Dear Families and Friends,
Well done to our athletics team who competed at the Division Athletics Carnival at Bairnsdale on
Monday. The children performed very well and we now have nineteen competitors going through to the
Regional Championships in Newborough.
We have had a couple of fantastic assemblies of late with the school leaders preparing and conducting the
events. They are being very creative and it has been a joy to see the talent on show at St Brendan’s. Last
Friday, India Boag and Olivia Greer delivered their Lions Club Public Speaking Competition addresses
which were of an extremely high standard. Well done, girls!
Well done to our Year Six students who have entertained audiences with their play ‘Troy Story’ over the
last week. Their final performance is this evening at 7.30pm, if you have not yet seen it. Congratulations,
also goes to Mr B and Miss Henderson for directing the performance. A big thank you to Emma Albert
who has done a magnificent job of the costumes.
The last day of term, Thursday, 20 September begins with our Golden Honour Assembly. Following the
assembly we have the walk up to the Footbridge Rotunda for the Big Picnic. This is a free dress day and
children are asked to bring in an item for our fete lucky dip. School finishes this day at 12.55pm. On
Friday, 21 September our school staff will work with Charles Lovitt who will present about differentiating
mathematics lessons. We are looking forward to learning new strategies.
This Saturday, 15 September from 8am – 11.00am we have a Working Bee at school. If you can spare an
hour our two please come along to help maintain our school grounds. If you have a trailer, gardening

Healthy Tips – Healthy Mind Basics
It is important to find ways to express your feelings. This can help you to release built-up tensions and make better decisions. There are a number of ways you can express how you feel, including: Set aside some time for you – even it is ten minutes to take some
space for yourself.
Write about how you feel – this can be a useful way to explore your feelings. Some people keep diaries, others just write down whatever comes into their head. You may want to write a story about whatever is bothering you.
Walk away – from situations that might stress you out or make you angry.
Self-talk – change negative thought patterns to help you look at things in a more positive light.
Relaxation – is one way to focus your thoughts and consider the big picture. Is your stressful situation worth getting stressed about? Will it matter in the long run?
Play sport – sport gives you plenty of chances to yell or feel elated.
Be creative – draw or paint. Make a collage.
Use music – singing, playing or listening to music (or just shouting) can all help. Dance to music at home, or go out and dance as much as you like.

Spelling
This term we have been doing SMART spelling. We have sure learnt a lot more than we knew in the previous term thanks to Ms Thompson. On every Monday we pick our new spelling words for the week and on Friday we test each other. During the week we do activities that help us learn sounds and spelling patterns. We really enjoy doing spelling and are all grateful that we get the opportunity to do it.

This term Year 3 Red and Green made islands.
We had partners and we each made an island. Every island had to have three producers, consumers and decomposers. Everyone had to choose if their island was in the Polar Zone, the Tropical Zone or the Temperate Zone. We all had to build our own island the way we wanted it to look. All the islands look AMAZING. Everyone had heaps of fun while working together and giving each other ideas.

The last events were the relays. First were the 9/10 year old girls. They got 5th. Next were the 9/10 boys. They got 1st. The 11 year old girls got 2nd and the 11 boys got 3rd. Both 12 year old teams came 4th.
