Eucharistic Miracle

Fr. Peter of Prague, a German priest, while making his pilgrimage to Rome in 1263, celebrated Holy Mass at the Church of St. Christina in Bolsena, Italy. Influenced by the doubt and debate among theologians during that period on the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the consecrated bread and wine, Fr. Peter also had the same doubt. As if a confirmation for his doubt, while he recited the consecration prayers during the Holy Mass, blood flowed from the host onto the altar and corporal. Fr. Peter reported this to the then Pope Urban IV who had moved from Rome to Orvieto at that time. The pope assigned delegates to investigate the miracle and ordered to move the host and blood-stained corporal to Orvieto. The relics were then placed in the Cathedral of Orvieto.

Message 1. Let us acknowledge and thank the Lord who provides us with material and spiritual bread that we need daily. Without God’s support, the efforts of humans to produce food would be in vain. 2. Let us respectfully behave in the church where we have the altar representing the throne of the Almighty God and the tabernacle, where we have the real presence of Jesus in the form of consecrated bread. 3. Since we participate in the Holy Qurbana and receive the Holy Eucharist on very Sunday or even daily, they become a routine for us. We need to make sure that we participate in it with much preparation and keeping the sanctity of the sacrament. 4. Jesus did not give vision of the full moon and reveal its interpretation to the pope, bishop, Theologians like St. Thomas Aquinas, or Catholic King but only to Juliana, a humble nun. Many other apparitions and visions of Jesus and Mary were also offered to simple and humble people or children. Let us find value in humility and simplicity and believe in the Holy mysteries of God.

(Excerpt from the Catholic Diocese of Chicago, St. Thomas SyroMalabar )

The Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ Sacred Heart of Jesus/ World Day of Priests.

Jesus has given us His Body to eat and His Blood to drink so as to nourish us on our journey towards Heaven. All are called in Christ, but some are chosen to nourish His Body as priests and in the consecrated life.

Could you be among them?

St. Michael the Archangel defend us in battle; be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.

Pro-Life: “We must appreciate the dignity of life in all its seasons, even the path of the elderly in the twilight of their years, to work toward the day when every child, born and unborn, is welcomed to life and protected by law.” Gov. George W. Bush

This week at St. Bernard’s

All scheduled ministry events have been put on hold until further notice.

Please check the website ( www.StBernardScottsdale.org) for current information regarding Mass and Communion.

CONFESSIONS ARE HEARD EVERY SATURDAY 4-4:30pm.

Elementary Faith Formation News

LIFE TEEN AND EDGE All scheduled EDGE and LIFE TEEN EVENTS

have been cancelled until further notice.

We are still in Phase One of our safe return to public Mass. It is good to see so many families returning to Church on Sunday. There is still no obligation to attend Mass on Sunday, so if you are uncomfortable or sick please stay home and participate in the Live Stream Mass at 11:00am on Sunday and make a Spiritual Communion. In this phase we are still unable to have large gatherings, so of course there will be no Vacation Bible School this summer. We wish all our Faith Formation families a healthy and safe summer vacation and are hopeful that we will be able to resume classes in September or October.

Confirmation and First Communions will not resume for us until Phase Three, which may be a few months out, so we cannot set the date for that until we reach Phase Three. We will be looking at a time in the Fall for the class of 2020 and of course set a date in the Spring for 2021. We need to approach everything safely and patiently.

Information is coming out daily, so we encourage you to check the website stbernardscottsdale.org for all updated information.

You may email me at [email protected] or call me at the Parish Office Monday through Thursday. I can pick up emails when I am out of the Office, so you will get a response a lot quicker than leaving a voice mail. The Parish is using Flocknote to send out general messages, so if you are not receiving them please call the Parish Office and make sure they have your current phone number or email.

We will be in touch! Stay healthy and please remember to pray daily with your children!

God’s blessings,

Kathie
