“Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.” MATTHEW 10:32

Would others know that you are Catholic by the way you act and speak? Do you share your Catholic faith with others? Do you defend your Catholic faith when the situation arises or do you remain silent? Do you pray in public before meals? Pray for the strength and courage to be a joyful witness of our Catholic faith when the opportunity presents itself. Let us become the radiant light and bold witness that we are called to be!

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

My Jesus, in all the hustle and bustle of each day, we sometimes forget You are with us. Help us to see You in every situation, the joyful

and the sad. Let us feel Your presence and Your love that surrounds us at every moment of our lives. Don't ever let us lose that

feeling of oneness with You. Praise You, Jesus!

We encourage our parishioners to patronize our bulletin sponsors. It is through their generosity that our weekly bulletin comes to you at no publishing cost.

Stay with me, Lord—Prayer After Communion Written by Saint Pio of Pietrelcina

Stay with me, Lord, for it is necessary to have You present so that I do not forget You. You know how easily I abandon You. Stay with me, Lord, because I am weak and I need Your strength, that I may not fall so often. Stay with me, Lord, for You are my life, and without You, I am without meaning and hope. Stay with me, Lord, for You are my light, and without You I am in darkness. Stay with me, Lord, to show me Your will. Stay with me, Lord, so that I can hear Your voice and follow You. Stay with me, Lord, for I desire to love You ever more, and to be in Your company always. Stay with me, Lord, if You wish me to be always faithful to You. Stay with me, Lord, for as poor as my soul is, I wish it to be a place of consolation for You, a dwelling of Your love…. Stay with me, Lord, because in the darkness of this life, with all its danger, I need You. Help me to recognize You as your disciples did at the Breaking of the Bread, so that the Eucharistic Communion be the light which disperses the darkness, the power with sustains me, the unique joy of my heart… Stay with me, Lord, for I seek You alone, Your Love, Your Grace, Your Will, Your Heart, Your Spirit, because I love You and I ask for no other reward but to love You more and more, with a strong and active love. Grant that I may love You with all my heart while on earth, so that I can continue to love You perfectly throughout all eternity, dear Jesus. Amen!

Fr. Kevin 12th Sunday of the Year - Cycle A - 2020+ Jeremiah 20:10-13; Romans 5:12-15; Matthew 10:26-33

"Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our day, that by the help of your mercy,

we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ." With this familiar prayer, tucked in between the Our Father and our receiving of communion, we acknowledge our dependence on God to protect us from fear. There is no poison more crippling, no shadow as tricky as fear. Even when things are going well, it can rob us of simple enjoyment and paralyze us from taking the risks necessary to growth and daily engagement of life.

Anxiety and fear is prevalent each year as seed is planted in the ground with the hope of favorable weather and fruitful harvests. Anxiety and fear is present in this day and age of terrorism and senseless violence. Anxiety and fear is evident as schools and churches close, as towns disappear, as populations age and diminish in rural areas. This year we have experienced anxiety and fear from the Covid virus, and now from the insanity that has erupted in our nation.

And to all this Jesus says "Do not be afraid." Jesus says this from an experience of life, and a divine plan, that did not spare him suffering and death. Whatever he meant by "Do not be afraid" does not include the guarantee that we will be spared suffering or hard times. While his suffering paid the eternal price for sin, it did not remove the reality of suffering from our world. In this we can be certain, that each of us will experience suffering, hardship, and anxiety at some time in our life.

What Jesus offers us is something to help carry us through these times of uncertainty and hardship. And just what is this special gift of peace that enables us to live fully, even in difficult times, and not let fear take over our lives?

This peace is not the pie in the sky attitude like the Reggae song of a few years ago, "Don't worry. Be happy." No, Jesus' peace challenges us to enter into the full measure of human experience, including the stress that will surely come to us. It is like the story of Jesus walking on the water. When he told Peter to come to him, Peter at first stepped out of the boat into the water. But then because of anxiety and fear he began to sink. Jesus gently took him by the hand, and lifted him up, saving him from drowning. This is the peace we can have when we follow Jesus with certainty. He will lead us through times of hardship and suffering.

But following Jesus today, truly living the gospel in a world that rejects the truth, that celebrates the deadly sins, that no longer values the sanctity of every human life, will even bring us suffering and hardship from the ridicule and rejection of others.

Continued on page 5

Congratulations Fr. Kevin Boucher on celebrating 29 years on June 1st, of

Ordination to the Priesthood. We thank you for all you do for us

here at St. Cecilia’s and look forward to the vision you have for our parish.

God Bless You!

Continued from page 4

The peace that Jesus gives, encompasses every part of our life, making anything that happens meaningful, and is an invitation to grow in holiness. When we have Jesus' peace we can enter into the tragedies and challenges of life, and see God present. We can come face to face with financial ruin, with destruction of our homes and cities by natural disasters, with illness and accident, and even with death itself, and we will see God present. And his presence will give our life meaning, and we will know why these chance happenings occur in our lives.

As Jesus tells us not to be afraid, he gives us a very loving and earthly image for us. That image is so fitting on this day when we honor the gift and grace of fatherhood. For Jesus gives us the image of a father holding his child, a strong hand reaching out to touch soft hair, knowing and rejoicing in every strand, every curl; a Father who says to us, "This is my beloved child. Not a single hair on his head will be lost."

As he tells us not to be afraid, Jesus gives us another image. It is the image of a Creator God providing for the birds with a bountiful balance that gives more then enough to those who trust in the earth’s cycles and seasons.

God's all-embracing love will protect us in all of life’s challenges and difficul-ties . These images help us through life's progression of loss and gain, welcome and goodbye, joy and sadness. This peace can be with us in the whole of life, even when the child goes bald at middle age, and the sparrows fall from the sky in winter snow, enriching the earth that will once again spring forth with new life.

If we are not afraid; if we are not wracked by worry about tomorrow; then we can enjoy the intimacy God promises us today, found in the simplicity of all that happens to us in this day. Jesus said, "Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed." In other words, we are to live as children do, their joys and sorrows perfectly matching each moment. If we live unafraid, we can bask in the excitement of a new experience or insight; we can cry from the depth of our heart when we are in pain; and we can let it go as quickly as a little girl's tears who is comforted in her father's arms.

If we live each day acknowledging Jesus before our world in our own way, whispered or proclaimed from the housetop, over time we will be more like him. Better than words, our reflection of Christ will tell others that this is what life is meant to produce in all of us.

So, do not be afraid. Remember, whatever happens, God is with you, loving you toward a perfection you cannot imagine.
