St. Catherine Labouré (Zoe) was born 1806 in Fain-Les-Moutiers France, 9th of 11 children. She entered the Sisters of Charity in 1830 and took the name Catherine. In November 1830 Mary appeared to her and asked for a medal to be made (Miraculous Medal). Mary had rays coming from gems on her fingers. Those without rays symbolized graces we forget to ask for. For the next 46 years Catherine led a hidden life, and cared for old men. She died on 12/31, 1876. She was canonized in 1947. Her body is incorrupt to this day.

2019 Annual Jubilarian Mass

The annual Jubilarian Mass honor-ing couples married 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 51+ years will be held Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception .

Good Friday Collection Each year Catholics are invited to support Christianity in the Holy Land by participating in the Good Friday Col-lection. So important is this work and pastoral ministry that the Good Friday Collection is a pontifical collec-tion. This year it is scheduled for Good Friday, April, 19, 2019. The challenges for Christians living in the Holy Land are great. Because of the insecurity and violence in many areas of the Middle East, including the Holy Land, they are asking themselves if they should stay or emigrate to safer areas of the world where there are more opportuni-ties to sustain their lives and families. Many have chosen to leave, and others continue to do so, depleting the Christian faith communities there and making the need of families that remain all the more urgent. Please be as generous as your abundance allows.

Veneration of the Relics of Christ's Passion The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception invites the faithful on Good Friday, April 19, to participate in the Exposition of the Relics of the Passion in the Crypt Church from 7:00AM to 6:00PM. The relics will be displayed for veneration by the faithful throughout the day except for the hour be-tween 12 noon and 1:00PM, at which time the Stations of the Cross will be celebrated. Following the Stations, the relics will be returned for veneration until 6:00PM. The relics include a particle from the table of the Lord’s Supper, stone particles from the Garden of Gethsemane, particles of the pillar of the scourging, the purple garment worn by Jesus, a spine from the crown of thorns, stones particles from Mount Calvary, a particle of the inscription tablet, shavings of the nails or spikes, particles of the sponge and reed, particle of the seamless linen garment worn by Jesus, the lance which pierced his side, the bindings and cloths used in the burial of Jesus, stones from the Holy Sepulcher, and a particle of the True Cross. Also displayed are relics of Mary, the Mother of Jesus; her sister, Mary, wife of Clopas; Mary of Magdala; the Twelve Apos-tles; and Saint Paul. This event is open to the public and no tickets or reser-vations are required. The Basilica offers ample free parking and is conveniently located within walking distance of the Brookland-CUA Station on Metro's Red Line. Dear Brothers and Sisters: Last Saturday and Sunday I completed an Apostolic Journey to Morocco, and I thank His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the other authori-ties, for their warm welcome. Above all I thank the Lord for allowing me to take yet another step along the road of dialogue and encounter with our Muslim brothers and sisters, as a “Servant of hope” in today’s world. To serve hope in our day is to build bridges between cultures, and it was a joy and honour for me to be able to do this in the noble Kingdom of Morocco, meeting both its people and its political leaders. King Mohammed and I reiterated the essential role religions have in defending human dignity, promoting peace and justice, and in caring for creation, our common home. The question of migration was of par-ticular importance and I was able to thank the Church in Morocco for its commitment towards migrants, and to encourage those who give generous service in realizing the words of Christ: “When I was a stranger you wel-comed me” (Mt 25:35). After greeting priests, religious, consecrated men and women and the Ecumenical Council of Churches, thousands gathered for the Sunday Mass, where the parable of the prodigal son spoke to us of the beauty of God’s plan of forgiveness and reconciliation. Indeed, knowing our need of God’s mercy is vital, for only those who have been reborn and live in the Father’s embrace, can be servants of hope for our world. I greet the English-speaking pilgrims and visitors taking part in today’s Audience, especially those from England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, China, the Philippines and the United States of America. May the Lenten journey bring us to Easter with hearts purified and renewed by the grace of the Holy Spirit. Upon you and your families I invoke joy and peace in Christ our Redeemer!

