ARTIST OF THE WEEK

Isaac Saye: 5th grade student

Project: “Counterchange” Isaac and his classmates reviewed the Element of Design called space. Isaac used positive and negative space to cre-ate a symmetrically balanced face. He used the LIFESKILLS of Effort and Patience to create his artwork. Isaac carefully drew half of his design and cut the small pieces apart. Lastly, he decided which parts to flip and create the counterchange effect. Creative work, Isaac!

WINTER WEATHERWINTER WEATHERWINTER WEATHERWINTER WEATHER As we approach the winter weather, we would like to share some information regarding our pro-cedures for school cancellations. As part of our school information system, MSP (MyStudentsProgress) offers a notification system, via voice/text, that we can use for schedule changes, such as a weather can-cellation. It is important that your MSP in-formation is correct.

In addition, you can listen or watch for St. James Catholic School-Liberty for posted closings. We do NOT follow the Liberty Public School announcements of school closings. We will provide our own announcement on numerous radio and tele-vision stations. If electricity is not an issue, our website will post our school closing. For your convenience this proce-dure is listed in our handbook (page 37) on MSP.

Once our school day has begun, we will NOT dismiss early due to weather condi-tions. We will finish the remainder of the school day and provide extended care. If you feel the need to pick your student up due to weather conditions please feel free to do so.

Thanksgiving Blood Drive! Thanksgiving Blood Drive! Thanksgiving Blood Drive! Thanksgiving Blood Drive! Before you carve that turkey or bake those pies this Thanksgiving, join us for a Community Blood Center blood drive and help local patients enjoy the holiday with their families too. St. James is hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, November 24th in the social hall from 12:30 PM-7:00 PM. Appointments are highly recommended and can be made at www.savealifenow.org using sponsor code ‘stjames’ or by contacting Nikki Power at [email protected] or 816-407-1208.

Walk-ins are also welcome and free childcare is provided to donors. All donors will receive a commemorative KC Chiefs t-shirt that says Chiefs Nation Cares. Service hours are avail-able to middle school students, but sign up is required. A sign-up sheet can be found in Kara Brown’s room or you can contact Nikki to volunteer. Thank you for supporting the blood drives here at St. James!

Box Tops & Labels for Education Thanksgiving is almost here! Don’t forget when you are shopping to look for Box Top and Labels for Education products. These include such necessities as Land O’ Lakes butter, Campbell’s soup, Gold Medal flour, Green Giant vegetables, Ziploc products and many others that are needed for your holiday. Also, please remember that we are participating in Tyson’s program also. It appears that the Tyson products at Sam’s and Costco do not have the Project A+ labels, but most of the products at the grocery stores do. Have a very happy Thanksgiving!
