ProphecyThe moods of one eternal thought

The seasons are to me; Bright June and dark December dusk

Are fraught with prophecy.

I read its meaning in the rose That vanishes with June;

I hear it when the autumn windsAbove the dead rose croon.

The petals of the rose unfold The message of its heart:

Love lives enduring through the years,Though beauty may depart.

–Arthur Wallace Peach

Sonnet to an Unsung SacrificeBravely the fisherwomen saw that dayTheir loved ones leave to follow Himafar; For “Straightway they forsook theirnets.” No barWas raised by love, no handoutstretched to stayThe going. But how surely bleak dismayThey knew! And when on Galilee thestarOf evening shone, came bitter tears tomarSad faces, uncaressed, lips that mustpray.

For it has been and ever will it beThat some must keep the vigil, andsome handsKnow only life’s mean tasks. No loudacclaim,No glorious fate is theirs, butpatientlyThey make their daily sacrifice, whichstandsMemorial to those unknown to fame.

✠ SUNDAY DIGEST ✠Why Do We Celebrate theBirth of John the Baptist?

The Nativity of St. John the Baptist isa sacred reminder of the fact that I needto have born in my life every day:Someone who leaps with joy before thepresence of the Lord, making me wantto serve Jesus with greater ardor andfervor;Someone to prepare the way of the Lordand to give me knowledge of salvationthrough the forgiveness of my sins;Someone who turns my attention awayfrom my distractions andpreconceptions so that I will be holdthe Lamb of God as the true desire ofmy heart;Someone who models for me that thereis no greater joy in my life than for OurLord to increase and for me todecrease, especially as regards my self-reliance, my self-assertion, and myself-importance;Someone who is a burning and shininglamp whose radiance gives light to mypath and courage to my heart, makingme want to live for others;Someone so committed to the truth thathe is willing to lay down his life for theTruth-become-flesh: witnessing to methat all true happiness comes throughself-sacrifice;Someone whose sanctity proclaims thatthere is no man born of woman greaterthan he is, but that I can share hisgreatness if I love Our Lord as he did.

In the tender compassion of ourGod, the Dawn from on high hasbroken upon us through the birth ofJohn the Baptist.

–Fr. Peter John Cameron, O.P.

Midsummer NightSt. John’s Day was always observed inCatholic England with great solemnity, and quaint customs, beginning on theEve, were connected with it, such as thegathering of tree branches to be placedover the house doors. Bonfires weregeneral; and it was customary, in towns,to keep a watch throughout the wholeof Midsummer Night. “Every citizen,”we are informed, “either went himself orsent a substitute.” They paraded thetowns in parties, “every person wearinga garland of flowers upon his head.” InLondon, during the Middle Ages, thiswatch consisted of “not less than twothousand men,” bearing cressets ortorches on the top of long poles. Noblesand even kings would come to look onat this “marching watch,” and made itquite a pageant.

–The Ave Maria, June 1919

MM ODERNISMODERNISM RREPACKAGEDEPACKAGED Ratzinger as a seminarian was bored withSaint Thomas and thought him irrelevant to the problems of the day; championedat Vatican II an anti-anti-modernist approach and favored a definition of theChurch of Christ as bigger than the Catholic Church; rejoices that Vatican II is acountersyllabus; occasionally gave Holy Communion to Protestants, such as to theProtestant Brother Roger of Taize; claims that Pope St. Pius X’s anti-Modernistmeasures were merely temporary moorings that have become obsolete; favors anecumenism condemned by Pope Pius XI's Mortalium Animos; organizes andparticipates in pan-religious meetings at Assisi; tells Jews who have rejected JesusChrist that they have a “common mission” to bring God to the world without everexhorting them to convert to Christ’s one true Church; visited a synagogue threetimes in six years (while Wojtyla went to one synagogue in his 26-year“pontificate”); and believes that Christendom–the Social Kingship of Christ–is adead system that must give way to a new pan-religious “healthy secularity.”

