Welcome to this year’s Glee Club production, Sweet Dreams. As many of you know, this has been an exceptional year for G Major. At this year’s Show Choir Canada Nationals competition in Toronto, St. George’s G Major achieved a fi rst place fi nish (non-arts large ensemble) and won an impressive six awards. Under the superb leadership of Performing Arts Department Head and Show Choir Director, Candace Grynol, and with the endless support of Technical Director, Aaron Stamboulieh, our G Major performers delivered a truly inspired performance, dazzling the audience and judges alike.

Grade 9 student, Jamie Mayers, won the overall Best Dancer award and received a 1-week scholarship to the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts. In addition, G Major won the Spirit Award, demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork and camaraderie as voted by Show Choir Canada organizers. The group was also awarded Best Vocals, Best Choreography and Best Show Design (non-arts large ensemble). Now that they have wowed the Show Choir Canada judges and audience members, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy G Major’s considerable performing talents this evening!

G Major consists of many faculty and staff members, as well as students from all fi ve high school grade levels. This special extra-curricular activity celebrates teamwork and collaboration, and is supported by energy and enthusiasm. More recently, our Glee program was expanded to include the St. George’s Elementary School with the establishment of the E Minor choir, under the direction of our talented music teacher, Evan Crandell. I am very pleased that they will be this evening’s opening act.

With so many exciting things happening at St. George’s, please allow me this opportunity to provide you with a brief summary of other accolades recently garnered by our talented and enthusiastic students. They include: an invitation to the INTEL International Science Fair, California (Alex Cohen, Grade 11); an eighth place fi nish at the Weizmann Institute’s Shalhevet Freyer Physics Tournament in Rehovat, Israel, where our team of Grade 10 & 11 students were one of 49 international teams participating; Top Speaker at the Junior Provincial Debating Tournament and advancement to the Canadian Nationals in Toronto (Rachel McKenzie, Grade 9); a bronze medal at the QAIS Chess Tournament (Alexei Lefebvre, Grade 3); and much, much more.

Thank you for your attendance this evening and for your support of our amazing programs at St. George’s. Please sit back and enjoy the show, although I suspect you won’t actually be sitting still for very long!

Sincerely,

James A. Offi cerHead of School 1993-2014

Message from the Head of School

The Jaclyn Linetsky Performing Arts Program

Performing Arts has historically been an important element of the St. George’s experience. Whether it be on stage or behind the scenes, most every St. George’s student fondly remembers not only their own curricular drama classes, but the many memorable musical and stage productions put on with acting and production talent to rival almost any amateur theatre troupe in Montreal.

The Performing Arts program at St. George’s School of Montreal is named in memory of St. George’s grad, Jaclyn Linetsky ’03, who died tragically in a car accident at the tender age of 17.

Jaclyn was 10 when she landed her fi rst major gig, a milk commercial, and she never looked back. As the voice of Caillou, Jaclyn entertained hundreds of thousands of children the world over. Amongst her many accomplishments, she was also the female lead in the television show 15/Love which aired in over 72 countries.

Jaclyn had always credited her stage work at St. George’s for giving her

career a boost. Her name on our Performing Arts program ensures that Jaclyn will always be remembered and that she will continue to be an inspiration for generations of St. George’s students.
