Prayers for Our Military Troops

Perhaps you, too, love a service member. Or maybe, because you’ve served in the past or know someone

who has, you understand the sacrifices these men and women make to guard our safety and preserve our freedom. We invite you to join us as we pray for

the men and women who serve.

Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy.

Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the

power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever

praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

the traditional homage to the patron saint of

Italy. Many centuries ago a great drought caused famine in southern Italy, the people in Sicily were starving. They prayed to St. Joseph, guardian of the Holy Family, and promised to honor him with a great feast. The rains came and

the crops grew. Every year “La Tavola” di San Guiseppe” is created to honor the Holy Family and to serve food to the poor. The ICF will be giving

Parish Registration Question:

Why is it so important that we register in a parish? Isn't it good enough that we go to Mass?

Answer: Registration is the official way we join a

parish community. Many people think that because they attend a particular parish they automatically belong. At times, young adults who have moved

away for years think they are still signed up under their parents. But membership requires signing up, formally enrolling yourself in a parish. Registration

is a commitment to a community, a way to be included in the religious, social, and

ministerial activities of your parish. Your registration affects the parish in many ways. Census

numbers can determine how many priests are assigned to a church, what benefits and obligations the community has to the diocese, and how Masses,

Confessions, and devotions are planned and scheduled. Registration shows you belong. It is also

necessary for certain benefits, like scheduling sacraments, obtaining sponsor certificates, and

getting donation statements for taxes. Most importantly, it lets the parish count on you, to call on you to assist in its mission. Registering in your parish is a statement of faith and confidence in the life and

work of your parish. ©LPi

Legion of Mary

If you are unable to become an active Legion of Mary

member, but would like to become an “Auxiliary”

Member which does not require you to attend meetings or do

works. The Duties of an Auxiliary Member are:

the daily recitation of the Rosary and the daily +96—recitation of the prayers contained in the Legion

prayer leaflet called the “Tessera”. An Auxiliary member shares in all the prayers and works of the

thousands of active members throughout the world. Auxiliary members also gain all the indulgences

attached to the saying of the Rosary and also to the aspirations and prayers included in the Tessera.

If you are interested in becoming an Auxiliary or would like more information, please call Katie Adamus at 951-255-2289. If I am unavailable when you call, please leave your name and telephone number and

I promise to get back to you.

“Turn our hearts, O God…

This beautiful prayer will be sung from our hearts as begin our Eucharistic celebrations each week during Lent. Perhaps the traditional Lenten practices – prayer, fasting and almsgiving – can help us “turn our hearts”, more intentionally, to the Lord during these forty days.

Below are a few ideas to get us started!

♦ Our Church environment had been prepared in a way that helps us focus on the cross and the altar; which are at the heart of our Catholic Faith, and also on the font which leads us to Easter joy and resurrection hope! The presence of empty pots, bare branches and open hearts show us the need for the mercy, love and hope that is found in God alone!

♦ Come join our community each Friday evening at 6:30 pm as different ministries from our parish lead The Stations of Cross. A very special presentation of “The Passion of Christ “ will be presented on Friday April 3rd at 7:00 pm.

♦ Plan to attend weekday, morning Mass, or our 6:30pm, Wednesday, evening Masses, offered March 4, 11,18,25, and April 1st. Another opportunity for blessing, lies in our First Friday 24 hour adoration! During Lent this will take place on Friday, March 6th and Friday, April 3rd.

PENANCE SERVICE

♦ On Monday, March 9th, at 7:00 pm, we will offer the beautiful Sacrament of Reconciliation! Many priests will be present to hear our confessions and offer the grace and forgiveness of our loving God! That evening we will receive “wooden, pocket hearts” as a reminder of the grace of God and of our Lenten theme, “Turn our Hearts, O God.”

♦ Finally, Did you know that the Triduum is the

hearts of our Church Year! Triduum means “Three Days” but is actually one extended cele-bration, beginning on Holy Thursday, continu-ing into Good Friday and culminating with the Easter Vigil Mass. During these three days we walk with Jesus through the last days of his earthly life and rejoice in his resurrection! Those from our community who have been preparing

to be baptized and received fully into our faith community want and need our pres-ence with them at these most Holy and sa-cred celebrations. It is our role to rejoice with them and welcome them! What a beautiful witness to them and their fami-lies to experience how our parish commu-nity loves and embraces them! ♦ Easter Sunday is the Icing on the cake and a day when so many come to us look-ing for the love and welcome of God. This happens as each one of us become the heart and presence of God to all. May Gods love and mercy “Turn our Hearts” as we journey together this Lenten season!

GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE

Psychology has taught us a great deal about family dynamics and how we have come to be the person we

find ourselves to be. We are comprised of such a mixed bag of blessings and obstacles with their graced moments

and sinful ones. Think back on the journey of your life and how the many different and varied choices that you made influenced the direction your life. If you didn’t go on that first date with your spouse, who would be beside

you today? If you chose to be in one place rather than another, what would have happened to the course your

life has taken? We are on such a wonderful, exciting journey. What is most incredible and awesome is that we

are not alone! God is with us. He inspires, heals, opens doors, and calls us every moment of our lives. The very

life we have is due only to Him.

We can all sit down and list adjectives describing who we are. One may find him or herself more artistic than another or quicker with wit. We have unique gifts and

talents and have the great gift of free will, which we treasure. Our histories come with more baggage for some

and less hurdles for others, but we all have to find our way through the path we are on. However, have you ever given much thought to who you really are? That question

has more merit than may at first appear. We know ourselves as we live out our earthly journey. But do we

know our heavenly self? What we know here is only one small part of who God has made us to be. The disciples really thought they knew Jesus until they went up the

mountain. We also may think we know our true selves, too. We know that in eternal life we shall not only see

God, but become like Him. Who will you be? What surprise do you think God has for you? ©LPi

—Miguel Arias, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

CAMBIO

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

MASS TRANSIT March 8, 2020

2nd Sunday in Lent Genesis 12:1-4a • 2 Timothy 1:8b-10 • Matthew 17:1-9 “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well

pleased, listen to him.” -Matt. 17:5 During the Transfiguration, Jesus reveals his true glory to his closest friends. Similar to his baptism in the Jordan, the Father speaks from heaven to announce that Jesus is his “beloved Son.” Like a proud parent, God the Father is telling us that he is delighted by his son. He also tells us to “listen to him,” so we can follow Jesus and live how he

lived: paying attention to the poor and the outcast, fighting for what is right, and bringing comfort to those who are hurting. If we listen to

Jesus and follow him our hearts will get bigger and we will grow into everything God

wants us to be.

Dear Lord, help us to walk in Jesus’ footsteps, and to listen to him. Give us courage to

follow him wherever he leads us!

How can you improve your listening skills, to better hear God’s voice? temptation?

CRS RICE BOWL… ENCOUNTER LENT :

Join our faith community—and nearly 14,000 Catholic communities across the United States—in a life-changing

Lenten journey of encounter with CRS Rice Bowl. Pick up your

family’s CRS Rice Bowl from in the vestibule after Mass. During the 40 days of Lent, as companions

on the journey, we will encounter our neighbor.

MEATLESS MEALS TO PREPARE THIS LENT? Fasting from meat on Fridays during Lent helps us “acquire a mastery over our instincts and freedom of heart. ”(CCC 2043). Fasting is meant to free us. It helps us feel our physical hunger, and in turn, our spiritual hunger for the infinite love found only in God.

Gather your community, your friends or your family for a simple, meatless meal, an opportunity to eat while living in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world.

When you’ve cleaned your plate, remember to put the money you saved by not buying meat – an average of $3 per person per meal – into your CRS Rice Bowl to feed our brothers and sisters in need around the world.

Raise a player for God’s team Playing on a baseball or soccer team, for example, may teach children how to be good soccer or baseball team players, but few adults still play baseball or soccer. Children need life-team skills that are best taught in the family. Team players work for a common goal. One way to teach this

is to give children chores and let them know that their contribution is important and necessary to the wellbeing of the family. Team players obey the rules. Build these skills by setting family rules for behavior and performance, and enforcing them. Team players follow instructions. Give children age-appropriate instructions for doing homework, helping around the house, or working on extra projects to help. Team players share resources. Cheerfully sharing common resources like those in the kitchen or bathroom, for example, help youngsters learn planning and cooperation. Team players do their part. Skilled team players know that teams work best when everyone plays their part. After all, the most important team is God’s team where everyone works together to win.

Feasts and Celebrations March 12 – St. Seraphina (1253): Born to a

poor family in San Gimignano, Italy, she suffered from a mysterious paralyzing

illness. Once beautiful, she was disfigured and in

constant pain. Abandoned, she found comfort in the

sufferings of Jesus crucified and in the prayers of St.

Gregory the Great. She bore her sufferings with extraordinary

patience until her death.
