HOOPER, III, RECTOR Position Description Assistant Rector (Full-time) St. James’s Episcopal Church, a vibrant and growing parish, seeks a dynamic assistant to work as part of a highly collaborative staff of clergy and lay people. Qualifications: Is an ordained Episcopal priest or transitional deacon Thrives in a high-energy, active environment Has strong communication skills, including written, spoken and social media Is passionate about, youth and family ministry, Christian outreach, pastoral care, liturgy and preaching Has a loving and compassionate nature that plays out in parish and community life Is collegial in every way; a team player; collaborative Most importantly, has a deep personal commitment to Christ, the Mission of God and to the growth and fellowship of the Church. Responsibilities: Liturgical: share in liturgical duties on Sundays, holy days, and weekdays; officiating and assisting at weddings, funerals and other services. Pastoral: share in hospital and nursing home visitations; pastoral and premarital conversations, in consultation with the Rector and pastoral visitors. Teaching: work with Rector, Director of Youth and Family Ministries, and lay leadership in the development of Christian Education offerings. Administrative: work with Parish Administrator, Sexton, Vestry and Rector to ensure efficient and effective stewardship of church facilities, staff time, and other parish resources. Special Areas of Responsibility: The Assistant Rector, in addition to all general responsibilities, will have direct responsibility for the areas of Youth and Family Ministries, the parish’s social media presence, pastoral care to the senior parishioners, and Adult Formation program development.
