We count ourselves lucky considering the potential damage that could have been caused. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the emergency and welfare workers, who were involved in notifying, repair works and caring for the people in our community. A thank you is also extended to the many people who noti-fied me, that they were praying for us. Thank you to the staff who helped prepare the school before the cyclone and to those who helped with the cleaning up on Monday.

Morning Tea Thank you to Mrs Kelly Gould for organising the morning tea after the Leadership assembly. We are hoping to make this a monthly occurrence to help build community at the school.

Smart TV Installation Thank you to Mr Sean Sta Maria for installing the new Smart TVs throughout the classrooms. The next step is to get IT Dynamics to ensure that all our new devices can communicate with the TVs.

National Close the Gap On Tuesday, March 19 the school held a special assembly to recognise “National Close the Gap” day. Ms Julia Dab (a local Indigenous lady) spoke to the students about this initiative and the importance of Indigenous equality in areas such as health, education and employment and so on. Thank you to Miss Lauren Greatorex for organising this assembly.

Parent Teacher Interviews A reminder that these commence the week starting April 1. Please ensure you are punctual to your meeting and keep to the allocated time scheduled. Thanks for your assistance in this. Reminder of closing date for bookings this Friday, 29 March.

Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord – March 25 The Annunciation of the Lord celebrates the Angel Gabriel's appearance to the Virgin Mary, announcing that she had been chosen to be the Mother of God. As the school was closed on this day, we were unable to celebrate with a Mass.Thank you to the Year Four class who had prepared to lead this Mass.

Colour Run and St Patrick’s Day Thank you to the P&F for organising this colourful event. All had a great time, and it proved to be an excellent fund raising event. Special thank you to Mrs Chantal Foster for coordinating the Colour Run and to those who support-ed her.

The generous donations of green cupcakes for St Patrick’s Day was also greatly appreciated and a warm thank you is extended to all who helped bake these tasty delights.

Harmony Day On Thursday, March 21 the school celebrated Harmony Day which is about celebrating Australian Multiculturalism. Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of your heritage.

St Cecilia’s Church Golden Jubilee St Cecilia’s Church will be celebrating the 50

th Anniversary of its construction on the cur-

rent site on Sutherland Street. The event will be commemorated on Sunday 28 July with a Mass and shared meal in the Undercover Area of St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School. We would like to invite as many people as possible that have been involved with St Ce-cilia’s Church. If you know anyone that has been involved in the St Cecilia’s Church com-munity in any way over the past 50 years, for example, architects, builders, priests, sis-ters, families, parishioners or parish council members, please contact Father Edward (9173 1687), Mandy Sheen (9174 7000) or Arnold Carter (0400 205 173). Additionally, we are seeking assistance from parishioners to plan and organise the cele-bration. If you have any photos that show the history of St Cecilia’s church (e.g. past celebrations, Sacraments, former priests), have stories to share, if you have any suggestions for the celebration day or if you would like to be involved in the planning committee, please contact Father Edward (St Cecilia’s – 9173 1687) or Father Janu-ary (St John the Baptist – 9172 1254).

First Holy Communion A reminder for those families with children wishing to take part in the sacrament of First Holy Communion this year – the enrolment Mass is next weekend (06/07 April). Please bring your completed enrolment form and a copy of your child’s birth certificate and First Reconciliation certificate to Mass on either Saturday night or Sun-day morning. Remember, this is a parish event not a school event so you must enrol at your local parish. When you hand your enrolment form to the priest, you will receive the first of the home tasks. Please note that home-based activities will be handed out at the weekend Masses, excluding those weekends during the school holidays. These activities are important for you and your child to work through together to involve the family in the sacrament and to reinforce the belief that the parents are the first teachers of their children. If you miss any of these activities, you will need to see your parish priest for the copies missed. Furthermore, a reminder that the first Parent Meeting will be held in the St Cecilia’s School Hall at 6.30pm Thursday, 02 May in the school hall.

Values At our last Values assembly, we explored the value of Love. Unfortunately, it has been many weeks between our Monday Values assemblies so we are looking forward to being able to discuss our next value this coming Mon-day. Please join us as we discuss the value of Kindness. We will also find out which students have been nominated by their peers to receive Values awards for demon-strating our Values through their thoughts, actions and words.

Holy Week Special Assemblies Please join us on the last day of term (Friday 12 April) for our Holy Week Processional Assembly. As with previ-ous years, we will be having one assembly beginning with Pre-Primary in the Hall at 8:45am. The Pre-Primary class will lead the Palm Sunday reflection before the assembly progresses to the Undercover Area for the Year Two Holy Thursday reflection. The assembly will then make its way up to the church for Year Three’s reflection on the Stations of the Cross and Good Friday before Year One conclude the assembly with an Easter Sunday reflec-tion. We hope you can join us us in our recognition of such a significant time of our Church’s calendar.

Caritas Project Compassion Our fundraising for Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion has begun at St Cecilia’s. Tomorrow, our Year Six Community Leaders will be visiting classrooms to collect the class money boxes and begin our graph in the dis-play board located near the Undercover Area. I would also like to thank the P&F for organising the delicious cupcakes for St Patrick ’s Day. The gold coin dona-tions for Green Dress Day and St Patricks Day cupcakes raised $283 for Project Compassion.

Harmony Day Last Thursday, 21 March, we recognised Harmony Day at school. Harmony Day is a time for all Australians to re-member and respect our diverse cultural backgrounds and to share what we have in common. Throughout the day, students took part in activities that helped them to understand the diversity we have in our school, town and coun-try. Unfortunately, our kites did not arrive in time for our whole school kite making and flying. We are hoping they ar-rive soon so that we are able to take part in this final activity.

Woolworths Earn and Learn With the end of the Disney collectable letter tiles approaching, there is a new reason to shop at Woolworths - the Woolworths Earn and Learn is back! From 01 May, for every $10 spent on groceries at Woolworths you will receive a sticker. Place these stickers on the sticker sheet sent home with your child and when it is full, bring it in to school and place it in the box in the office. These sticker sheets earn our school points that can be redeemed for items to be used in the school. Modern Teaching Aids have teamed up with Woolworth’s and the more points we earn, the more items we can purchase from MTA. Sticker sheets will be sent home with each child in the first week of Term Two. Each child will receive one sticker sheet with more available from the office as required.

We are bananas about Kindy

This Term we have been busy making new friends and discovering all the animals that live in the Rainforest. We are learning to identify our name and recognising two dimensional shapes. We learnt a song about the colours of the rainbow called ROYGBIV. Can you name the colours of the rainbow?
