As a Catholic community, our first response in times of tragedy is to turn to God in prayer; prayer for the victims and their families; prayer for safety and security in our schools; prayer for peaceful hearts; prayer for tolerance and celebration of diversity in our world. In these times of challenge, we teach our children, and remind ourselves, that Jesus calls us to be His light as instruments of goodness in our world. On Wednesday, we will gather as a community to pray a Rosary for Peace at 2 PM on the promenade outside the library. I encourage all students to bring their rosary beads and invite parents to join us in prayer. On a practical note, please be assured that safety and security procedures are a priority for administration, faculty, and staff at our school. Our students respond quickly and appropriately during all safety drills. Lockdown drills incorporating a variety of scenarios are our current focus. Our Crisis Response Plan incorporates a campus-wide surveillance system including 34 cameras, monitored in both the elementary and preschool offices; all staff members carry a “panic fob”, which is directly linked to the SD Police Department; all staff members carry two -way radios linked to our dedicated FCC frequency. We can never be complacent and must always be prepared. I highly recommend continuing the conversation about safety and security at home, so that our children can be empowered to respond appropriately and safely at any given time, in any given place. We continue to pray for God’s blessing and protection. Mrs. O’Connell Rosary Circle: During Lent consider gather- ing Thursday mornings aſter assembly to pray the rosary at the groo or in the li- brary. It only takes about 20 minutes and it is a great way to start your day. Deacon Ron visited Mrs. Miller’s 2nd grade.

As we begin the fourth week in the

Lenten season, our thoughts turn to

God’s unconditional love for us, as

manifested in sending Jesus to be

our savior. Our students have the

opportunity this week to experience the loving forgiveness of

God in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Spiritual self-

improvement, through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving is our

Lenten goal. This beautiful sacrament allows us a reset, an

opportunity to renew and recommit to living in the footsteps of

Jesus.

In his letter to the Ephesians, St. Paul remarks: “Brothers and

Sisters, you are in the Light of the Lord. Live as children of

Light, for light produces every kind of goodness and truth.”

(Eph. 5:8-10). This week students in schools across our nation will

participate in a symbolic “Walk Out” in remembrance of the

seventeen victims of gun violence at Stoneman Douglas High

School in Florida. As a Catholic community, our first response

in times of tragedy is to turn to God in prayer; prayer for the

victims and their families; prayer for safety and security in our

schools; prayer for peaceful hearts; prayer for tolerance and

celebration of diversity in our world. In these times of

challenge, we teach our children, and remind ourselves, that

Jesus calls us to be His light as instruments of goodness in our

world. On Wednesday, we will gather as a community to pray a

Rosary for Peace at 2 PM on the promenade outside the library.

I encourage all students to bring their rosary beads and invite

parents to join us in prayer.

On a practical note, please be assured that safety and security

procedures are a priority for administration, faculty, and staff at

our school. Our students respond quickly and appropriately

during all safety drills. Lockdown drills incorporating a variety

of scenarios are our current focus. Our Crisis Response Plan

incorporates a campus-wide surveillance system including 34

cameras, monitored in both the elementary and preschool

offices; all staff members carry a “panic fob”, which is directly

linked to the SD Police Department; all staff members carry two

-way radios linked to our dedicated FCC frequency. We can

never be complacent and must always be prepared.

I highly recommend continuing the conversation about safety

and security at home, so that our children can be empowered to

respond appropriately and safely at any given time, in any given

place.

We continue to pray for God’s blessing and protection.
