Today we hear the Gospel story of the woman at the well. Traditionally this Gospel has been part of the Lenten readings as a preparation for the cele-bration of the faith in the Risen Lord. This Gospel is read to prepare those who will receive the Easter Sacraments of Initiation and will become part of the faith community. Through Baptism, the new believ-ers will be welcomed into the community of believ-ers. They will proclaim their faith and begin to live as full members of the church community. This reading speaks to those about to be received into the church. It proclaims a message about the role of the life-giving waters of Baptism and gift of faith. It also should speak to all of us who already are be-lievers. It is a challenge for us to realize the gift which faith is. This wonderful drama, the first of three we will hear the next few weeks, is really a drama about our lives. We thirst for God. Some-times we drink Him in, many times we ignore Him. Sometimes we downright reject Him. But He doesn’t give up on us. Perhaps we finally give in and let Him transform our lives. We confront our sins, take re-sponsibility for our actions, and allow the compas-sion of the Lord into our lives. Then we have that joy that pours out from us to everyone around us. It is part of the human condition to thirst for God. St. Au-gustine wrote, “Our hearts are made for you, O God, and can not rest until they rest in you.” We will al-ways thirst for a greater presence of God. We seek His Presence throughout our lives, particularly in the love of others, in the love of our families, in the love of those reaching out to us for help. I have been asked , “How do I bring Jesus to the school, to the workplace, to my family, to the neighborhood?” If we focus on God’s Presence in our lives, if we recog-nize the mercy, forgiveness and compassion we have received, others will experience Him within us. There is a famous Latin expression, “Nemo dat quo non habat.” It means, “No one gives what he does not have.” We cannot bring God to others if we do not have Him ourselves. Jesus has given us mercy and compassion. Jesus has transformed our lives. Like the woman at the well, we live in the joy of the Lord. We drink the living water and thirst no more.

Each year St. Dominic R.C. Church joins with the Diocese of Brooklyn to conduct the Annual Catholic Appeal, which supports Catholic programs throughout Brooklyn and Queens and effects the lives of countless individuals and families living in our neighborhoods. The goal of the Annual Catholic Appeal is to raise a minimum of $8 million to provide programs and ministries throughout the Diocese and support the local efforts of parishes like ours. WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF THE Annual Catholic Appeal? The Lord calls us all to care for one another and the Church. It is up to us to foster faith and do good works in the ways we know how. Those who are hungry, without shelter, without access to Catholic education, men discerning the priesthood and those who are ill and dying are just a few of the groups who depend upon our generosity to the Annual Catholic Appeal. Your gift to the Appeal is a response in love to serve our neighbors by funding the ministries of the Diocese of Brooklyn that cannot be supported by any one parish alone but benefit all parishes in our Diocese. You can answer the call of Jesus who asks us to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, visit the sick and imprisoned, honor our mother and father, celebrate the Eucharist and educate and make disciples of all nations through your donation to the 2020 Annual Catholic Appeal. Why is my participation important? St. Dominic R.C. Church has always counted on the broad-based support of its parishioners to accomplish its fundraising objectives, particularly for the weekly offertory. This appeal also needs that broad-based support. All households are asked to consider a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal (over and above their continued annual support of the parish in the weekly collection) over the next ten (10) months. WHAT IS NEXT FOR THE Annual Catholic Appeal AND HOW CAN WE HELP? In the coming weeks, every family will be invited to participate in this appeal and prayerfully consider a pledge. Please join with us to respond to those in Brooklyn and Queens who are in need and support the important work of our Church through a pledge to the Annual Catholic Appeal today. Thank you and God bless you.

How Will our Parish Benefit?

The goal at St. Dominic

Parish is $24,256.00

Once we exceed our goal, we will then receive 100% of all

funds raised above this figure directly back to our parish.

Answer the Call to:

feed the hungry, support youth ministry, welcome the stranger,

visit the sick and imprisoned, honor our elders,

celebrate the Eucharist and educate and make

disciples of all nations!
