x ST HELENS PRIMARY Friday 22nd May 2020 Dear Parents and Carers, Thank you for your continue support. The teachers, parents and children continue to work extremely well in these unusual times to great effect. I continue to be impressed with the variety and quality of the work on show. After half term we will invite more children back to school after a lengthy break. I’m sure they will enjoy meeting up with their friends and teachers again (from a distance of course). I have sent a letter to everyone and our school action plan/risk assessment is now on the website. Obviously things at school will be very different for both children and staff. If your child is returning after a significant absence, please discuss the arrangements we will have in place. Any children not attending, will continue to receive work from the teachers which I’m sure you will provide help with as necessary This week’s easy listening tunes move up tempo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xg5D73E7Zqw&t=132s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOWDb2TBYDg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RP19fnff_c Corona Virus Updates https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus Stay Alert – Control the virus – Stay alive Do not leave home if you or someone you live with has any of the following: a high temperature a new, continuous cough a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste Check the NHS website if you have symptoms

Dear Parents and Carers, Thank you for your continue support. The teachers, parents and children continue to work extremely well in these unusual times to great effect. I continue to be impressed with the variety and quality of the work on show. After half term we will invite more children back to school after a lengthy break. Stay alert We can all help control the virus if we all stay alert. This means you must:

stay at home as much as possible

work from home if you can

limit contact with other people

keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible)

wash your hands regularly

Do not leave home if you or anyone in your household has symptoms.

Contact Tracking App

With Britain in lockdown, the Government has been racing to find ways to ease restrictions without putting public safety at risk. One solution is a contact-tracing app that can enable digital contact-tracing on a large scale. On May 4, the government revealed further details of the app, which will be tested on the Isle of Wight and then launched to the rest of the UK, if it proves successful. The app goes live on the island on May 5. How do I install the app?

The NHS COVID-19 App currently only works on the Isle of Wight. More information can be found here: https://covid19.nhs.uk/isle-of-wight.html

You should only download the app, when available, from official stores:

iOS - https://www.apple.com/uk/ios/app-store/

Google play - https://play.google.com/store Teacher Comments

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all well and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Show and tell: It has been great to see the show and tells have started to appear on our

stream-well done Sami and Evie! Children can share anything e.g. a favourite toy,

something they have made, their garden, or a pet. Please encourage your children to ask,

type and respond to questions as it’s a great chance for them to work on and gain

confidence with their typing skills. Please continue to add show and tells over the next

week, if you want to add more than one then that is great!

You can see that I have added the new topic and science grids for the next half term. I

have also added the English, maths and phonics work for the w/c 1st June, please do not

start it until then as I will not post the next set of work until the w/c 8th June. Please have

a break from school work over the half term holiday, I am sure you all need some rest

time.

If you have any questions or need help with learning resources then please contact me

via email.

Finally, please say hello to all the children from me, I miss them all and hope that they

are being very well behaved at home!

Best wishes,

Mrs Rees

Hello Children, Parents and Carers,

I will not be setting work over half term apart from

1. A Take Home Task

2. A book to read in preparation for next half term………. namely The

Iron Man by Ted Hughes. (This is not a long book; I suggest you aim to

read a chapter a day)

Please see attached to this email instructions for the take Home Task and the

book. I will also post the tasks in the Google Classroom. After half-term I will continue to post work in the google classroom every week.

At some point, I really am hoping to see you all and looking forward to this day

very much.

Please take care

Mrs Maloney

one minute - and we

Mrs Leslie

I hope everyone has a lovely half term break and manages to get out in the sunshine and fresh air. Ben has worked really hard this week and has created a wonderful character following my google classroom story. Logan has sent some wonderful photos of the activities he has been up to in the past few weeks -seeing them really brightened my day. Emily has continued to work her socks off this week and her writing is coming on a treat. She is such a hard worker! George SH has been working on his technology skills using his iPad for Alphablocks. I also had a wonderful video call with Micah M this week. He showed me the amazing mouse house he has been working on and we came up with a few more ideas for it. I have sensed a bit of a “bug” theme in lots of the activities I am seeing on Tapestry, Facebook and Google Classroom so I have uploaded lots of bug related activities to keep you all busy during the week. Please stay safe Mrs Lacey

Children’s Comments "18/05 we have been doing lots of gardening and have seen our seeds grow. We have learnt about protecting young plants from frost, how to harden off seedlings and have been able to pick and eat some of our salad crops. Thank you very much Miss Yardley, I liked writing the story. " "I would like to take part if I can. I loved being in the plays at my old school." "I found it difficult when you had to answer some of them because I sometimes thought that you had to say which

train station when they wanted to know what time she would get there."

"9/10" Parents comments "Needless to say Theo very much enjoyed division last week...we decided to dig out 50 hot wheels cars...Theo put them into

groups to help find the answers "

"That made Sami want to have a barbecue!"

Hannah really enjoyed symmetry so we went on a (socially distancing) field trip to spot ten symmetrical things."

Pippa has had a really fun morning learning with weights. She even weighed her and Daisy's guinea pigs...they're on her recording sheet!" "Daisy enjoyed practising the FROG method with me and had to think carefully about place value." He particularly liked measuring items around the house, mainly his brother!"

Over the last few weeks Reuben’s been helping to keep an eye on the garden - helping to water, sow seeds and thin out. He’s been learning a new knot, the non-slip knot. He and his sister enjoyed making pizza from scratch. He’s been keeping up his swimming skills in the sea and really enjoys snorkelling and paddle boarding; today he saw a bass whilst out snorkelling. He and his sister have been crabbing and also made a garden game of Scrabble from beach stones we collected. Reuben’s reading a lot and has finished his second Alex Rider novel. On IXL he’s been enjoying some year 7 maths and completed some tricky tasks in Roman Numerals today.

"Pippa made a treasure hunt for Daisy using compass points - she was very happy to find the chocolate treasure!"

This morning we are learning outside in the sunshine; Reuben is doing his classroom maths and Jemima is doing Oak National Academy and all is peaceful and relaxed. Today we learnt about Native Americans, and made our very own talking sticks! I’m not sure the concept will work so

well if they all have a stick Nevertheless, it has been a great opportunity to learn about respecting others opinions and only talking after you have listened to the other persons viewpoint. It led to some great discussions "Josiah worked really hard using the arrow cards to partition, he was so pleased to solve these additions using the

arrow cards."

"Harry enjoyed watching the natural habits video and is learning the recycle song! Harry has also remembered to fill the bird

feeder trays and leave water for the birds in the garden." PET OF THE WEEK (TRICK)

Design and Technology

A blast from the past ICT

Bees make nests/hives, they live in these hives and also make honey.

HONEY

Honey is tasty and antiseptic.

Honey can be used in lots of things such as

Toast, sandwiches and chocolate.

Bees have five eyes and six legs The members of the hive are divided into three types: Queen, Workers, and

Drones

Bees can see all colours except red. That and their sense of smell help them find the flowers they need to collect

pollen. There are more than 20,000 species of bees

Thank you Daniel The Gardening Club Theo, Ellie and Alba inspiring others to grow their own
