In this passage, Jesus offers his disciples some sage advice. If a family member, friend or another acquaintance hurts you, then Jesus informs his disciples and us that that we are here to discuss the situation with that person to try to solve the problem. This can be a difficult for us, even though Jesus encourages us to do so. Sometimes, we want to stew about a problem and let it fester until we are very angry with someone else. At other times, we want to complain to our other friends or to our parents about how so-and-so hurt our feelings. We do not always want to solve our problems with others immediately. Today’s Gospel passage shows us that the right choice to make is to confront that person and sort out the problem together. Of course, Jesus recognizes that sometimes the other person will not want to listen to you or will not want to solve the problem between the two of you. In this case, Jesus encourages us to enlist the help of others to enlist the help of others to help work out the problem as well. As the adage goes, “Two heads are better than one.” We often need the help of others we trust and depend on to sort through difficult relationships and experiences. One of the most beautiful gifts of our faith is the importance and emphasis on community. We must always remember that we are never alone. Relying on others is essential in our faith journey, and Jesus reminds his disciples that being reliant on others can help heal wounds and solve problems as well. The notion of community continues in the passage when Jesus reminds his disciples that God is present when people come together in the name of Christ. Jesus is present each time we gather together in his name, no matter where we are, be it at home, in school, on the bus—the possibilities are endless! Sometimes we think that we must be doing extraordinary things to experience Jesus in our midst, but Jesus reminds us that he is present in our simple everyday experiences as well. If we look closely at the Gospel accounts, we see that Jesus meets people where they are, from fishing to climbing a tree. Jesus also meets us where we are in our process of forgiveness, with ourselves and with others. Even when we confront others by ourselves, we bring with us the knowledge of Jesus’ love and mercy. The Holy Spirit is present in our lives, guiding our words and actions.

Every Saturday up to and including Saturday, September 27th, the 9:00am Mass will be The Liturgy of the Word. It will be celebrated
by either Deacon Frank or Deacon Chris. There will be Distribution of Holy Communion.
Celebration Of Mass ♦ Masks must be worn in Church.
♦ Please maintain social distancing. (6 feet)
♦ Purell is available in the vestibule of Church.
♦ Mass is limited to 25% capacity (about 120-140 people).
♦ Families from the same household may sit next to each other.
♦ Offertory baskets will be placed in the sanctu-ary on either side of the altar and in the back of church by the double doors. You may put all your first and second collection envelopes and offerings in any of the baskets.
♦ There is not to be any gathering in the vestibule before or after Mass.
♦ Please feel free to ask if you have any questions or concerns.
♦ The Church will be sanitized twice a week, on Friday and Monday, before and after weekend Masses.
Receiving Communion ♦ The communicant should come before the minister of Communion with their mask on for the dialogue (“The Body of Christ, Amen”) and then, moving to the side, lower the mask and con-sume the Eucharist and replace their mask.
♦ The Precious Blood WILL NOT be distributed.
♦ Parishioners will come for Communion observ-ing at least 6 feet of distance between them as they approach. The floor has markings on it.
♦ IT IS VERY STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT PARISHIONERS RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION IN THE HAND. This is for the safety of the parish-ioner receiving Holy Communion and the minister of Holy Communion. If a parishioner wishes to receive on the tongue they should come forward at the end of the Communion line so they are the last ones receiving so that the Communion minis-ters can disinfect their hands if need be after each person receives.
