SAN POLICARPO (c. 60-155)

“Changing Habits” A Lenten Day with
Sister Canice and Sister Pam
Jesus calls all of us to new life and to grow in love and holiness. That means that we become more virtuous- that is, develop good habits- while we work on getting rid of bad habits. On Tuesday, March 3 we will reflect on these habits. This Day of Reflection will be held at Hampton Hall from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with lunch at 12:00 noon. The lunch will be 3 courses- salad, entrée and dessert. The entrée choices are chicken with fruit salsa or zucchini noodle primavera. Cost for the day is $30.
Please make your check payable to St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church with your entrée choice on the memo line.
Mail your reservation to Anne Camerieri
279 Oleander Way Hardeeville SC 29927.
LENTEN DIETARY REGULATIONS
Current laws of the Catholic Church regarding fast and abstinence during the season of Lent are as follows: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast. On days of fast, one full meal is allowed. Two lesser meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, however together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted. Catholics who have completed their 18th year are bound by this law until the begin-ning of their 60th year. Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent are also days of absti-nence. On days of abstinence, meats should not be taken at any meal. The law of abstinence binds ALL Catholics who have completed their 14th year. In addition to the few days on which a strict fast must be kept, there is a spirituality of fasting that permeates these forty days. Our “fast” can include acts of self-sacrifice and refraining from frivolous activities, so as to make room for prayer and works of charity, which are the fabric of the Lenten season.
To learn about JPII and to apply for the 2020-2021 school year visit www.johnpaul2school.org. For Shadow Days (every Friday until March 15) and/or Private Tours call the JPII Front Office at (843) 645-3838 to make a reservation. Space is limited, so please get your student’s application in by March 15. JPII Hosts 1st Robotics Tournament and is Crowned Tournament Champs! John Paul II hosted its first VEX robotics tournament in January. JPII's Team 61317A was the tournament champions earning an invitation to the Create U.S. Open Robotics Championship in Council Bluffs, Iowa in April. The team’s driver, Jacob Krebs, also scored 60 points during the skills competition winning the Robot Skills Champion Award - this score is currently the highest skills score in the state. JPII's all girls team, 61317B, and middle school team, 61317C, did very well placing 20th and 15th respec-tively after qualifying matches. Team 61317A’s next competition will be the 2020 South Carolina VRC HS State Championship on March 14. According to John McCarthy, JPII principal, the tournament impressed many of our visitors. "One parent from another Lowcountry private school introduced herself to me, said she had been going to robotics tourna-ments for years with her sons and that this was the best run and most organized she had been to," he said. "The event was a huge success," said robotics moderator Cadra Rooney. "We received compliments from the many teams in attendance from all over the state. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time and talents to such an incredible effort!" Well done, JPII Robotics!!
