If I speak in the tongues of mortals and angels but do not have love, I am a noisy gong and a clanging cymbal.

And if I have prophetic powers and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, be-lieves all things, endures all things.

Love never ends.

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

“The proof of love is in the works. Where love exists, it works great things. But when it ceases to act, it ceases to exist” (Pope St. Gregory the Great).

Love certainly has survived quite well throughout the centuries and we look for every opportunity to cele-brate love when we can. February 14th marks Valen-tine’s Day, but this year it

also marks Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten Season, one of the most important events in our

Catholic Calendar. When you sit down with your children this year to prepare for St. Valentine’s Day, en-courage them to send de-lightful messages, poems, or cards to family members, relatives and friends. Once they’ve accomplished this, encourage them to send words of appreciation throughout the whole year –

when anyone least expects it! What a wonderful way to continue teaching our children to show friendship, appreciation and love. Happy Valentine’s Day! Also, wishing you a most prayerful beginning to this season of Lent, as you

start your Lenten Journey!

Sincerely,

L. Sposato

Provincial Report Cards Parent/Teacher Conferences

The provincial report card will be directed home on Monday, February 12th. Please check your

child’s backpack for it. Parent/teacher confer-ences will be held on the evening of Tuesday, Febru-ary 13 (5:00 - 7:30 pm), and Thursday, February 15 (5:00 - 7:30 pm). On-going communication will provide information that will encourage our students to set goals for learning, help teachers to establish plans, and assist parents in sup-

porting learning at home. We look forward to meeting with you at P/T interviews, and to continue to work in partnership.

TCDSB Guidelines for Winter Conditions

It has been an unusual start to the winter this year, with sudden drops in tempera-ture wind chill, and the oc-casional winter snowstorm. In the interest of student health and school perfor-mance, the TCDSB is in support of students being outdoors during recesses whenever possible. However, students will re-main indoors during inclem-ent weather. With a focus on winter con-ditions “students will remain indoors when the tempera-ture or the temperature in conjunction with the wind speed creates a wind chill factor that could possibly lead to frostbite”. Please know that we apprise our-selves of the weather condi-tions throughout the course of the day and base our decisions for recess on con-ditions and Board guide-lines.

School Administration of Medication

You are asked to be aware that principals, teachers and support staff of the TCDSB are not permitted to adminis-ter any type of prescription medication during the school day unless we have written authorization signed by you, the parent, and the prescrib-ing physician. The forms to dispense any medication must be updated on a regular basis and are available from the school of-fice. The forms, once complet-ed, are kept on file at the school. Also, please be ad-vised that staff in TCDSB schools will not dispense non-prescription medications to students. Should you require any additional information regarding this Board protocol or if you have any questions, please contact the school or the Special Services Depart-ment at 416-222-8282, ext. 2486.

Civvies Day - February 9th and February 13th, 2018

We continue to dedicate two days each month to our schools’ Civvies Days. This is a chance for our students to dress down, and have some fun. In January, Crazy Hat Day took place. The children showed extra thought and creativity in this event. This month, our Civvies Day will be taking place on Feb-ruary 9th and February 13th, 2018. As with all Civvies Days, we are encouraging

and your continued support.

Valentine’s Day

As we approach the sacred season of Lent, we realize that Ash Wednesday falls on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2018. We will combine Shrove Tuesday celebra-tions with Valentine’s Day festivities on Tuesday Febru-ary 13, 2018, so as not to conflict with the solemn ob-servances of Ash Wednes-

day.

Celebrating Black History Month On January 25, 2018, all our students kicked off February Black History month with an interactive, live performance

from Mariposa. The performance, entitled, “African Voyages Afri-cains: We Are One With The Drum”, was per-formed by Njacko Backo, a talented percussionist, singer, storyteller, chore-ographer, songwriter and composer , who has been

performing arts. His programs for children and youth draw on parallels and differences be-tween Canadian and African family life. Our students were able to actively participate during the

performance by sing-ing, playing instru-ments, listening to wonderful stories, and celebrating our talents, and diversity. Special thanks to Mrs. Fava for organizing this event.

us an opportunity to take posi-tive steps along our life path and to grow in faith, hope and love. It is for this reason that on Ash Wednesday the priest makes the sign of the cross on our foreheads and speaks these words, “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the gos-pel.” Lent is a time for all of us to focus on follow-ing Jesus and opening

our hearts to His presence in our lives. Please take some moments in your busy day to reflect on prayer, and prepare your hearts with acts of chari-ty, fasting, repent-ance. Where are you on

your Lenten Journey?

How will you follow in

of Jesus?

Ash Wednesday Mass During the season of Lent and especially Holy Week (March 26-30, 2018), our school activ-ities will reflect the spiritual nature of these sacred days. On Wednesday February 14, our students will be starting the Lenten season with Holy Mass, celebrated by Fr. Mi-chael at St. Bruno gym at 9:15 am, and receiving distribution of ashes. Lent offers us a time of reflec-tion to see where we are on our journey with God. It offers

Chocolates, flowers, valen-tines, and red hearts, what would the month of February be without the celebration of Valentine’s Day. While the rest of the world may choose to celebrate the ideal of ro-mantic love on February 14th, TCDSB schools will be focus-ing on the virtue of LOVE as expressed in the gospels. “For God so loved the world, He gave His only son.” John 3:16

As we focus on the virtue of love at St. Bruno/St. Raymond school this month, let us re-member that love not only inspires the practice of all other virtues, it is the form and completion of all the other virtues. We will not limit our celebration of the virtue of love to February 14th alone, but demonstrate this virtue