Queridos hermanos y hermanas: El pasado fin de semana realicé un viaje apostólico a Marruecos, invitado por Su Majestad el rey Mohammed VI; a él y a las Autoridades marroquíes agradezco nue-vamente su acogida y colaboración. Con el lema “Servidor de la Esperanza”, pude dar otro paso en el camino del diálogo interreligioso con nuestros hermanos y hermanas musulmanes, recordando aquel encuentro entre san Francisco de Asís con el sultán al-Malik al-Kamil hace 800 años, y el viaje del Papa Juan Pablo II hace más de tres décadas. Servir la esperanza quiere decir crear puentes entre las civilizaciones y, junto con el rey Mohammed VI, reitera-mos que las religiones son esenciales para defender la dignidad humana, promover la paz y el cuidado de la creación. De forma conjunta, hicimos un llamamiento por Jerusalén, para que sea preservada como patrimonio de la humanidad y lugar de encuentro pacífico, de modo partic-ular para los fieles de las tres religiones monoteístas. El sábado visité el mausoleo de Mohammed V y rendí homenaje a su memoria como a la de Hassan II; además estuve en el Instituto de formación de los imanes y predicadores, que promueve un islam respetuoso y recha-za la violencia y el integrismo. De manera especial, presté atención a la cuestión migratoria, ofreciendo un camino a través de cuatro verbos: acoger, proteger, promover e in-tegrar.

El domingo estuvo dedicado a la comunidad cristiana. Visité el Centro Rural de Servicios Sociales, gestionado por las Hijas de la Caridad; después en la catedral de Ra-bat tuve un encuentro con sacerdotes, personas consagra-das y el Consejo ecuménico de las Iglesias. La presencia de ellos en ese país es como la sal o la levadura que puede dar sabor y hacer crecer la masa. Concluí mi visita con la celebración de la Eucaristía en la que participaron miles de personas de unas 60 naciones diferentes, siendo esta una epifanía particular del Pueblo de Dios en el cora-zón de un país islámico.

Saludo cordialmente a los peregrinos de lengua española venidos de España y de Latinoamérica. Pidamos que Di-os, el Clemente y Misericordioso —como lo invocan nuestros hermanos y hermanas musulmanes—, impulse el diálogo interreligioso y fomente los lazos de fraternidad que nos unen como hijos de un mismo Dios. Que el Señor los bendiga.

Colecta del Viernes Santo Cada año, los católicos son invitados a apoyar el cristianis-mo en Tierra Santa participando en la colecta del Viernes Santo. Tan importante es este trabajo y ministerio pastoral que la colecta de Viernes Santo es una colecta pontificia. Este año está programado para el Viernes Santo, 19 de abril de 2019. Los desafíos para los cristianos que viven en Tierra Santa son grandes. Debido a la inseguridad y la violencia en muchas áreas del Medio Oriente, incluida la Tierra Santa, se preguntan si deben quedarse o emigrar a áreas más se-guras del mundo donde hay más oportunidades de mantener sus vidas y sus familias. Muchos han optado por irse, y ot-ros continúan haciéndolo, agotando las comunidades de fe cristiana allí y haciendo que la necesidad de las familias sea aún más urgente. Por favor sea tan generoso como su abun-dancia lo permita.

REFLEXION PARA EL PROXIMO DOMINGO

El primer día después del sábado, estando todavía oscuro, fue María Magdalena al sepulcro y vio removida la piedra que lo cerraba. Echó a correr, llegó a la casa donde estaban Simón Pedro y el otro discípulo, a quien Jesús amaba, y les dijo: “Se han llevado del sepul-cro al Señor y no sabemos dónde lo habrán puesto”.

Salieron Pedro y el otro discípulo camino del sepulcro. Los dos iban corriendo juntos, pero el otro discípulo corrió más aprisa que Pedro y llegó primero al sepulcro, e inclinándose, miró los lienzos puestos en el suelo, pero no entró.

