First, I am going to re-start the yoga class on February 1 st with some winter exercises in our spa- cious sanctuary. My class will include tiger-walk, before and after movement of breathing, and breathing with con- centration on the lower abdomen. Will yoga help us with our holistic health? I would like to answer like Jesus: “your faith has you made well.” With faith it will, and with doubt people will drop out. Like Jesus I would like to say: “come and see!” My yoga class will give you time for body, mind and soul. Second, our church will go through the process of revitali- zation with of a conference recommended consultant. It will take several months to half a year to get an assessment of which you will play a vital role. According to our statistics, our church has declined in diverse ways, such as service attend- ance, activities, finances, and spirits. When we don’t feel so good, we seek help from friends or doctors. Likewise, I believe that, “The time is fulfilled, and the King- dom of God has come near.” (Mark 1:15) The time has come for us to consider maintenance survival, either growth or continued gradual decline. The kingdom of St James needs to compare and contrast with the kingdom of God which was, is, and will be forever and ever. The Kingdom of God is where God is our king, leader, master, savior, CEO. Every- thing. As a part of God’s kingdom we need to evaluate, re- flect, and repent. There are so many verbs which start with re: re-start, re- juvenate, re-create, re-new, re-form, re-view and so on and so forth. Repent includes all the above ‘re’ verbs. We need to look at ourselves from the mirror of God. Its core is in the interpretation or decoding of the Kingdom of God that Jesus proclaimed, taught, and lived. During this revitalization pro- cess we need to pray to the Lord, “Come and open us to your kingdom and help us to repent and re-build your king- dom at St James, not a kingdom for our satisfaction, fame, and entertainment.” Third, time hasn’t stop for a minute. The earth continues to roll around the sun. We will soon be into the season of Lent. Ash Wednesday is February 14. I am planning to have a joint service with Zion Korean UMC and Oneida UMC on Ash Wednesday, here at St James. This will begin with our tradi- tional pot luck meal at 6 p.m. and worship at 7 p.m. We will experience a varied menu, including Korean kimchi, and Oneida tacos. Mid-week services will be available during lent for you to attend in Oneida on Wednesday evenings from Feb. 21 to March 21 at 6 p.m. . Pastor’s letter is continued on page 2

Pastors report Dongsu Lee

Dongsu has spent the last 6 months listening and learning He has been in prayer and is studying how we can revi-

talize and renew He is happy to be a part of the process

SPRC Gary Linstad

Gary reported that the organist position has been filled by Linda Lee They are still actively seeking a choir director

Consultant Jim Hicks explained a bit about his background and the process involved in beginning our revitalization

process This process will begin by involving the entire congregation participating in an on-line assessment (not a

survey) For those who do not have access to a computer one will be provided for use at the church or a paper

copy will be provided for them All information will be kept confidential This process with tell us where we are on

the map and help us to figure out what direction we need to go next so we may continue our journey He will al-

so be doing extensive interviews with about 10 people

The committee voted to bless this process More information will be sent to members soon
