NEWS & PAST EVENTS

英GoKoriyama – February 2017

Opening New Playgrounds

Following the opening of the Otsuki Playground in November 2016, as of Saturday

the 4th of February, Koriyama City now has two more large outdoor playgrounds:

the Children’s Playground at Oyasuba Park and the Yatsuyamada Children’s Park.

Both playgrounds were officially opened on Saturday the 4th of February. The

playgrounds are very spacious, colorful and stimulating, with the aim of being a

place for kids to be physically active, as well as creative.

The Children’s Playground at Oyasuba Park has a jungle gym and a large sandbox

which is great for the development of the kids’ imagination and creativity. The

Yatsuyamada Children’s Park’s biggest attractions are the climbing net and the slide.

It also offers a place to go even on rainy days, with its indoor experience and learning

facility, opened every Monday from 9am to 5pm.

Uneme Fireworks Festival On the 7th of January, the Katahira Fureai Center in

Katahira Town on the west-side of Koriyama was the

stage for the annual ‘Uneme-No-Sato Fireworks

Festival.’ The fireworks started after a smashing

performance by the Uneme Daiko Hozonkai, one of

Koriyama’s major Taiko (Japanese traditional

percussion)-groups. The grand and colorful displays of

fireworks in the clear winter’s night sky drew a great

reaction from the crowd and made for a magical evening.

New Highway Bus Line for Narita Airport Two bus operators Aizu Bus and Chibakotsu have joined hands

for a new highway bus line between Aizu-Wakamatsu and

Narita Airport, passing through Koriyama City and stopping at

Koriyama Station. The line is aimed at international visitors for

the ski resorts at Inawashiro, and is available every week from

Friday to Monday during the winter season and can make the

commute between Koriyama and Narita Airport much more

convenient as well. For information and reservations, visit

www.aizubus.com/highway/narita-airport/ (JP).
