SERIES INFORMATIONThis a ernoons contest will be the 27th me these two programs have squared o . Since 2005, the Terriers hold a 3-2, winning the last three contest. LAST TIME OUTThe St. Francis College mens soccer team were blanked by the # 12 Monmouth University Hawks, 4-0, at Aviator Sports Complex on October 17 from Aviator Complex.

St. Francis (4-6-2; 2-3-0 NEC) had several opportuni es in the opening minutes of the contest to score the games rst goal but those shots either sailed high over the goal or were misdirected to the right of the net.

The Hawks (9-1-2; 3-0-2 NEC) were able to capitalize on those early misfortunes as in the 17th minute; Ryan Kinne received a pass from teammate RJ Allen and was able to put a header past goalkeeper Paul Benkert to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Monmouths Ma Beverin beat Benkert to increase the Hawks lead to 2-0. Max Hamilton found Beverin in the middle of the box and Beverin was then able to direct the ball to the back right of the net. With two minutes to go before hal ime, Kinne struck again as he and Allen hooked up for the Hawks third goal of the half. The nal goal came in the 60th minute as Chase Barbieri blasted a shot past Cur s Julien a er receiving the ball o a free kick from Ryan Clark to seal the victory.

SCOUTING THE COLONIALSThe Robert Morris Colonials have undergone a complete transforma on from last season, having only won three games last season, sit in a e for the nal playo spot in the Northeast Conference standings.

Leading the way for the Colonials this season is Neil Sha er, who has posted six goals, two assists for a total of 14 points in thirteen games.

In goal, Toba Bolaji has posted a 6-5-2 record this season while stopping 69 shots on goal and only giving up 15 goals, for a 1.11 GAA.

TRIO CHOSEN TO LEAD TERRIERS IN 2010...The St. Francis College mens soccer program, which finished the 2009 season with a semi-finals appearance in the Northeast Conference Tournament, has announced that seniors Greg Baum, Nick Baum and junior Robbie Weir have been named team captains for the 2010 season, head coach Tom Giova o announced.

The Baums and Weir have been crucial to our development as a program, said Giova o. They have been through the tough times and have experienced the rewards of the teams hard-work. These three are prime examples of what it means to be a student-athlete. They are hard-working, lled with determina on and are dedicated to the program.

Not known for his scoring ability, Greg Baum had a break-out season for the Terriers. He was fourth on the team in goals scored with three goals as he appeared in 17 games.

His twin brother, Nick, enjoyed a solid season as well last season. Nick tallied two goals also in 17 games played and can be used in the back eld as a defender or as a forward to expand coach Giova os o ense.

Weir showed no signs of a sophomore jinx last season, as he improved his totals from his freshman year. The na ve of Prestwick, Scotland scored two goals and recorded two assists last season, while his ability to drive the ball deep into the opponents zone will be crucial for St. Francis as the Terriers vie for a Northeast Conference crown this season.

Head Coach Tom Giova o embarks on his fourth season as the head of the St. Francis College mens soccer program. During his rst three season, Giova o has complied an overall record of 25-19-10, a Northeast Conference regular-season record of 13-10-6 and a 0-0-1 record in the NEC tournament play.

Last season, Giova os Terriers posted their second straight double-digit win total, with a 10-6-2 overall mark, a 7-2-1 conference record en route to the # 2 seed in the Northeast Conference Tournament while ending a ten-year postseason drought for St. Francis. The Terriers opened up the season with two crushing defeats (VCU and Coastal Carolina) but rebounded nicely at the inaugural Jay Sculley Memorial Tournament, as they defeated host VMI and Liberty to win the tournament.

In his rst season at the helm, Giova o endured a rocky inaugural season, pos ng a 4-9-5 overall record and 2-5-2 in the Northeast Conference. In 2008, the second season for Giova o, his Terriers sparkled as the Terriers tallied their rst double-digit win total in a decade, nishing the season with an 11-4-3 mark and placed h in the conference standings. During that stretch, the Terriers registered a remarkable eight-match winning streak (spanning from September 15th to October 24th) and opened that season by winning the Navy Invita onal, tying host Navy and an impressive 2-1 over me victory against former Northeast Conference member UMBC (University of Maryland-Bal more County).

Prior to his promo on to head coach, Giova o served as the assistant coach of the Terriers in 2006. Amongst his responsibili es, he assisted in the recrui ng process as well help with scou ng the opposi on.

While coaching St. Francis is his primary responsibility, Giova o serves as the Director of Coaching at Met Oval Brooklyn Knights (girls division). There, he is in charge of hiring coaching sta s for the U-13 to U-20 programs, while overseeing the en re league. He currently coaches in the USSF Development Academy League for Met-Oval.

Giova o received his rst chance in coaching when he was hired as an assistant coach at Saint Peters College (Jersey City, New Jersey) from 2001-2003. He assisted in all aspects of the mens soccer program, which included recrui ng and fund raising e orts. In 2003, the Peacocks captured the Metro Atlan c Athle c Conference (MAAC) Championships while pos ng a school-high 18 wins and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Mens College Cup. This past December, his team was inducted to the schools Hall of Fame.

In 2004, Giova o was named to his second assistant coaching posi on, joining the sta at Stony Brook University. As a member of the sta , the university achieved the most wins in the schools history and capped o a stellar year by making its rst ever playo appearance. While a member of the Seawolves, he was responsible for all on- eld coaching du es, while assis ng in recrui ng, fund-raising, and game scheduling.

Giova o graduated from Iona College with a Bachelors degree in Mass Communica ons in 1997. At Iona, he was a three-year varsity le er-winner as a Gael. Upon gradua on from Iona, Giova o had the opportunity to play for the New York/New Jersey Metro Stars of the MLS (Major League Soccer). In 1998, he joined the PDLs Brooklyn Knights and in 2000, was invited to the NPSLs Bal more Blast during the pre-season.

Coach Giova o resides in New York and holds United States Soccer Federa on C License.
