Confirmation Mass
Monday, May 8th at 6 p.m.
All are invited. Reception in Xavier
Hall after Confirmation.
Christ Has Risen! He has risen and conquered
death, Alleluia! While we are comforted by
knowing that our loved ones who have died have
transitioned to New Life, we must also deal with
our own loss. We do not have to do this alone.
We are offering a time to come together to
lovingly support one another in our grief on
Wednesday, May 10th at noon in the Christian
Formation Center. For additional information, call
Ann in the Church Office.
The Solemnity of the Ascension of
the Lord will be celebrated on
Sunday, May 28, 2017.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
The Hispanic Community of Saint Francis Xavier would like to invite ALL MOTHERS to join us in a celebration honoring their special day. We will have food, gifts music and games.
Please join us, Saturday, May 13 after the 5:00 pm Mass in Xavier Hall.
World Day of Prayer for Vocations
Yesterday we had 22 young people make their First Holy Communion. On Monday
night we will have 18 of our young people confirmed by Bishop Hartmayer (all are
welcomed to attend!). While we often speak about our young people becoming
architects, doctors and lawyers we should include in the conversation a calling to the
priesthood, diaconate and religious life.
In the 149 years of our parish and 117 years of our school how many holy priests,
religious sisters and brothers and deacons have served our local community? We were
so blessed to have the Sisters of St. Joseph, including Sr. Anna, serve at the school.
Who will serve us in the future? Perhaps some of our young people will be the future
pastor of the church, religious sisters or deacons.
Vocatio is a Latin word that means a call. We all have a call on our life. God has plans
for each of us. Fr. Chris was called from Los Angeles to be a priest in the Diocese of
Savannah. The Lord called me from Augusta, GA. Let us make sure that we discuss
vocation with our young people. God has a call in their life and they will be most happy
by responding to that call.
We are blessed to have two permanent deacons who serve our parish in Deacon Larry
and Deacon Maasha. We also have two deacon candidates who are in formation: Dr.
Terry Mermann and Chris Sadowski.
Please take some time to read the bulletin on Vocations in the pews. It features Chris
Hassel who served at our church and school last year. He will be ordained on May 27 at
10:00 a.m. in the Cathedral in Savannah as a transitional deacon. God willing he will be
ordained as a priest of God in 2018. Please also note that Patrick May will also be
ordained. We have received news that Patrick will spend the coming school year with
us beginning in August! Please consider coming to the ordination and bringing your
children or grandchildren. We are sending a bus which is currently full but you can
drive to Savannah for this great event.
O God, hear my prayer and let my cry come unto Thee. Bless our Diocese of Savannah
with many vocations to the diaconate, priesthood and religious life!

Forward With Faith Update
We hope to do three million dollars of renovation on our
campus – two million at the school (which has served
our area for 117 years) and one million dollar update on
the church (which has served our area for 149 years).
The main projects at the school would be: a new roof,
new heating/air conditioning, new windows, new elec-
trical wiring, making all classrooms handicap accessible
and remodeling of the administrative offices. For the
church building we would like to add two large handicap
accessible bathrooms and a meeting space.
In our campaign we hope to raise at least 1.5 million and
then use some savings and take some loans to complete
the work. Currently we have 904,000 pledged with 26%
of the parish participating. Currently we are reaching out
to the school parents and this week we will begin reach-
ing out to our school alumni. Once we have raised the
money we will go to the Diocesan Finance Council
and the Bishop for permission to begin the work.
If you have yet to make a pledge please take some time
today to prayerfully consider a pledge over three years.
With over 400 families still to respond I am sure we can
reach our goals! May St. Francis Xavier pray for us as we
seek to continue to share Jesus with the people of
Coastal Georgia!

Please consider bringing a canned
good to mass next week. Especially
helpful are pop-top cans that
people can open without an opener.
Meats, tuna fish and peanut butter
are good protein items. Thank you
for helping those in need!

The Knights of Columbus will host a blood drive on
Sunday, May 21st from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Xavier
Hall. Please consider giving a pint of your precious gift
of life to others. Your donation will remain in the local communi-
ty. Scheduling an appointment will ensure your time is respected.

Loving Father, You sent St. Francis Xavier to preach to the
nations. You call us also to be missionaries in our own way. Help
us to build and strengthen our campus so that we may share Jesus
with the people of Coastal Georgia. Like, St. Francis Xavier, may
we be people of prayer and may we share You with those we meet.
We thank you for blessing us with a Parish and a School. May
we seek Your will to further your work. Bless us with a sense of
unity, a spirit of cooperation, and a generous heart as we face the
responsibilities and challenges of this undertaking. We believe our
goals are rooted in Your Word and in Your Work. May we nourish
each other in faith, support each other in our temporal needs, and
renew our Church in the pattern of Your own Household. Amen.
On Sunday May 14 (Mother's Day) our Portuguese
community will keep the tradition of honoring our Blessed
Mother with a procession through Hanover Square after
the 11:00 Mass. During Mass we will celebrate with some
traditional Portuguese hymns. May Our Lady of Fatima
watch over all of our mothers - living and deceased!

To be a registered member of a Parish is to
have a sense of belonging to a family. New-
comers are requested to register at the Church
Office soon after arrival, to meet the staff and
learn about your new parish. In the time of fam-
ily sickness, death or special need, parishion-
ers are asked to notify the Church office. If re-
quested, Holy Communion will be brought to
anyone desiring to receive the Eucharist but
are unable to attend Mass for serious reasons.