Also, it is now no secret that in Bishop Fellay’s 2006 meeting with BenedictXVI, the latter encouraged the Society of St. Pius X to introduce these “newthinkers” into their seminaries (though it remains to be seen if this remains acondition for the much talked about ‘regularization’ that may soon occur).

Thus, Ratzinger, de Lubac and von Balthasar may not appear to be as recklessas Hans Kung, Charles Curran or Richard McBrien, but their heads are similarlyhard-wired in modernist thought. They are merely the “conservative” branch ofModernism, spoken of by Pope Saint Pius X, that prevents the revolution fromblazing ahead too quickly, but keeps the revolution on its slow forward march.

–Catholic Family News, June 2012

This citation from Catholic Family News is a helpful short summary of just some of the manyheresies of Pope Ratzinger, with whom our Pius X brethren are looking to unite. (BishopWilliamson says within four weeks.) Do pray for them, and all those stuck in the ignoranceand superstition of the swamp of “Recognize and Resist.” May great St. Pius X aid them, theHoly Ghost enlighten them, and Our Lady keep her dear children in the safety of her Heart.

Go Straight OnAccording to Saint Clement, there isno more perfect image of the Deitythan a soul that, whether in prosperityor in adversity, always maintains itsinterior peace. Remember that herebelow, everything is passing. Nothingshould really afflict us except sin. Gostraight on. Be like the fisherman whokeeps casting his net always hoping tocatch a fish. Then allow God to do therest. He knows better than we do whatis for our good. We are only feebleinstruments in his hands.

Sunny Mexico turned out to be rainy with the start of the monsoon season. The farmers desperatelyneeded rain, but it was a not unmixed blessing for this traveler. The rain brought forth new generationsof bugs, torturers worthy of Torquemada, or Cheney, busy all night long draining blood or buzzingabout and just biting the weary seeking rest. Still, these little things, along with the traditional tummytroubles, are small enough price to pay for doing so much good. And how easy we modern missionarieshave it!

The number of Confirmations was about two hundred and thirty in these churches, accompaniedby a good number of confessions (some after many years) and Holy Communions. This is a testament to the fruitfulapostolate of the Fathers, especially Fr. Siordia, who is in his twelfth year now at Our Lord of the Expiration, andgoing about doing good as Our Lord did, healing the sick and driving out demons.

This trip was marked by a series of meetings with good priests, old and new, who expressed an interest in workingwith us. It is especially the duty of a bishop in our day to help priests, who so often find themselves alone and surroundedwith difficulties. Ah, but the good that one good priest can do! The devil knows this, and that is why he sets his cap forthem, against them. Thank you for your help, and the assistance of your prayers. The Narcos seemed quite quiet thistime, and the whole trip went “muy bien.”

Thanks be to God for a good second Fatima Rosary Procession on the 13th, with the biblical forty, Fr. Larrabee inthe lead. God reward the so many who came to make their Communion of Reparation to the Sacred Heart on the 15th.

Cats were well represented for the St. Anthony Blessing of the Animals (six), as were dogs (four) [there was a turtle, too] but worms ruled the day, Fr. McGuire reported. Julia brought hers along, and Father made a little sermon (I hadwarned him to be brief, as the dogs always start barking at the cats at these affairs) on St. Francis of Assist, the supremeanimal saint in popular estimation. He used to especially favor worms it seems, as they reminded him of a favorite quotefrom the Psalms: “I am a worm and no man.” The beautiful world of God’s creation should speak to all of us of thishumility, as do worms, as well of loyalty and devotion and so much more. As I was leaving my house today, a beautifulMonarch butterfly was visiting the Butterfly Bush by the door. I wonder if he came back with me from Mexico.

