Thirty-Third Sunday In Ordinary Time

The Christmas season is a most stressful time for someone who is incarcerated. A poem written by an inmate in part reads:

Here I Lay Carlos 2007 Here I lay in a steel cage, surrounded by men of all race and age. I look out my window to be greeted with stares, I yell for help but no one cares.

As we enter into the holiday season, we would like to ask for your help in showing our incarcerated sisters and brothers that some people do care.

The Office of Restorative Justice coordinates the distribution of thousands of Christmas cards each year to prisons in our Diocese. We are in need of boxes of new, unsigned Christmas cards (especially Spanish-language cards) which are then given to inmates to send home to their families.

Deadline is Thursday, December 4, 2017 in order to meet the prisons’ deadlines.

Please no cards that are, scented, or contain glitter, tassels, ribbons, plastic, pieces that can be removed or musical cards. Also no cards requesting/requiring donations to an organization.

Mail or drop off boxes of cards: Office of Restorative Justice, Diocese of San Bernardino, 1201 E. Highland Ave., San Bernardino, Ca 92404

Any questions, please call (909) 475-5472 or [email protected]

Stephen Ministry Indulgences

We all know that "indulging" in anything too much is not good for your health and certainly not for your soul. In the Catholic Church receiving or searching for "indulgences" can bring about the opposite effect. When we receive an indulgence, it is to help us atone for that sin which was mostly absorbed through confession, but it also helps clean up that sins residue. There are quite a few ways to receive Plenary or Partial indulgences through the Church: if you ask or search, you are sure to find them. Being busy living this life, a lot of people don't seem to find the time to think about the after-life. "For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night." Thessalonians 5. These are strange times we are living in, it is certainly a time to stay alert. - "Keep sober and alert because your enemy the devil is on the prowl like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, solid in your faith." 1 Peter 5:8-9

Everybody needs a little encouragement sometimes. If you would like to talk to Fr. Santos, please call the office to set an appointment. and he will get back to you as soon as possible. There are also Stephen Ministers available that are ready and willing to speak with you and or spend time in prayer with you. Remember your sin is like a droplet compared to the His mercy like the ocean. (Mother Angelica)

SHARING OUR GIFTS Autumn is the season for harvesting and sharing the fruits of our labors. This week’s scriptures use images of the harvest, family life, pregnancy, and investment to describe the abundant harvest in the reign of God. We discover that sharing the gifts we have been given brings eternal rewards for everyone. In the Gospel parable a master entrusts his possessions to three servants before going on a journey. Each is given some talents. What they do with those talents determines what the master will do with them when he returns. How about us? What are we doing with our talents? How will our Master treat us when he returns?

Questions of the Week

Question for Children: Name one talent or gift that God has given you and tell how you have used it. Question for Youth: Name three talents that you have. How can you use these talents in the next week to make someone's life better? Question for Adults: Using Jesus' parable as your starting point, describe in your own words how you are using your own gifts to enrich the reign of God.

Thirty-Third Sunday In Ordinary Time

"The Mighty One has done great things for me" (Luke 1:49) Reflection: Because of her unique role as his mother, Mary received from Jesus a full share, body and soul, in his victory over death. In the human family, which God decided to join, there can be no closer bond than mother and child. They belong together; their destinies are intertwined. That is one of the central messages of the pro-life movement. To love and care for a mother necessarily means protecting, loving, and caring for her child. Prayer: Blessed Virgin Mother, on this day of joy we honor you. Pray for us, and for the victory of life! Amen!

Amen!
