

Precious Blood. Keep pure and unworldly their

hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of the

priesthood. Let your Holy Love surround and

protect them from the world’s contagion. Bless

their labors with abundant fruit, and may the

souls to whom they minister be their joy and con-

solation here, and their everlasting crown in the

hereafter. Amen.

—St. Therese of the Child Jesus

We give thanks to God for the 21st anniversary

our beloved pastor, Father John Blum.

Men and Women are from Eden (CD) God’s design for life, love, relationships and sex

is written into our very bodies.

With incredible clarity, Dr. Mary

Healy explains how the Theology

of the Body, Pope St. John Paul II’s

deeply biblical understanding of

Our Lord’s original plan for men and women, is

astonishingly good news for a culture littered

with broken marriages, immorality, heartache,

and loneliness. Various CD’s, booklets and/or books are available

in the main entrance of the church. We kindly ask

for a $2 donation for each booklet, $3 donation for

each CD and $5 for each book to continue this

ministry. Please make checks payable to St. John

Vianney. For more information, contact the parish

office at 360.1147, ext. 233.

Come Holy Spirit

Replace the tension within us

with the gift of your peace.

Replace the anxiety within us

with your calm presence.

Replace the weakness within us

with your strength.

Replace the doubts within us

with a strong faith in Christ Jesus.

Replace the bitterness within us

with the sweetness of grace.

Replace the darkness within us

with your gentle lights.

Replace the coldness within us

with your loving warmth.

Replace the night within us

with your day.

Replace the winter within us

with your spring.

Straighten our crookedness.

Fill our emptiness.

Dull the edge of our pride.

Sharpen the edge of our humility.

Light the fire of your love within us.

Quench the flames of our lust.

O Spirit of God

the Lord Jesus Christ instructed us

to pray and await your coming.

You are the Father’s great gift to us who believe.

Strengthen, heal and transform us

by the power of your presence.

Come Holy Spirit!

Screening and Training of Personnel Who Work with Children

Safe Environment Program Did you know that all Catholic

school personnel in the Diocese of

St. Petersburg are screened for

their ability to work safely with

children, are provided information

and training to help them recognize

and deal with issues of child sexual abuse, and are

offered guidance and instruction on appropriate

professional conduct with students? The same is

true for all employees and volunteers who are

given the care, responsibility and/or supervision

of children, youth or vulnerable adults. Likewise, all seminarians and candidates for the

diaconate go through extensive evaluation and

psychological assessment before entering for-

mation. After ordination, priests and deacons

receive ongoing training on maintaining the

integrity of the ministerial relationship. If you would like more information, please call

the Safe Environment Program Manager, at

727.344.1611, ext. 5377.

As you consider career paths, have you thought

about participating in a life-altering year of

full-time service that will bring you many new

opportunities? We have multiple volunteer

positions open for our 2017-2018 service year

which begins in August. Apply now if you are

ready for a year that will change your life!

Applicants should have a college degree and a

heart for serving marginalized communities in

Florida or the Dominican Republic. We provide volunteers with free housing, health

insurance and even a monthly stipend for living

expenses during one service year. Close to 65%

of our volunteers are offered employment after

the year so it’s also a great way to find the right

opportunity for your future. Application dead-

line is May 31, 2017. To learn more or to start an

application, go to www.cvif.org.

for your generosity in donating your

extra religious articles. These articles

supplies are running low. The basket is located

in the church vestibule.

Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute

Is God Calling You to Serve as a Lay Ecclesial

Minister in His Church? Jesus said, And I will ask the Father,

and he will give you another Advocate

to be with you always.

—John 14:16 Effective lay ecclesial ministers need more than

a heart for ministry; they also need personal and

spiritual maturity, knowledge of theology and

other disciplines and pastoral skills. Lay ministers

need and deserve a formation program with high

standards, effective methods and comprehensive

goals. This is what we, here in the diocese, work

hard to offer to you with the Lay Pastoral Ministry

Institute. Classes begin on September 9, 2017. Anyone interested in attending the LPMI Year of

Discernment monthly sessions, can find more

details on the LPMI web site www.dosp.org/lpmi.

You many also contact the LPMI office at the

Pastoral Center at 727.344.1611, or send an email

to [email protected]. Ask yourself: Am I willing to step out of my

“comfort zone” and trust the Spirit to provide

the wisdom and strength I would need to pursue

theological studies?

Annual Pastoral Appeal Prayer Father of all, You have entrusted your world to

us as a gift. Awaken our praise

and thankfulness for all that you

have made. Give us the grace to nourish our

relationships with You, ourselves, one another

and all of creation. Help us to imitate your love for the human

family by recognizing that we are all connected.

Inspire us to protect all life and to prepare for a

future filled with justice, peace, beauty and love. Lord, You breathe life into us. Guide us to live

according to your vision. Stir us into action,

that we will be a source of hope and life for

the people of our generation and those who

will follow. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we lift up this prayer

to you, our Father, through Jesus Christ, your

Son and our Lord. Amen.

Enthrone Jesus as King of Your Home

Legion of Mary The Enthronement of the Sacred

Heart in the family is recognition

of Jesus as King of the family. By acknowledging Him as our King,

we become His loyal subjects through love.

We are reminded by the picture of His heart,

given at the Enthronement, that He rules over

our home and over the world through his great

love for us. This beautiful ceremony takes place at the home

of the family, and all members of the family

participate. The ceremony consists of special

prayers, presentation of a plaque of the Sacred

Heart, the Blessed Mother, and a certificate of

Enthronement, ending with the blessing of the

home by Fr. Blum or Fr. Emery. The Legion of Mary will help in the preparation

of this ceremony, and representatives of the

Legion of Mary will attend the ceremony.

There is no preparation required by the family. For more information, please contact

Joan Romanello at 363.6240.

Memorial Day Mass

Calvary Catholic Cemetery Memorial Day has always been special at Calvary

Catholic Cemetery. It is the only cemetery serving

the five-county Diocese of St. Petersburg where

the true fullness of freedom—both sacred and

secular—are observed on this national holiday. On Monday, May 29th at 10 a.m., Bishop Gregory

L. Parkes and other priests of the Diocese of

St. Petersburg, will gather at the outdoor altar

to celebrate the holy sacrifice of the Mass—a

memorial of the death and resurrection of Jesus

who freed mankind from the bonds of sin—and

to remember, honor and pray for those who have

maintained the freedoms that we enjoy as United

States citizens. Calvary Catholic Cemetery
