Le Château de Warsy

A smooth Ferry crossing, a beautiful château and a warm summer sun were parts of the jigsaw which ensured the Year 6 trip to France was a fantastic success. The children have enjoyed a variety of activities, dunkings in the lake, delicious food and practised their French, bartering in the markets at Mon Didier for food and souvenirs.

The children have all been fantastic and welcomed all challenges with enthusiasm and humour; the staff have enjoyed the company of every single one and they all feel a tad sad to leave the magic of Le Château de Warsy. It was an early departure this morning to the chocolate factory and Etaples Cemetery, and finally the ferry and home! I hope you have been checking the blog on our website for plenty of photos…they tell a happy tale.

Head’s Corner

We dodged the showers this week in the same way Year 6 have at Le Château! If you haven’t read about their amazing trip and viewed the photos catch up with their outdoor antics and Madame Stokes historic dunking on the website. St Faith’s has enjoyed its regular buzz with happy children enjoying many outdoor activities ranging from swimming, a trip to Quex Park, Kwik cricket and chalk drawing. The showers haven’t dampened our spirits but if they needed raising, the Reception assembly did this on Wednesday morning! Reception class seemed to have gained a new pupil ‘Duncan’ who helped them tell the story ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. Watching their amazingly polished performance, with everyone playing an important role, reminded me how our school is like the box of crayons. We have many unique characters, each with their own valuable traits, which together make a complete picture.

SPORT It was a fun-filled day playing cricket at King’s School Canterbury. Ten schools were present and all were well organised into mixed teams, each with their own coloured t-shirt that the girls were allowed to keep. Although the weather was not on our side, the girls were definitely on form! The afternoon started with a motivational viewing of England’s women’s cricket team winning the cricket World Cup followed by an actual viewing of the trophy itself! This had the girls raring to go and they were all excited to participate in the bowling and batting masterclasses. Soon after, there were two pairs cricket matches where several of the girls put what they’d learnt into action, taking wickets and batting well. The day ended with some delicious food and the opportunity to have a group photo with the

awe-inspiring cricket World Cup.

Teddy Bear Sale Last week these two girls from Year 3 ran a Teddy Sale at lunchtime and after school. The girls raised a fantastic £56.00 for the school playground appeal. The success of this event was purely down to initiative of these two girls who planned the whole event. Their extensive advertising of the event, from posters, to in-class visits and announcements in assembly meant that it was very well-supported. Thanks to all those who brought in teddies, those who bought teddies and most of all to Julie and Jasmine for taking the time to organise and run the whole event.

Well done girls – two fantastic entrepreneurs of the future!

It’s all about Science this week for Year 5

Forces, gravity and pendulums – a recipe for a very busy afternoon in Year 5. When the pupils of Year 5 (and some Year 6) were told that they would be working independently to discover whether the height that a pen-dulum is dropped from affects the time taken for it to come to a stop, there were a few nervous yet excited faces around the classroom. Working in groups, the pupils had to design their investigation by selecting and controlling the appropriate independent and dependent variables, perfect a method that would help to col-lect valid data and work as a group to analyse and discuss their results.

It is safe to say that the pupils rose to the challenge and beyond! The afternoon was full of collaboration, fantastic scientific language and discussion and most importantly investigation and discovery! Mr Andrews would have been proud!

Nursery children go bug hunting. “We’re going on a bug hunt!” The children from the Turtle room have got some new residents! To enhance the children’s understanding of the life cycle of a butterfly, they are currently looking after 5 painted lady caterpillars. Inspired by our new bug friends, they decided to go on a bug hunt in the Nursery garden! They all looked high and low using

the magnifying glasses to carefully search for the creepy crawlies. They climbed, crawled and crept around the garden and eventual-ly found some ants under a log slice in the bark area! The Turtle room children are very excited to see their real life caterpillars turn into chrysalis. So what shall we do? Pretend to be butterflies with the ribbons while we sing our ‘Tiny Caterpillar’ song!

Reception Assembly On a colourful Wednesday morning Reception children continued to tell the story of ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by transforming themselves into a box of crayons who learn to work together. As the curtains opened Year 5 were astounded to see their very own Mr Andrews playing the part of Duncan. Our assembly ended with the following poem:

We are a box of crayons, All of us unique, But when we get together, The picture is complete.
