St. Paul tells us through his letter to the Romans,

“Do not conform yourselves to this age but be trans-

formed by the renewal of your mind.” This reminds me

that I need to keep up my education in the faith. I need

to keep learning about Jesus and his Church. This mes-

sage is not just for me but for you too.

Here at SEAS we have opportunities for you all to grow

in your knowledge and love of God outside of mass for

all age levels. In the Catholic Church we call our educa-

tion “catechesis.” It’s different than regular school.

Catechesis is designed for all of us to journey with

Christ. We offer catechesis in English and Spanish most-

ly for our children and teenagers. As the school year be-

gins some will enroll in classes in preparation for their

first confession and first communion. Those who have

completed that part of the journey can enroll in ongoing

catechesis at their age level, altar server boot camp, or

whatever else we might offer this year. Many of the

teenagers will enroll in classes designed to prepare them

to receive the sacrament of confirmation next spring.

We can always learn more about God. Some of our

learning is more formal through catechesis. But whatev-

er you do follow the wisdom of St. Paul and journey with

Christ as he transforms you by the “renewal of your

mind.”

San Pablo nos dice a través de su carta a los roma-

nos: "No os conforméis a este siglo, sino que seáis transfor-

mados por la renovación de vuestra mente". Esto me recuer-

da que necesito mantener mi educación en la fe. Necesito

seguir aprendiendo acerca de Jesús y su Iglesia. Este

mensaje no es sólo para mí, sino para usted también.

Aquí en SEAS tenemos oportunidades para que todos

crezcan en su conocimiento y amor de Dios fuera de la misa

para todos los niveles de edad. En la Iglesia Católica llama-

mos a nuestra educación "catequesis". Es diferente a la

escuela regular. La catequesis está diseñada para que todos

nosotros viajemos con Cristo. Ofrecemos catequesis en

inglés y español principalmente para nuestros niños y

adolescentes. A medida que el año escolar comienza,

algunos se inscribirán en las clases en preparación para su

primera confesión y primera comunión. Aquellos que han

completado esa parte del viaje pueden inscribirse en la cate-

quesis en curso a su nivel de edad, el campamento de

entrenamiento del servidor de altar, o cualquier otra cosa

que podamos ofrecer este año. Muchos de los adolescentes

se inscribiran en clases diseñadas para prepararlos para reci-

bir el sacramento de la confirmación la próxima pri-

mavera.

Siempre podemos aprender más acerca de Dios. Algunos de

nuestros aprendizajes son más formales a través de la

catequesis. Pero todo lo que haces sigue la sabiduría de San

Pablo y el viaje con Cristo como él te transforma por la

"renovación de tu mente".

Grief Recovery Weekend

Are you, or someone you love, grieving the end of a marriage from a death or a divorce? A grief recovery

retreat for the widowed, separated and divorced will be held the weekend of October 13 -15 (Registration by

October 2 is recommended). Contact JoAnne for more information: 503-476-4796 or email her at

offered again in March 2018.

The retreat consists of presentations by Beginning Experience team members, periods for private personal

reflection and sharing in small groups. The weekend begins on Friday evening and concludes Sunday

afternoon. The cost of $195 includes lodging for 2 nights in a double room, meals and resource materials.

Special arrangement may be made for payment, and partial scholarships are available. Single rooms are

available for an additional $20.

Regret and Abortion

There are thousands of support groups across America helping women overcome the emotional toll of

abortion. However, many pro-abortion advocates still claim that women do not regret their abortions. This

flies in the face of both the facts and common sense.

But even if their claim were true, it does not make abortion defensible. The famous Nazi, Adolf Eichmann

went to his execution saying he did not regret his participation in the holocaust. Lack of regret goes to the

conscience of the person, not to the rightness or morality of the action.

If we really want to know the role regret plays in the abortion issue, we need to consider how abortion-

minded mothers later felt about the decision they made. What we would find is that for every woman who

might say that she regretted giving birth to her child; thousands would say that they regret aborting their

babies.

El arrepentimiento y el Aborto

Hay miles de grupos de apoyo a través de los Estados Unidos ayudando a las mujeres a superar la carga

emocional del aborto. Sin embargo, muchos defensores pro-aborto siguen afirmando que las mujeres no se

arrepienten de sus abortos. Esto va en contra de los hechos y el sentido común.

Pero incluso si su afirmación fuera cierta, no hace aborto defendible. El famoso nazi, Adolf Eichmann fue a