A busy summer, with much coming and going, has started here at God’s House, and I am sure at your own as well.Remember we are still in the month of the Sacred Heart. Did anyone remember the St. John’s Eve bonfire last night? He really is a very great saint, and I am happy to see Our Lord’s great friend and cousin receive due honors this morning. Thanks for helping to sing the High Masses this Summer. Now that “the living is easy,” anybody for Vespers thisafternoon? No? Well, I didn’t think so. That’s ok–I’ll see about borrowing Julia’s worm, and we’ll be humble togetheras we sing God’s praises in the empty church. (You know, if more came twice, more eventually would show up once onthe Lord’s Day, instead of “once in a while.” That’s how these things work.)

Well, have a wonderful last week of this beautiful June, and “vaya con Dios,” wherever you go, with love from HisHeart in your own.

–Bishop Dolan

✠ BISHOP’S CORNER ✠

Out of the Catholic Church none can be saved. This proposition, which highly displeases all sectarians andinfidels, is not only clearly established by the authority of Scripture, and by the perpetual and constant

belief of the Catholic Church, but it is also evident from reason itself, so that one must needs be blind who does not perceive its truth. This, however, applies only to those persons who cuipably and wilfully adhere to heresy, or schism, or infidelity, but by no means tothose who have been imbued with errors·and prejudices from their earliest years, and to whom not even a doubt occurs that they areinvolved in heresy or schism, or who, if any doubt arises in their minds, earnestly and sincerely seek after the truth; such persons weleave to the judgment of God, to whom it belongs to penetrate and search the thoughts and dispositions of hearts. For it isincompatible with the divine goodness and clemency that any one should suffer eternal torments who is not guilty of a wilfultransgression. To assert the contrary would be against the express doctrine of the Church.

“Let us hear St. Augustine: ‘We must not,’ says he, ‘class among heretics those persons who, without wilful obstinacy, maintain afalse and perverse doctrine, especially if it is not the offspring of their bold presumption, but a legacy from their deceived and mistakenparents, and who search after the truth with earnest care, being dispose to renounce their error as soon as they are apprised of it.’–Epist.43, Edit. Benedict. alias 162. A long list of other Fathers might be cited who are of the same opinion....It follows from what has beensaid that every one is bound, to the best of his power, to consider the doubvs which sometimes occur to him, and to investigate thetruth, and when he has found it, to embrace it without delay; unless he wish to live under an habitual and most grievous guilt, and,by deferring his conversion, expose himself to a manifest danger of eternal damnation.”

✠ THE CALENDAR ✠ BOOK REVIEW

In his bestselling master-piece of historical eruditionentitled, Work of HumanHands, Fr. Anthony Cekadaanalyzes a problem ignoredby so-called “traditionalCatholics.” Bugnini and thereformers, after all, begandismantling the Church’ssacred liturgy long beforethe infamous Devil’sCouncil of Vatican II. The1962 Missal was already theresult of decades ofmodernist destruction, leaving only the empty shellof what was once the true

Mass. Even the earlier 1958 Missal had already altered beyond allrecognition the most important rite of all, that of Holy Week.

One reason more and more Vatican theologians are readingFr. Cekada’s research is because it exposes something whichCatholics throughout the world are now waking up to: Theatheist-secularist religion of Vatican II exploits the 1962 Missalprecisely because it destroys the authoritative Missal of Pope St.Pius X behind the cloak of eviscerated concepts like reverence, beauty, and Latinity. Thus, the 1962 Missal is doing in our dayjust what it did in the 1960s, drawing souls away from their faithbehind the appearances of the true Mass. Catholics who have losttheir faith through the 1962 Missal ratify the mockery it makesof the true religion by attending indult services performed bypriests playing both ends against the middle (“Vatican II is evilbut we’ll pray in union with it anyway since saving a man inwhite is more important than divine and Catholic faith”).Having lost the Four Marks of the True Church (Unity,Holiness, Catholicity, and Apostolicity), Benedict’s narcolepticfollowers are content with twisted Novus Ordo buzz-words suchas “visibility,” something today’s Mormons, pagans, and atheistspossess in far greater abundance.
