We do not walk alone and the Lord promises that when times are tough, hard decisions are to be made, family life challenges us or our work life is stressful, we can call on Him to be our help and guide. As Christian parents and teachers, we are called to be models of resilience and persistence for our children. The story of Zachaeus in the Gospel is a wonderful tale of not giving up. Zachaeus wanted to see Jesus so badly he even climbed a tree so Jesus would notice him. Not only did Jesus notice, he invited himself to Zachaeus’ place for tea, much to the disgust of the so-called “right people”. Resilience and persistence can reap a rich harvest. We want our pupils to experience resilience because we know it builds character. Diane Levy describes this beautifully in her book Of Course I Love You Now Go To Your Room. “There is only one way for a person – of whatever height – to feel proud of themselves. That is to struggle and overcome challenges and to discover that ‘I can!’ People with high self-esteem have a lot of ‘I cans’ in their lives.” Karen Boyes from Spectrum Education maintains that, “As a parent, you might need to let go of the perfectionist – children will make mistakes. They will not do it to your level of skill – they are still learning. Your child did not get up and walk perfectly the first time either. It took encouraging words, affirmations, praise and a helping hand.” So, as parents we may offer our children a ‘helping hand’ by extending their boundaries, creating small, or large, challenges that help them realise their potential and independence. Often challenges are not a welcome idea, they usually involve some discomfort or pressure, but the feeling of accomplishment lasts much longer than the act to get there. SCHOOL FEES AND DONATIONS Statements will be sent home shortly to those parents who have not yet made a payment. A reminder that the expectation from the Diocese of Auckland is that payments are to be made each term if a regular direct payment plan is not in place. Thank you to those parents and caregivers who have paid their school fees and those who are making regular payments. Please contact the Principal, Craig McKernan, or School Office Manager, Deborah Rudolph, if you wish to discuss any matter about payment of your child’s fees. Term 1 outstanding fees are now overdue and Term 2 fees should now be paid. Craig McKernan Principal

Tena koutou katoa. Dear Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the school,

My parents used to say to me, “If at first you don’t succeed, then try, try, try again.” This, nowadays, is often referred to as resilience! In last week’s Gospel, we heard the stories around Jesus leaving his preaching ministry in Galilee and start his approach to Jerusalem. Talk about resilience! Jesus knew what was in store for him in Jerusalem. This last trip would result in his death and resurrection, yet he journeyed on.As Christians, we believe in the strength our core beliefs give us. This may be a one-off or intermittent event. If this person does not regularly pick up your child:A) Please contact the school and advise us of this new arrangement as soon as possible.B) Please tell this person they must call into the school office and collect a pass and that you

have rung ahead to let us know. (If we haven’t heard from you we will have to verify this arrangement first before releasing your child).

PTFA NEWSEvery year the PTFA Committee has pleasure in hosting an event for parents. This year, we have decided to host a 'Mum's Pamper Evening' for our wonderful Mums. This will be held in term 3. We would like to invite any school parents, grandparents and caregivers who can offer a suitable skill or service to take part. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your business and share your talents with others. If you are interested in participating in this exciting event, please contact me for further information. Serena Ross Ph: 4356787 or 021 426917.

And to all you Mums out there – Watch. This. Space!POSITION VACANT: PTFA Secretary. If you are interested in applying for this position or would like to know more, please contact the Principal.

LOST PROPERTYAt the middle and end of term we wash all unclaimed, unnamed uniforms and put them in the second-hand collection. If you have missing clothing

items please look through the lost property before the end of next week. Named items will be returned to students and unclaimed items will be washed and placed in the second-hand uniform pool.

PLEASE name all your children’s clothes so that they may be returned to them. We are

unable to return unnamed clothes.

STUDENT SUCCESSIn May, Luke Brooke-Smith went to Medellin, Colombia, to compete in the BMX World Champs. He raced in the eight-year-old boys section coming 7th out of 62 riders. Congratulations Luke, what an amazing effort.

PTFA Sausage Sizzle Needs helpers...If you can spare just two hours of your day, twice a term, to help out with the sausage sizzle that would be wonderful. Sadly, if they don’t get helpers very

soon then the PTFA sausage sizzle will not be able to continue. The children really look forward to this treat, especially during the colder

winter months, and this is a much easier fundraiser to help with than selling chocolates or raffle tickets for example.

At present, apart from the co-ordinator, there are only two helpers and they no longer have children at our school.

They wish to leave but don’t want to let our students down. Please consider if this is a way your can support the children and contact the

office if you are interested.

Name it and

Claim it!

Room 19 from St Francis Xavier has turned their classroom into a business – 27 Innovators – to raise money for the SPCA!

They are selling bag labels, called TagYaBag, each with a unique design on the back.

What’s so special about these TagYaBag labels?

Well, you can slip your timetable into your TagYaBag so you can see what you require for the week, and then you can clip it to your bag.

But wait – it’s your lucky day, because on Tuesday July 5th and Thursday July 7th, 27 Innovators are selling their TagYaBag labels outside Room 19 so you can swing

by at lunch time or morning tea with your $4.00 and buy one of their amazing TagYaBag labels.