En eso llegó también Simón Pedro, que lo venía siguiendo, y entró en el sepulcro. Contempló los lienzos puestos en el suelo y el sudario, que había estado sobre la cabeza de Jesús, puesto no con los lienzos en el suelo, sino doblado en sitio aparte. Entonces entró también el otro discípulo, el que había llegado primero al sepulcro, y vio y creyó, porque hasta entonces no habían entendido las Escrituras, según las cuales Jesús debía resucitar de entre los muertos.

Reflexiona lo que Dios te dice en el Evangelio (te sugerimos leer esto que dijo el Papa) «La mañana de Pascua, advertidos por las mujeres, Pedro y Juan cor-rieron al sepulcro y lo encontraron abierto y vacío. Entonces, se acer-caron y se “inclinaron” para entrar en la tumba. Para entrar en el mis-terio hay que “inclinarse”, abajarse. Sólo quien se abaja comprende la glorificación de Jesús y puede seguirlo en su camino.

El mundo propone imponerse a toda costa, competir, hacerse valer… Pero los cristianos, por la gracia de Cristo muerto y resucitado, son los brotes de otra humanidad, en la cual tratamos de vivir al servicio de los demás, de no ser altivos, sino disponibles y respetuosos. […]

Pidamos paz y libertad para tantos hombres y mujeres sometidos a nuevas y antiguas formas de esclavitud por parte de personas y organ-izaciones criminales. Paz y libertad para las víctimas de los trafi-cantes de droga, muchas veces aliados con los poderes que deberían defender la paz y la armonía en la familia humana. E imploremos la paz para este mundo sometido a los traficantes de armas que ganan con la sangre de los hombres y las mujeres.

Y que a los marginados, los presos, los pobres y los emigrantes, tan a menudo rechazados, maltratados y desechados; a los enfermos y los que sufren; a los niños, especialmente aquellos sometidos a la violen-cia; a cuantos hoy están de luto; y a todos los hombres y mujeres de buena voluntad, llegue la voz consoladora del Señor Jesús: “Paz a vosotros”. “No temáis, he resucitado y siempre estaré con vo-sotros”.» (Homilía de S.S. Misa Annual de Jubileo Matrimonial 2019 La misa annual para celebrar a las parejas que están conmemorando 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 o mas años de matrimonio será el domingo 16 de junio del 2019 a las 2:00 pm, en la Basílica de la Inmaculada Concepción en Washington. Para

inscribirse por favor llame a la oficina parroquial o use la solicitud de inscripción ubicadas en el vestíbulo de la iglesia. Todas las parejas que desean participar tienen que entregar su inscrip-ción en la oficina parroquial antes del 26 de Abril.

Veneración de las reliquias de la pasión de Cristo. La Basílica del Santuario Nacional de la Inmaculada Concepción invita a los fieles el Viernes Santo, 19 de abril, a participar en la Exposición de las Reliquias de la Pasión en la Iglesia de la Cripta de 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Las reliquias serán exhibidas para veneración por los fieles durante todo el día, excepto la hora entre las 12 del mediodía y la 1:00 PM, momento en el cual se cele-brarán las Estaciones de la Cruz. Después de las Es-taciones, las reliquias serán devueltas para veneración hasta las 6:00 PM. Las reliquias incluyen una partícula de la mesa de la Cena del Señor, partículas de piedra del Jardín de Get-semaní, partículas de la columna de flagelación, la pren-da púrpura que usaba Jesús, una espina de la corona de espinas, partículas de piedra del Calvario, una partícula de la tableta de inscripción, virutas de clavos o espigas, partículas de esponja y caña, partícula de la prenda de lino sin costura que llevaba Jesús, la lanza que le atra-vesó el costado, las ataduras y las telas utilizadas en el entierro de Jesús, piedras del Santo Sepulcro, y una par-tícula de la Verdadera Cruz.
